We estimate a spatial econometric interaction model for bilateral aggregate FDI stock data between 25 European Union member countries in 2010. We find evidence for spatial spillovers of foreign direct investment for three different types of spatial dependence. Our results document FDI spillovers between neighboring countries of FDI origin countries, neighboring countries of FDI destination countries as well as between neighboring countries of both FDI origin and destination countries. Relying on recently developed methods, we provide the first model‐consistent interpretation of marginal effects of market size (measured by GDP) as well as GDP per capita on bilateral FDI activity. Our research highlights the importance of taking into account spatial lags when estimating bilateral FDI gravity models.  相似文献

A high-resolution crystallographic analysis of the nitrogenase MoFe-protein reveals a previously unrecognized ligand coordinated to six iron atoms in the center of the catalytically essential FeMo-cofactor. The electron density for this ligand is masked in structures with resolutions lower than 1.55 angstroms, owing to Fourier series termination ripples from the surrounding iron and sulfur atoms in the cofactor. The central atom completes an approximate tetrahedral coordination for the six iron atoms, instead of the trigonal coordination proposed on the basis of lower resolution structures. The crystallographic refinement at 1.16 angstrom resolution is consistent with this newly detected component being a light element, most plausibly nitrogen. The presence of a nitrogen atom in the cofactor would have important implications for the mechanism of dinitrogen reduction by nitrogenase.  相似文献

Deoxynivalenol (DON) is a toxic secondary metabolite produced by molds of the Fusarium genus and is known to cause a spectrum of diseases in animals such as vomiting and gastroenteritis. It is found in cereals and cereal products as most processing techniques lead only to a partial reduction of deoxynivalenol levels. One technique with a reported relatively high impact on deoxynivaleol decomposition is extrusion cooking. In the current work, systematic studies of a range of physicochemical parameters, such as temperature, moisture, compression, residence time in the extruder, pH value, and protein content, on their impact on deoxynivalenol decomposition during extrusion cooking were performed. The analysis of deoxynivalenol was made by high-performance liquid chromatography--tandem mass spectrometry using a quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe-based cleanup with 15-d(1)-deoxynivalenol as an internal standard. It could be shown that the reduction of deoxynivalenol levels is dependent on a set of parameters partially interacting with each other. Especially the moisture content and compression are key factors for the reduction of deoxynivalenol levels. A correlation between residence time of the mycotoxin in the extruder and deoxynivalenol degradation was also observed when screws without a compression factor were used. Generally, the reduction of deoxynivalenol levels was increased by the use of screws with a high compression factor. As known from cooking, deoxynivalenol could also be easily degraded by extrusion under alkaline conditions. Furthermore, an increase of the protein content of the starting material resulted in higher reduction rates of deoxynivalenol.  相似文献

The transport of pyruvate, the end product of glycolysis, into mitochondria is an essential process that provides the organelle with a major oxidative fuel. Although the existence of a specific mitochondrial pyruvate carrier (MPC) has been anticipated, its molecular identity remained unknown. We report that MPC is a heterocomplex formed by two members of a family of previously uncharacterized membrane proteins that are conserved from yeast to mammals. Members of the MPC family were found in the inner mitochondrial membrane, and yeast mutants lacking MPC proteins showed severe defects in mitochondrial pyruvate uptake. Coexpression of mouse MPC1 and MPC2 in Lactococcus lactis promoted transport of pyruvate across the membrane. These observations firmly establish these proteins as essential components of the MPC.  相似文献

We compared growth properties of spotted wolffish with initial mean weight (± SE) 3.65 (± 0.15) kg reared in shallow raceways at three different densities (50, 70, and 90 kg/m2, corresponding to approx. 170, 240, and 310 kg/m3) in a 447‐day‐long growth trial at ambient temperature (mean (± SD), 4.2 C ± 1.9). Growth in all three groups was comparable, but there was a trend toward higher growth at the highest density. Final mean weights (kg ± SE) were 4.90 (± 0.15), 4.80 (± 0.16), and 5.05 (± 0.11), at the 50, 70, and 90 kg/m2 density, respectively. Initially, growth rates were higher at the 90 kg/m2 density group compared to the two other densities, but overall growth rates were similar in all three groups. Feed conversion efficiency differed and was higher at the two highest densities compared to lowest density. The acid–base balance was influenced by the density treatment as there was a general trend toward higher partial pressure of CO2 and HCO in the 90 kg/m2 group. Calculated productivity increased almost linearly with increasing stocking density and was found to be 24, 42, and 66 g/m2/day at 50, 70, and 90 kg/m2, respectively. The results show that the optimum density conditions for farming large spotted wolffish, both with respect to growth rate, feed conversion, and productivity are at densities equal to or higher than 90 kg/m2.  相似文献

Tropical savanna ecosystems are a major contributor to global CO2, CH4 and N2O greenhouse gas exchange. Savanna fire events represent large, discrete C emissions but the importance of ongoing soil-atmosphere gas exchange is less well understood. Seasonal rainfall and fire events are likely to impact upon savanna soil microbial processes involved in N2O and CH4 exchange. We measured soil CO2, CH4 and N2O fluxes in savanna woodland (Eucalyptus tetrodonta/Eucalyptus miniata trees above sorghum grass) at Howard Springs, Australia over a 16 month period from October 2007 to January 2009 using manual chambers and a field-based gas chromatograph connected to automated chambers. The effect of fire on soil gas exchange was investigated through two controlled burns and protected unburnt areas. Fire is a frequent natural and management action in these savanna (every 1-2 years). There was no seasonal change and no fire effect upon soil N2O exchange. Soil N2O fluxes were very low, generally between −1.0 and 1.0 μg N m−2 h−1, and often below the minimum detection limit. There was an increase in soil NH4+ in the months after the 2008 fire event, but no change in soil NO3. There was considerable nitrification in the early wet season but minimal nitrification at all other times.Savanna soil was generally a net CH4 sink that equated to between −2.0 and −1.6 kg CH4 ha−1 y−1 with no clear seasonal pattern in response to changing soil moisture conditions. Irrigation in the dry season significantly reduced soil gas diffusion and as a consequence soil CH4 uptake. There were short periods of soil CH4 emission, up to 20 μg C m−2 h−1, likely to have been caused by termite activity in, or beneath, automated chambers. Soil CO2 fluxes showed a strong bimodal seasonal pattern, increasing fivefold from the dry into the wet season. Soil moisture showed a weak relationship with soil CH4 fluxes, but a much stronger relationship with soil CO2 fluxes, explaining up to 70% of the variation in unburnt treatments. Australian savanna soils are a small N2O source, and possibly even a sink. Annual soil CH4 flux measurements suggest that the 1.9 million km2 of Australian savanna soils may provide a C sink of between −7.7 and −9.4 Tg CO2-e per year. This sink estimate would offset potentially 10% of Australian transport related CO2-e emissions. This CH4 sink estimate does not include concurrent CH4 emissions from termite mounds or ephemeral wetlands in Australian savannas.  相似文献

The aim of the present investigation was to study the effect of a varying maternal vitamin B6 supplementation during lactation period on vitamin B6 levels in blood, liver and total body, and on the activity of two transaminase enzymes in the offspring. Therefore, eighty female Sprague-Dawley rats were fed a semi-synthetic diet (0.2 mg vitamin B6 per kg) which was supplemented during gravidity with 5 mg vitamin B6 per kg diet. During the following lactation period the rats were assigned to one of 10 vitamin B6 treatment groups (supplementation of 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 36, 360, 3600 mg vitamin B6 per kg diet). At day 14 of lactation the pubs of all dams were decapitated and blood, liver, and carcass were used for analysis of vitamin B6 concentration, activities of two transaminases, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in plasma, erythrocytes, and liver, and of haematological parameters. While the liver and total body wet weights as well as the haematological parameters (red blood cells, haemoglobin concentration, hematocrit, middle corpuscular cell volume, middle corpuscular haemoglobin, middle corpuscular haemoglobin concentration) did not differ within the experimental groups, the present data clearly show that in blood, liver and total body of the offspring exists a slight dose-response relationship between the maternal dietary vitamin B6 supplementation and the vitamin B6 concentration. Concerning the activities of the transaminases a dietary supplementation above 3 mg vitamin B6 per kg diet had no influence on the AST and ALT activities in offspring plasma. In the erythrocytes no statistical significant influence of the vitamin B6 supplementation during lactation on the activities of AST and ALT was found. The activities of ALT and AST in liver were not consistently altered by the vitamin B6 supplementation of the dams during lactation. In conclusion these results indicate that a minimal maternal dietary vitamin B6 supply of 3.1 mg per kg diet is necessary with regard to health and development of their offspring. But not all of the analysed parameters as the liver and total body weights, the activities of AST and ALT in the erythrocytes, and the haematological parameters were influenced by a deficient maternal dietary vitamin B6 supply.  相似文献

Biofumigation potential of Brassicaceae cultivars to Verticillium dahliae   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The biofumigation potential of brassicaceous green manures to Verticillium dahliae was systematically assessed. In a toxicological study, five different isothiocyanates (ITCs) were tested using a bioassay with sterile quartz sand artificially infested with microsclerotia. For 2-propenyl ITC, a LD90 value of 88.7 nmol g?1 was determined. Furthermore, 2-propenyl ITC with a dose of 150 nmol g?1 soil was tested in 22 naturally infested soils. The efficiency varied from 9 % to 92 % and was negatively correlated with the organic carbon content of the soils, indicating that in many soils much higher concentrations will be necessary to achieve sufficient control. To evaluate the biofumigation potential of different Brassicaceae, 19 cultivars of Brassica juncea, Rhaphanus sativus and Sinapis alba were grown in the field. Biomass production was measured and glucosinolate concentrations were analyzed. Simulating the field situation, the biofumigation effect of cultivars was assessed in a standardized laboratory bioassay with microsclerotia-infested sterile quartz sand amended with freeze-dried ground plant tissues. Amendments of B. juncea shoot tissue reduced the number of viable microsclerotia significantly with efficiencies from 69.3 to 81.3 %. Total potentially released amounts of 2-propenyl ITC ranged between 50.6–78.1 nmol g?1sand and indicate a clear ITC-related suppression. However these are considered too low for effective control in practice as low release efficiencies mean that effective levels fall well short of the estimated 150 nmol g?1 of soil required. In comparison with B. juncea, the R. sativus and S. alba were less effective due to lower concentrations and/or toxicity of the ITC released. In summary, the biofumigation potential of the cultivars tested appears insufficient alone for effective control, especially on soils with higher (>1.0 %) organic carbon content.  相似文献
