Although wild Yangtze Eriocheir sinensis juveniles (coin‐sized seed) have better culture performance than the pond‐reared juveniles during the adult crab culture stage, the culture performance of wild‐caught megalopae (WC) remains unknown. Therefore, this study was designed to compare the growth, survival rate, crab yield, feed conversion rate (FCR), precocity, final weight and size distribution between WC and hatchery‐produced megalopae (HP) during the juvenile culture stage. Wild‐caught megalopae had significantly higher body weight, weight gain rate (WGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) during 0–4 weeks but lower WGR and SGR than HP during 4–8 weeks (p < .05). Although WC had a significantly lower survival rate and yield of normal juvenile crabs than HP, total yields of normal juveniles and precocious crabs were similar. Wild‐caught megalopae had a significantly higher precocious rate and yield of precocious crabs than HP (p < .05). Regardless of sex, no significant differences were found in the gonadosomatic index (GSI), hepatosomatic index (HSI) and final weight of normal juveniles and precocious crabs between WC and HP. As for the size distribution of normal crabs, WC had a higher percentage of small female juveniles (<3 g) but a lower proportion of middle size ranges (3–5.99 g and 6–8.99 g) than HP for females (p < .05), and there was no significant difference for males. In conclusion, wild megalopae of the Yangtze E. sinensis had worse culture performance than the hatchery‐produced seeds; therefore, wild megalopae would not be recommended for commercially juvenile culture of E. sinensis. 相似文献

The Great East Japan Earthquake and accompanying tsunamis occurred on 11 March 2011, causing huge damage to marine organisms. The invasive naticid gastropod Laguncula pulchella (Euspira fortunei), which was introduced with the imported clam Ruditapes philippinarum from China and Korea, survived the earthquake. The “growth break line” observed on the shell surface in over 90% of the individuals collected in Matsushima Bay and Matsukawa-ura Lagoon after the tsunamis was examined by scanning electron microscopy. Each shell presented three layers before and three after the growth break. However, the fracture surface consisted of five layers—two prismatic and three crossed lamellar—around the growth break line. This suggests that shell formation temporarily ceased following the tsunamis and that the five-layered shell may have developed in response to the stress caused by the tsunamis. The newly formed middle layer became thinner after the “tsunami break,” which may be the result of a rapid change in the mineralization process, including rapid shell growth and/or repair. These results suggest that the damage to and forcible removal of habitats by the tsunamis was stressful for L. pulchella. A decrease in or the cessation of shell formation after a tsunami may be a common phenomenon in mollusks that inhabit tidal flats. 相似文献

Bronze corydoras (Corydoras aeneus) is a small diurnal activity fish from South America. Under hypoxia conditions, it uses the posterior part of the intestine as an accessory respiratory organ. The present PCR studies demonstrated higher expression of HIF-1α (hypoxia-inducible factor) gene in the respiratory than that in digestive part of bronze corydoras intestine. Further, immunolocalization studies using antibodies specific to HIF-1α and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed the presence of HIF-1α epitopes in the intestine of Corydoras aeneus. In the respiratory intestine, the numerous clusters of gold particles visualizing HIF-1α antibody were observed within fibroblasts, whereas in the digestive tract of this species, single gold grains in the epithelial cells were noted. On the other hand, the presence of HIF-1α and the cytoplasmic domain of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in the respiratory intestine of bronze corydoras assumes their interactions in the system where these factors appeared for the first time. The non-obligatory air-breathing fishes using their digestive tract as an accessory respiratory organ during hypoxia conditions are very interesting for the studies of the processes that control HIF-1α expression and squamous cell proliferation. 相似文献

The early life history of girellid fishes in Japanese waters is unclear, and little is known about their species-specific reproductive strategies. We examined seasonal changes of distribution patterns for settlement-stage juveniles of Girella punctata and Girella leonina on the rocky shore in the regions of Kanto and Izu, Japan, to infer the influence of the Kuroshio Current on their reproduction. We collected 813 settlement-stage juveniles mainly in Sagami Bay and genetically identified the species. The juveniles of G. punctata were collected on the rocky shore in Sagami Bay during April to August, with the abundant catch in May and June. Thus, we infer that juvenile G. punctata ubiquitously inhabit the rocky shore in the area in spring and summer. By contrast, juveniles of G. leonina were rarely collected in Sagami Bay, with a total catch of only 66. Notably, no juveniles were collected during the wintertime in Sagami Bay, although an abundant catch of G. leonina had been previously reported for Sagami Nada off Sagami Bay during January to March. This clear-cut difference between the areas likely reflects the difference in proximity to the path of the Kuroshio Current. We expect that the Kuroshio Current strongly influences the reproductive success of G. leonina. 相似文献

Teleost fishes are prominent vertebrate models of evolution, illustrated among old‐world radiations by the Cichlidae of East African Great Lakes and new‐world radiations by the circumpolar Arctic charr Salvelinus alpinus. Herein, we describe variation in lake charr S. namaycush morphology, life history, physiology and ecology, as another example of radiation. The lake charr is restricted to northern North America, where it originated from glacial refugia and diversified in large lakes. Shallow and deepwater morphs arose in multiple lakes, with a large‐bodied shallow‐water ‘lean’ morph in shallow inshore depths, a small‐bodied mid‐water ‘humper’ morph on offshore shoals or banks, a robust, large‐bodied moderate to deep‐water ‘redfin’; morph and a large‐bodied deep‐water ‘siscowet’ morph at depths > 100 m. Eye position, gape size, and gillraker length and spacing adapted for feeding on different‐sized prey, with piscivorous morphs (leans, siscowets and presumably redfins) reaching larger asymptotic size than invertivorous morphs (humpers). Lean morphs are light in colour, whereas deepwater morphs are drab and dark, although the pattern is reversed in dark tannic lakes. Morphs shift from benthic to pelagic feeding at a length of 400–490 mm. Phenotypic differences in locomotion, buoyancy and lipid metabolism evolved into different mechanisms for buoyancy regulation, with lean morphs relying on hydrodynamic lift and siscowet morphs relying on hydrostatic lift. We suggest that the Salvelinus genus, rather than the species S. alpinus, is a diverse genus that should be the subject of comparative studies of processes causing divergence and adaptation among member species that may lead to a more complete evolutionary conceptual model. 相似文献

Georges Bank haddock is a recently recovered fish stock in the New England groundfish fishery. Due to federal constraints under the Magnuson–Steven Act, however, this stock cannot be optimally exploited due to the bycatch of other critical species in the New England groundfishery such as cod and yellowtail flounder which are overfished. The Ruhle trawl and Separator trawl are examples of recent advances in gear technology that have been shown to significantly increase haddock to bycatch ratios. This study models the groundfish fishery through a mixed-stock yield model which incorporates technological interactions. We also develop a socio-economic model that quantifies the amount of employment and producer surplus associated with three trawl types. Our results explore policy situations regarding the use of the new trawls. By bridging the biological and socio-economic models, we are able to view the fishery as a system that more accurately represents stakeholder views. Our model shows that each trawl, when used exclusively, produces different optimum strategies and therefore an optimum management strategy would most likely include a combination of trawl types. Our results also support the logic of using modified trawls for haddock fishing trips in which bycatch is strictly regulated (“B days”) as the Ruhle trawl is able to maintain 80% of catches caught by a conventional trawl while reducing bycatch up to over 60%. This paper is a first step towards an aid for policy makers to examine fishery gear trade-offs and the resulting biological and socio-economic consequences of different management actions within the constraints of the Magnuson–Stevens Act. 相似文献

Sharks are very sensitive to stress and prone to a high mortality rate after capture. Since approximately 50 million of sharks are caught as bycatch every year, and current recommendations to reduce the impact of commercial fishing strongly support immediate release, it is imperative to better understand post-release mortality caused by the stress of capture and handling. Blood samples allow the assessment of stress levels which are valuable tools to reduce mortality in commercial, recreational and scientific fishing, being essential for the improvement in those conservation measures. Biochemical analyses are widely used for sharks as stress indicators, with secondary plasma parameters (lactate, glucose and ions) being the most often employed assays. However, it is virtually impossible to determine baseline plasma parameters in free-ranging sharks, since blood withdrawal involves animal capture and restrain, which are stressful procedures. This study aims at analyzing secondary parameters of five healthy tiger sharks captured with circular hooks and handlines in Fernando de Noronha (Northeastern Brazil) and comparing them with secondary parameters of three dead tiger sharks caught off Recife (also Northeastern Brazil). The results showed that the analysis of some plasma constituents in dead animals may be an efficient tool to assess stress and lethality. However, traditional parameters such as glucose and calcium, need to be used with caution. The results also demonstrated the extreme importance of urea and phosphorus for assessing stress response and mortality in tiger sharks, both parameters frequently neglected and of utmost importance for shark’s homeostasis. 相似文献

This paper presents a comparative study of the roles of Cl? and HCO3 ? in the functioning of the GABAAR-associated Cl?/HCO3 ?-ATPase of the plasma membranes of the olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) and mature brain neurons (MBNs) of fish. The ATPase activity of OSNs and its dephosphorylation were increased twofold by Cl?(15–30 mmol l?1), whereas the enzyme from MBNs was not significantly affected by Cl?. By contrast, HCO3 ?(15–30 mmol l?1) significantly activated the MBN enzyme and its dephosphorylation, but had no effect on the OSN ATPase. The maximum ATPase activity and protein dephosphorylation was observed in the presence of both Cl?(15 mmol l?1)/HCO3 ?(27 mmol l?1) and these activities were inhibited in the presence of picrotoxin (100 μmol l?1), bumetanide (150 μmol l?1), and DIDS (1000 μmol l?1). SDS-PAGE revealed that ATPases purified from the neuronal membrane have a subunit with molecular mass of ~?56 kDa that binds [3H]muscimol and [3H]flunitrazepam. Direct phosphorylation of the enzymes in the presence of ATP-γ-32P and Mg2+, as well as Cl?/HCO3 ? sensitive dephosphorylation, is also associated with this 56 kDa peptide. Both preparations also showed one subunit with molecular mass 56 kDa that was immunoreactive with GABAAR β3 subunit. The use of a fluorescent dye for Cl? demonstrated that HCO3 ?(27 mmol l?1) causes a twofold increase in Cl? influx into proteoliposomes containing reconstituted ATPases from MBNs, but HCO3 ? had no effect on the reconstituted enzyme from OSNs. These data are the first to demonstrate a differential effect of Cl? and HCO3 ? in the regulation of the Cl?/HCO3 ?-ATPases functioning in neurons with different specializations. 相似文献

The spawning grounds of the chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus) and spotted mackerel (Scomber australasicus) in the East China Sea were estimated based on catch statistics of the Japanese large- and medium-type purse seine fishery
from 1992 to 2006. Biometric data were obtained from specimens caught by purse seiners in the East China Sea from 1998 to
2006. Gonadosomatic index (GSI) at 50% sexual maturity of chub mackerel and spotted mackerel females was 2.5 and 2.6, respectively.
Using this criterion for GSI, chub mackerel larger than 275 mm and spotted mackerel larger than 310 mm in fork length were
considered to be mature. Mature chub mackerel was observed in the area of 15–22°C sea surface temperature (SST), and mature
spotted mackerel was observed in the area of 17–25°C SST. The spawning period of chub mackerel ranged from February to June,
and that of spotted mackerel ranged from February to May in the East China Sea. The spawning grounds were estimated from the
distributions of catch per unit effort (CPUE) of spawners and SST. As a result, the spawning ground of chub mackerel was estimated
to be in the central and southern part of the East China Sea and the area west of Kyushu in February, March, and April, and
in the central part of the East China Sea, the area west of Kyushu and Tsushima Straight in May, and in Tsushima Straight
and western part of the Sea of Japan in June. The spawning ground of spotted mackerel was estimated to be in the central and
southern part of the East China Sea and southern coastal area of Kyushu in February, March, and April, and the central and

The full-length cDNA, encoding the orange-spotted grouper β-actin and spanning 1920 bp including a poly (A) tail, was cloned
from its brain cDNA library. The open reading frame encodes a protein of 375 amino acids. Sequence analysis indicated that
it contained the typical structural features of cytoplasmic actins, and showed higher homology with other vertebrate β-actin
than any other members of the actin family. The partial genomic sequence indicated that the organization of the β-actin gene
in the orange-spotted grouper might also be conserved. Northern blot analysis indicated that it was expressed at high levels
in the brain, spleen, adipose tissue, ovary, and liver, but at low levels in the gill filament and heart, and at a very low
level in the kidney. The expression of β-actin gene in the skeletal muscle was barely detectable. These results indicated
that the expression of the orange-spotted grouper β-actin gene showed significant variation in different tissues. Therefore,
caution should be taken when using β-actin gene as an internal control in the normalization of gene expression among tissues.
Whereas, semi-quantitative RT-PCR analysis indicated that treatment with 17α–methyltestosterone (MT) had little effect on
the mRNA expression of β-actin gene in the in vitro incubated hypothalamus, pituitary, and ovary fragments of the orange-spotted grouper, suggesting β-actin can be used as an
internal control for RT-PCR analysis of MT effects on gene expression in these tissues. 相似文献

An introduced pathogenic fish trematode, Parabucephalopsis parasiluri Wang, 1985 (Digenea: Bucephalidae), was studied to determine the seasonal fluctuation in its metacercariae abundance. The
timing of the recruitment period of the metacercariae and the relationship between yearly fluctuation in metacercarial abundance
and some environmental factors were also examined to develop an effective plan for disease control. Monthly changes in metacercarial
abundance in the caudal fin of pale chub (Zacco platypus) and of the prevalence of the first intermediate host (golden mussel Limnoperna fortunei) suggest that P. parasiluri generally has an annual life cycle. The metacercarial abundance in chub increased when the water temperature fell below 7°C
in winter, but the rapidity of the increase varied between 2007 and 2008. The fluctuations in the abundance of metacercariae
in winter from 2001 to 2008 showed that mean flow rate and mean water level in January were negatively related to the infection
level each year, and positively related to the mean water temperature. Based on these results, we propose a control plan for
parabucephalopsiosis involving discharge control; that is, more than 50 m3/s (corresponding to 150 m3/s in the Yodo River) of water should be flushed from upstream dams for a period of at least one week starting on the day
when the water temperature falls below 7°C. 相似文献

The changes in the biochemical compositions and enzymatic activities of rotifer (Brachionus plicatilis) and Artemia, enriched and stored at 4°C temperature, were determined. The total starvation period was 16 h and samples were taken at
the end of the 8th and 16th hours. In present study, the rotifer and nauplii catabolized a large proportion of the protein
during the enrichment period. Lipid contents of both live preys increased during the enrichment period and decreased in nauplii
and metanauplii throughout the starvation period but lipid content of the rotifer remained relatively constant during the
starvation period. The changes observed in the amino acid compositions of Artemia and the rotifer were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The conspicuous decline the essential amino acid (EAA) and nonessential amino acid (NEAA) content of the rotifer
was observed during the enrichment period. However, the essential amino acid (EAA) and nonessential amino acid (NEAA) contents
of Artemia nauplii increased during the enrichment period. The unenriched and enriched rotifers contained more monounsaturated fatty
acid (MUFAs) than polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFAs) and saturated fatty acids (SFA). However, Artemia contained more PUFAs than MUFAs and SFA during the experimental period. A sharp increase in the amounts of docosahexaenoic
acid (DHA) during the enrichment of the rotifer and Artemia nauplii was observed. However, the amount of DHA throughout the starvation period decreased in Artemia metanauplii but not in Artemia nauplii. Significant differences in tryptic, leucine aminopeptidase N (LAP), and alkaline phosphatase (AP) enzyme activities
of Artemia and rotifer were observed during the enrichment and starvation period (P < 0.05). The digestive enzymes derived from live food to fish larvae provided the highest contribution at the end of the
enrichment period. In conclusion, the results of the study provide important contributions to determine the most suitable
live food offering time for marine fish larvae. Rotifer should be offered to fish larvae at the end of the enrichment period,
Artemia nauplii just after hatching and before being stored at 4°C, and Artemia metanauplii at the end of the enrichment and throughout the starvation period. 相似文献

It is well known that healthy gut microbiota is essential to promote host health and well‐being. The intestinal microbiota of endothermic animals as well as fish are classified as autochthonous or indigenous, when they are able to colonize the host's epithelial surface or are associated with the microvilli, or as allochthonous or transient (associated with digesta or are present in the lumen). Furthermore, the gut microbiota of aquatic animals is more fluidic than that of terrestrial vertebrates and is highly sensitive to dietary changes. In fish, it is demonstrated that [a] dietary form (live feeds or pelleted diets), [b] dietary lipid (lipid levels, lipid sources and polyunsaturated fatty acids), [c] protein sources (soybean meal, krill meal and other meal products), [d] functional glycomic ingredients (chitin and cellulose), [e] nutraceuticals (probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics and immunostimulants), [f] antibiotics, [g] dietary iron and [h] chromic oxide affect the gut microbiota. Furthermore, some information is available on bacterial colonization of the gut enterocyte surface as a result of dietary manipulation which indicates that changes in indigenous microbial populations may have repercussion on secondary host–microbe interactions. The effect of dietary components on the gut microbiota is important to investigate, as the gastrointestinal tract has been suggested as one of the major routes of infection in fish. Possible interactions between dietary components and the protective microbiota colonizing the digestive tract are discussed. 相似文献

Female catfish, Clarias gariepinus, were collected from the Nile River at Assiut region, were divided into 7 groups. The first group was left as control, and
the second was treated with mercuric chloride (MC) for 3 weeks following by normal water for 1 week. The third, fourth and
fifth groups were provided by MC (150 μg/ l of water). This treatment was continued for 3 weeks. Then, the fish were received
CN instead of MC, for 1 week, with 15 and 25 mg CN/100 g wet food. The fifth fish group received diet supplemented with vit
E (α-tocopherol) (100 mg/kg wet diet), for 1 week, instead of MC treatment. Vitamin E was used as standard antioxidant drug.
Following 3 weeks of normal ambient water, the sixth and seventh aquaria received only CN for 1 week, with 15 and 25 mg CN
respectively/100 g wet food, respectively. At the end of the experiment, Samples of liver, kidneys (posterior part), gills
(right gills) and ovary were excised. The measurement included the oxidative stress parameters: carbonyl protein and total
peroxide and the antioxidant enzyme activities superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione S-transferase (GST)
in all selected organs. MC treatment induced harmful effect in fish, probably due to its enhancing effect on reactive oxygen
species (ROS) production in fish organs especially the respiratory and osmoregulatory organs namely gills. The result suggests
that this gill damage may exert hypoxic case, anoxia for different organs and some Cu excretion resulting in a magnification
of ROS overproduction. Also, the observed oxidative stress in ovary tissue of MC-treated fish may affect fish fertility. The
addition of CN in fish diets could protect the fish C. gariepinus against MC-induced oxidative damage showing recovery of fish organs. It could suggest that the detoxifying mechanism of action
of CN is mainly due to its scavenging activity of free radicals rather than tissue healing. 相似文献
