Effects of waxing of the fruit and of the use of cellophane for lining storage boxes on chemical quality indices (including ethanol and acetaldehyde) and flavour scores of Feutrell's Early mandarin during storage at room conditions were determined. Maximum changes during storage of waxed mandarins in film-lined boxes occurred in ethanol contents which were followed by acetaldehyde, total soluble solids (TSS)/acid ratio, TSS and acid contents. There were negative and highly significant linear relationships between flavour scores, and ethanol content and acetaldehyde content. The r2 values indicated that over 90% of the variation in flavour scores could be explained by changes in ethanol and acetaldehyde contents whereas only 50% of the variation in flavour scores could be predicted by changes in total acid and TSS/acid ratios. There were comparatively greater increases in ethanol and acetaldehyde content, lesser increases in TSS and greater decreases in total solids of waxed mandarins during storage than those of unwaxed fruits stored in film lined boxes; the ratio of ethanol and acetaldehyde (E/A) of waxed mandarins was also higher. Decreases in citric acid content during storage correlated linearly to increases in the E/A ratio at the 1% level of significance indicating that citric acid metabolism was affected during storage of waxed mandarins at ordinary room conditions. 相似文献

Objective: To provide information on the ingestion, and subsequent toxicity, of raw bread dough in dogs. Case summary: A report from the ASPCA animal poison control center (APCC) files of 3 cases of ingestion of raw bread dough by dogs. Clinical signs included vomiting, ataxia, blindness, hypothermia, and recumbency. All dogs were successfully treated for ethanol toxicosis. New information: Ingestion of bread dough can cause gastric obstruction, bloat, or ethanol toxicosis. The treatment of ethanol toxicosis, including decontamination, IV fluids, management of metabolic acidosis, and hypoglycemia is discussed. Polyphenols in Eucalyptus leaves (PE) were value resources due to various pharmacological activities, but data on the effect on laying hens are very scare. This study was conducted to determine the effect of PE on the laying performance, egg traits, meat quality, antioxidant status and liver tissues of laying hens. One hundred and twenty 256‐day‐old Yueqinhuang laying hens were randomly assigned to four treatment groups (different levels of PE at 0, 0.5, 0.8 and 1.2 g/kg diet) for 63 days with 15 replicates per group. Addition of 0.8 g/kg PE not only improved the egg trait by increasing the eggshell thickness and decreasing MDA production and cholesterol content in the egg yolk, but also significantly enhanced meat quality of hens, as suggested by the increase pH45 min (p < .01) and a* value, and decrease drip loss rate (p < .01). Meanwhile, under acute ethanol‐induced oxidative damage condition, supplementation of 0.8 g/kg PE enhanced the serum antioxidant status by increasing enzymatic activities (GSH‐PX, T‐SOD, T‐AOC), inhibited oxidative damage and provided protective effect to liver tissue. In conclusion, addition of 0.8 g/kg PE not only improved the egg traits and meat quality without obvious adverse effects, but also increased the serum antioxidant status of the hens and protected their liver tissue from ethanol‐induced oxidative damage. This study indicated that PE could be utilized as an effective feed additive for laying hens to improve health performance and egg traits. 相似文献

Four Japanese black beef cows were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square to evaluate the fermentation quality, digestibility, ruminal fermentation and preference of total mixed ration (TMR) silages prepared with differing proportions of apple pomace (AP). Experimental treatments were the control (no AP added, CAP), 5% (low, LAP), 10% (medium, MAP) and 20% (high, HAP) of TMR dry matter (DM) as AP. All TMR silages were well preserved. Ethanol was produced in silages containing AP and the amount increased with the proportion of AP (P < 0.05). Nutrient digestibility with LAP, MAP and HAP treatment was lower than that with CAP treatment (P < 0.05). The ruminal molar proportion of acetic acid increased (P < 0.05), but the ruminal ammonia‐N concentration decreased (P < 0.05) as the proportion of AP increased. The preference of the animals was highest for HAP, followed by MAP, CAP and LAP. This study demonstrates that decrease in nutrient digestibility might be related to the ethanol produced naturally from AP. Therefore, the proportion of AP in TMR silages should be less than 5% of dietary DM. 相似文献

The purposes of this study were to assess the improvement of fatty liver induced by ethanol with animal liver and bile extracts. This research aimed to increase the economic values of animal liver and bile extracts and used these to reduce damage of ethanol‐induced fatty liver. Extracts came from animal liver and bile, including pig bile powder, pig liver extract, a mixture of pig bile powder and pig liver extract, chicken bile powder, chicken liver extract, and a mixture of chicken bile powder and chicken liver extract, and these were fed to Long‐Evans rats. The results showed that rats fed ethanol for long terms could increase values of aspartate transaminase, cholesterol, γ‐glutamy‐transferase and alkaline phosphatase. Pig bile powder could decrease the values of aspartate transaminase, cholesterol and γ‐glutamy‐transferase. The significances also decreased on aspartate transaminase, γ‐glutamy‐transferase and aspartate transaminase, which were carried out with the pig liver extract treatment. These results suggest pig bile and liver extracts have high potential to improve rats' ethanol‐induced fatty liver with serum biochemical parameters. 相似文献

Changes in the metabolic pattern of proline-14C were examined in barley seedlings germinated at the low temperature of 2°C (LT) and compared with those germinated at 25°C (HT). In the LT shoots. proline-14C incorporation was higher in the cationic fraction and lower in the acid-neutral fraction than that of HT, respectively. More proline-14C of LT was converted to other amino acids, especially to acidic amino acids in free amino acid state, than was the HT proline-14C which had a comparatively wide distribution. In the LT protein fractions. more proline-14C was incorporated into the cytoplasmic protein than into the cell wall protein. On the contrary, the radioactivity of the lIT cell wall increased more distinctively. proline-14C in the two proteins of LT was a little less converted to other amino acids than in those of HT. A little higher radioactivity was found in the aspartate and glutamate of the LT protein hydrolysates. The hydroxyproline which is closely related with proline had a little lower level of radioactivity in the LT cell wall. 相似文献

To prepare for a carbon (C) constrained economy, crop production energy audits or life cycle analysis (LCA) must be conducted. However, energy audits may not maximize profitability. This study conducted simultaneous production, economic, and energy audits to evaluate differences among these assessments. The 2005 and 2006 South Dakota field experiment contained two nitrogen (N; 0 and 224 kg N ha?1) rates, two corn population levels (76,500 and 149,000 plants ha?1), and two simulated landscape positions (upper backslope and lower backslope). The energy inputs, outputs, and net energy gain for corn grain used in ethanol production were calculated using the Nebraska Biofuel Energy Simulator (BESS) version 2008.3.1. For LC analysis, corn grain was used in ethanol production and dry distiller's grain was used as a livestock feed. Manure was not applied to the field. A partial economic analysis to examine profitability was conducted where seed, N fertilizer, and corn values were $312 (100,000 seeds)?1, $1.25 (kg N)?1, and $158 (Mg grain at 15.5% moisture)?1, respectively. Results showed that: 1) to maximize profitability and energy gains, inputs must closely match crop needs for a site; 2) increasing the population level from 74,500 to 149,000 plants ha?1 increased energy input and output, increased yield and energy gain by 11%, but did not influence profitability; 3) increasing N from 0 to 224 kg N ha?1 increased yield 7%, reduced profit by $145/ha, increased energy input and output values, but did not impact energy gain; and 4) corn grown in high yielding areas of landscapes may have higher yields (P = 0.08), profitability (P = 0.08), and energy gains (P = 0.08) than other areas. 为比较蜡样芽孢杆菌及其生物被膜对环境压力的抗性,该文主要研究了4种有机酸(乙酸、柠檬酸、乳酸和苹果酸)和乙醇对蜡样芽孢杆菌及其生物被膜存活率的影响。结果表明:生物被膜态蜡样芽孢杆菌对乙酸的抗性高于浮游态菌。扫描电镜结果显示,经乙酸处理后,浮游态蜡样芽孢杆菌的细胞表面严重受损,而生物被膜态菌的表面形态未发生明显变化。在柠檬酸、乳酸、苹果酸和乙醇存在的条件下,生物被膜态蜡样芽孢杆菌比浮游态菌表现出更强的压力抗性,特别是在高浓度(有机酸16%~20%,乙醇50%~60%)的情况下,该现象尤为显著。因此,在食品工业中控制被膜态蜡样芽孢杆菌对预防和阻止食品腐败非常重要。该研究结果为实际生产中有效控制蜡样芽孢杆菌及其生物被膜的形成提供参考。 相似文献
