This article expounds the re lationship between discourse knowledge and teaching of College English writing.Accordingto Kaplan's research and survey,a good understanding of the differences in the modes of discourse thinking betweenEnglish and Chinese people helps English teachers to enhance their teaching of College English writing.In specific,English teachers,gearing their efforts to the capability of their students,should gradually and systemically guide and train their thinking from the aspect of English discourse,while students,by building up their cultural schematathrough sub-stantial reading,can learn how to apply discourse knowledgeto discourse con-struction;therefore,an increase of their writing ability can be expected.
