To understand better the chemical characteristics and source of dissolved organic matter (DOM) leached from the plow layer of rice paddies, a lysimeter study was conducted, which simulated submerged paddy topsoil during rice growth. The fulvic acid (FA) fraction in the percolation water from the lysimeter was collected by adsorption onto insoluble polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and the temporal variations in its elemental composition, molecular size distribution, IR spectra, 13C CPMAS NMR spectra, and δ13C values were investigated. The proportion of the FA fraction to bulk DOM varied greatly, but the chemical characteristics of the FA fraction did not change appreciably during the experimental period. Thus, it is considered that the changes in the DOM composition in percolation water were mainly due to the differing contributions of the FA fraction. Further, to investigate the source of the FA fraction in the leachate, the chemical characteristics of the FA fraction in the leachate were compared with those extracted from the plow layer soil. A sequential extraction of the FA fraction was conducted using a sequence of water, 0.25 M Na2SO4, 0.1 M Na4P2O7 (pH 7.0), 0.1 M Na4P2O7 (pH 10.5), and NaBH4+0.1 M Na4P2O7 (pH 10.5). It was found that the water- and 0.25 M Na2SO4-extractable fractions, which were most mobile, were not the only source of the FA fraction in the leachate. The small molecular size sub-fraction of the NaBH4+0.1 M Na4P2O7 (pH 10.5)-extractable FAs, most of which are probably bound mainly to iron oxides, are considered to be another source of the FA fraction leached from the plow layer of paddy fields.  相似文献

Human disturbance of tropical rainforests may change pollinator communities indirectly as a result of changes in resource availability. We studied the mechanisms by which human disturbance affects a community of major pollinators, stingless bees, in Sarawak, Malaysia. We surveyed forest structure and flowering activity, and conducted a nest census and a bait-trap survey of stingless bees, both in primary forests and in forests disturbed by logging and shifting cultivation. The densities of late successional trees and large trees (diameter at breast height >50 cm) were higher in the primary forests than in the disturbed forests. The density of flowering trees was lower one year after logging, but recovered in old disturbed forests because of the active flowering of pioneer trees that became established after the disturbance. Stingless bees nest only in large trees, and nest density was positively correlated with the density of large trees. However, we found no relationship between the numbers of foragers and floristic parameters. Some species preferred nesting in dipterocarps, while others preferred dead trees. The results of the bait-trap survey also indicated that some species were abundant in the primary forests, whereas other species were abundant in the disturbed forests. These results suggest that human disturbance alters the species composition of the stingless bee community. Such changes in the bee community may affect the reproductive success of plants, and ultimately forest composition.  相似文献

Stability of humus in the plow layer soil is considered to affect the quantity and quality of dissolved organic matter leached from the plow layer soil. Therefore, a model experiment was conducted to analyze the effect of soil reduction under submerged conditions on the stability of humus in the plow layer soil. The changes in the stability of humus in the plow layer soil during submerged incubations with and without rice straw application were evaluated based on the changes in the binding type of humus. Binding type of humus in the plow layer soil was analyzed by successive extractions of organic matter with water, 0.25 M Na2SO4, 0.1 M Na4P2O7 (pH 7.0), 0.1 M Na4P2O7 (pH 10.5), and 0.1 M Na4P2O7 (pH 10.5) with NaBH4. Amounts of Fe, Mn, and Mg in each fraction were also determined to estimate the relationships between humus and metals.

The successive extraction of humus indicated that the amount of organic carbon which was extractable with the (NaBH4 +0.1 M Na4P2O7) solution decreased while that of the 0.1 M Na4P2O7 (pH 7.0}-extractable organic carbon increased during submerged incubation with rice straw application. The origin of the increase in the amount of organic carbon in the Na4P2O7 (pH 7.0)-extractable fraction during submerged incubation was investigated further by another incubation experiment using 13C-glucose as a reducing agent. Atom- 13C% analysis showed that the contribution of organic carbon derived from compounds other than glucose to the increase in the contents of humic acids and fulvic acids in the Na4P2O7 (pH 7.0)-extractable fractions was ca. 80%. Therefore, it was concluded that the binding type of humus changed from (NaBH4 + Na4P2O7)-extractable to Na4P2O7 (pH 7.0)-extractable humus under reducing conditions. Since the amounts of organic carbon and Fe increased in the Na4P2O7 (pH 7.0)-extractable fraction and decreased in the (NaBH4 +0.1 M Na4P2O7)-extractable fraction simultaneously, iron reduction was presumably associated with the change in the binding type of humus in submerged paddy soil.  相似文献

The microbiota in the percolating water from the plow layer soil in paddy fields was studied based on the composition of phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs) in a pot experiment. The mean concentrations of PLFAs in the percolating water were 17±5 and 11±4 µg L-1 in the planted and non-planted pots, respectively. The dominant PLFAs in the percolating water were 16: 0, 16: 1ω7c, 18: 1ω7, 18: 1ω9, il5: 0, and ail5: 0 PLFAs in both the planted and non-planted pots. The dominance percentage of 18: 3ω6c and 17: 1ω8 PLFAs increased at the late stage of rice growth in the planted pots. The percolating water from the planted pots contained in a higher percentage of straight mono-unsaturated PLFAs and a lower percentage of branched-chain PLFAs than that from the non-planted pots. Considerable differences in the PLFA composition in the percolating water were observed between the planted and non-planted treatments and with the duration of the growth period. Principal component analysis indicated that the microbiota in the percolating water was derived from the microbiota in the floodwater and in the plow layer soil. Cluster analysis showed that the similarity of the PLFA composition in the percolating water to the PLFA composition in the plow layer soil was higher than that in the floodwater. The stress factor that was estimated from the trans/cis ratio of 16: 1ω7 PLFA was 0.08±0.04 and 0.14±0.05 in the percolating water from the planted and non-planted pots, respectively, which indicated that the degree of stress on the microbiota in the percolating water from the planted pots was low in a similar way to the degree of stress on the microbiota in the floodwater, while the degree in the percolating water from the non-planted pots was similar to that in the plow layer soil, respectively.  相似文献

To assess the effect of continuous organic material (OM) application on soil humic acids, the amount and chemical characteristics of humic acids in various types of soils (n = 10) were compared between plots treated with farmyard manure (FYM) or rice straw compost (RSC) plus chemical fertilizer (CF) and plots treated with CF alone. The degree of humification (degree of darkening), molecular size distribution and 13C cross polarization/magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of humic acids from CF‐treated soils showed wide variation among the soils. Humic acid content was generally larger in OM + CF soils than in corresponding CF soils, and the stable C isotopic ratio suggested partial replacement of indigenous humic acids with OM‐derived ones even where no apparent increase in humic acid content was observed. The rate of OM application and the indigenous humic acid content were related positively and negatively, respectively, to the apparent accumulation rate of humic acids among soils. The degree of humification of humic acids was generally smaller in OM + CF soils than in CF soils. Humic acids extracted from FYM and RSC exhibited chemical characteristics typical of humic acids having a smaller degree of humification, which suggested the contribution of OM‐derived humic acids to the differences between OM + CF and CF soil humic acids, such as larger average molecular sizes and smaller and larger proportions of aromatic C and O‐alkyl C, respectively, relative to total C in the OM + CF soil humic acids. Little change was observed in the chemical characteristics of humic acids when the degree of humification of indigenous humic acids was small. The effect of OM application on the chemical characteristics of humic acids was most conspicuous in soils containing humic acids having an intermediate degree of humification, possibly resulting from the combination of accelerated degradation of indigenous humic acids and the accumulation of OM‐derived humic acids.  相似文献

采用电导法、组织变褐法、生长恢复法及TTC还原法研究了北京园林中主要常绿阔叶植物的抗冻性.结果表明,随着低温胁迫的加强,组织的电解质渗透率、褐化指标以及生长恢复后的冻害指数都明显上升,TTC还原法测定的细胞活力明显下降,不同指标的总体趋势高度一致,与种类的抗冻性密切相关.被测植物的抗冻区域如下:八角金盘-10℃以上,洋常春藤、女贞、扶芳藤-8~-12℃,大叶黄杨-10~-15℃,凤尾兰、火棘、广玉兰-15~-20℃,黄杨-15~-25℃.对不同方法比较后认为,电导法可以用于实践中快速、客观地评价和比较常绿阔叶植物抗冻性.对抗冻性测定的注意事项进行了探讨.  相似文献

An endemic dwarf birch, Betula apoiensis, is critically endangered, and two populations of this species are restricted to the ridges of Mt. Apoi in Hokkaido, Japan. We observed the flowering phenology, pollen dispersal, and viable seed production and conducted pollination experiments in order to examine pollen limitation and hybridization with a sympatric congener, B. ermanii. B. apoiensis flowered earlier than B. ermanii but had a more variable flowering time among trees than B. ermanii. The female flowering of B. apoiensis temporally overlapped with the male flowering of B. ermanii as well as with that of B. apoiensis. Pollination experiments demonstrated that seed set and seed germination were higher in female flowers outcrossed than in those that were non-pollinated, selfed, hybridized with B. ermanii pollen, or pollinated naturally. A few selfed or hybrid seeds were filled and germinated, which indicates that self-incompatibility and reproductive barriers are not complete. Logistic regressions of local density of conspecific trees on natural seed set and seed germination were significantly positive. These results suggest that B. apoiensis is pollen-limited.  相似文献

Andosols are characterized by an abundance of black humic acids (HAs) belonging to Type A with a high content of aromatic carbon (C) in particular condensed aromatic C. Black HAs are also observed in other soils, such as Chernozems and the subsoil of paddy field, and extracted after washing with an acid or using chelating agent such as sodium pyrophosphate (Na4P2O7). However, contribution of condensed aromatic structures to those soil HAs are unknown. To obtain the information about C skeletal structures of black HAs in soils other than Andosols, HAs were obtained from 2 Chinese Chernozem samples, 2 subsoil samples from Japanese paddy fields (Fulvisols), and a Rendzina-like soil (Cambisols) as well as an Andosol sample (reference) by successive extraction with 0.1 M NaOH (HAs1) and 0.1 M Na4P2O7 (HAs2), and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance and X-ray diffraction 11-band profile analyses were applied. In the black HAs2 from the non-Andosol samples, the proportion of C present as aromatic C, size of C layer planes, and relative C layer plane content ranged from 52 to 59%, 0.48 to 1.92 nm (mean size, 0.76–0.91 nm), and 58 to 100 AU (arbitrary unit) mg?1, respectively, with a positive correlation between total C layer plane content and the degree of humification. Those ranges were similar to the distribution ranges of Andosols HAs1 reported by our previous study.  相似文献
