Thymoquinone (TQ) is the major constituent of Nigella sativa and known to possess a variety of pharmacological effects. This study was designed to evaluate the pharmacokinetic profile of TQ following oral (PO) and intravenous (IV) administration in layer chickens. The layer chickens were equally divided into two groups (six chickens in each group, total 12 chickens), and TQ was administered via PO and IV routes. For PO route, the dose was 20 mg/kg b.w. and for IV route, 5 mg/kg b.w. was administered, respectively. A sensitive and accurate High‐Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) technique was validated for the quantification of TQ from plasma. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) were 0.02 µg/ml and 0.05 µg/ml, respectively with >80% recovery. Maximum plasma concentration (Cmax) following PO and IV administration was 8.805 and 4.497 µg/ml, respectively, while time to reach at maximum concentration (Tmax) was 1 and 0.1 hr, respectively. The elimination half‐lives were recorded as 1.02 and 0.978 hr, whereas the mean residence times were 1.79 and 1.036 hr following both PO and IV administration, respectively. The 85% PO bioavailability was indicative that TQ could be used for various therapeutic purposes in layer chickens.  相似文献

A study was conducted to determine the effect of macronutrients (NPK) in alleviating the adverse effects of simulated acid rain (SAR) on sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.). In addition to control (T0), three different treatments, i.e., SAR (HNO3) of pH 3 (T1), NPK (T2), and SAR + NPK (T3), were applied on two sunflower cultivars, i.e., FH-37 and FH-385. The experiment was set up in CRD (completely randomized design) with four replicates of each treatment. Chlorophyll a, b, total chlorophyll, carotenoids, ion contents (NPK), and gas exchange characters were determined. Acid rain remarkably reduced the chlorophyll pigments, NPK ionic content, photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, and stomatal conductance, while an increase in internal CO2 concentration and water use efficiency was noted in both the cultivars. The mixture of NPK with SAR exhibited positive impact to lessen the toxicity caused by acid. Among cultivars, FH-385 showed better performance as compared to FH-37.  相似文献

Animal rearing is the major occupation of most population of South Asian countries. Due to lack of resources and limited approach to modern medicine, most of the livestock raisers prefer to use plant-based traditional medicine also referred to as ethnoveterinary medicine (EVM). Indeed, the use of medicinal plants in South Asia dates back to several centuries with documented evidences. However, there is currently a dearth of documentation and compilation of use of medicinal plants for animal diseases in this part of the world. This review aims to provide an up-to-date compilation of common medicinal plants used for the treatment and/or management of common animal diseases in South Asian countries. Extensive literature search was conducted online and relevant data was retrieved from well-known scientific databases. A total of 276 plants belonging to 95 families have been documented to be in common use for managing 14 different categories of animal diseases. Solanaceae, Lamiaceae, Fabaceae, and Leguminosae were most common plant families in terms of their plant species used for EVM. Gastric diseases were commonly reported and accounted for 72 species of plants used for its treatment followed by the miscellaneous disorders category and skin diseases comprising of 65 and 39 plant species respectively. Herbs accounted for 46% of the total plant species, followed by trees (33%), and shrubs (18%). The EVM were applied through different routes of administration; oral administration accounted for 72% followed by topical application 27%, while burning of plant parts to create smoke around animals to repel insects was less common (1%). It is anticipated that the present review will stimulate further ethnoveterinary research among livestock disease management practices in South Asia.  相似文献

North American isolates of Colletotrichum coccodes, representing six vegetative compatibility groups (NA-VCG), were used to study morphological and pathogenic variability. The objective was to determine if variability in conidial and microsclerotial size was related to pathogenicity. Significant differences were detected in length, width, and length/width ratios of conidia as well as in the length and width of microsclerotia among the NA-VCGs. The longest and widest conidia were produced by isolates belonging to NA-VCG1 and the largest microsclerotia were produced by isolates of NA-VCG2. Conidial and microsclerotial lengths and widths also were affected significantly by type of growth medium. There was no relationship between the size of conidia and the size of microsclerotia among the NA-VCGs studied. Conidial and microsclerotial size may affect inoculum potential and survival as isolates of NA-VCG2 have been demonstrated to occur more frequently than other NA-VCGs. Aggressiveness of 17 isolates of C. coccodes representing six NA-VCG's was studied on three potato cultivars using foliar and root inoculation methods. C. coccodes infection reduced tuber weight in all cultivars with both inoculation methods although tuber weight reductions were significantly higher following root inoculations than foliar inoculations. Pathogenic aggressiveness varied among NA-VCGs. Isolates belonging to NA-VCG2 and 3 were the least aggressive on potato foliage and isolates of NA-VCG1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 produced higher microsclerotial density on all three cultivars compared with isolates of NA-VCG6. Across inoculation methods, isolates of C. coccodes belonging to NA-VCG2 and 6 were the most aggressive based on reductions in tuber weight. Umatilla Russet was the most susceptible cultivar to C. coccodes compared to other cultivars regardless of inoculation method. These results demonstrate variability in morphology and pathogenic aggressiveness among the NA-VCGs of C. coccodes but these traits are not related.  相似文献

Gladiolus corms were grown in media contaminated with cadmium (Cd) (50 mg kg?1) and supplemented with silicon (Si) and potassium (K). The role of Si and K for mitigation of Cd toxicity was evaluated. Cd-induced stress generated significantly increased level of oxidative stress markers including hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and malondialdehyde (MDA) in gladiolus. The application of K and Si improved the production of protein and proline in the treated plants. Moreover, K and Si supplemented plants exhibited an improvement in the activity of antioxidant enzymes and a reduction in the level of MDA, H2O2 and Cd uptake under Cd stress. Application of K and Si also enhanced the uptake of mineral nutrients including calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), manganese (Mn), sulfur (S) and K. The plants supplemented with K and Si exhibited a higher amount of total phenolics and flavonoids. The combined effect of Si and K was more pronounced regarding beneficial effects on gladiolus plants compared to individual effect of these elements under Cd stress. The current research reveals that Si and K may improve gladiolus growth by decreasing the oxidative stress and Cd uptake and by increasing the activity of antioxidant defense enzymes, the quantity of secondary metabolites and plant nutrition.  相似文献

One month old rice calli were exposed to 0, 50, and 100 mol m?3 sodium chloride (NaCl) in the liquid LS basal medium supplemented with 2.5 mg L?1 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D) and 0.5 mg L?1 kinetin. Callus relative growth rate (RGR; fresh) of both cultivars indicated a progressive decrease; however, callus dry weight increased as the NaCl level increased in the culture medium. Salinity stress increased the callus sodium (Na+), manganese (Mn2+), and magnesium (Mg2+) contents while potassium (K+), calcium (Ca2+), and iron (Fe2+) contents decreased. ‘Basmati-385’ showed less reduction in callus RGR, K+, and Ca2+ contents and a larger increase in callus dry weight, Na+, Mn2+, and Mg2+ contents as compared to ‘Basmati-Karnal’. However, the reverse was true for Fe2+ contents. K+/Na+ and Ca2+/Na+ ratios generally decreased under salt stress. Overall, reduction in callus relative growth rate was found to be inversely correlated with decrease in K+, Ca2+, and Fe2+ uptake and directly correlated with increased Na+ and Mg2+ concentration in callus tissue.  相似文献

Spinach (Spinacea oleracea L. cv. ‘Banarasi’), known to be responsive to potentially toxic elements, was investigated for chromium (Cr6 +) effect on iron metabolism and water relations. After 40 days growth in sand culture, a set of plants was supplied with 100 and 400 μM Cr6 + (potassium dichromate, K2Cr2O7), superimposed over the complete nutrient solution (control). Excess Cr6 + produced visual symptoms of toxicity and increased accumulation of Cr, more in roots than in leaves. Decreased concentration of chlorophylls and the activities of heme enzymes, catalase and peroxidase in excess Cr6 + may suggest interference of Cr in iron metabolism of plants. These changes associated with decrease in iron (Fe) accumulation in Cr6 + treated plants, indicate that by reducing absorption of Fe, Cr6 + impairs the Fe requiring steps of chlorophyll and heme biosynthesis. In spite of lower water saturation deficit, the leaves of Cr6 + treated plants showed a decrease in leaf water potential, associated with increase in diffusive resistance and lowering of transpiration rate along with proline accumulation indicates water stress. The changes observed in water stress parameters in Cr6 + treated plants indicate that excess supply of Cr6 + reduces the physiological availability of water.  相似文献
