Nile tilapia exhibits strong sexual growth dimorphism. The potential role of sex steroid hormones in sexual growth dimorphism is not fully understood. We investigated the effects of estradiol (E2) and testosterone (T) on growth rate, plasma sex hormones, and expression of growth hormone (GH)‐insulin‐like growth factor (IGF) axis genes and muscle regulatory factor (MRF) genes in female and male Nile tilapia. The results revealed that serum concentrations of E2 and T were significantly higher after correlative injection (P < 0.05). Compared to male fish, female fish had lower growth rates. E2 increased growth performance in females with no significant effects on males, whereas T significantly increased growth performance in males, with no significant effects on females. In females, E2 significantly increased expression of ghr1, ghr2, igf1, and igf2, while T decreased igf2 and increased ghr1 and ghr2 expression. In males, T increased expression of igf1, igf2, ghr1, and ghr2, and E2 decreased expression of igf1, ghr1, and ghr2. Additionally, E2 and T enhanced the expression of MRF genes (myod1, myod2, myog, and myf5) in female and male fish, respectively. The results suggest that sex steroid hormones play a role in sexual growth dimorphism by regulating the expression of GH‐IGF axis and MRF genes.  相似文献

Xylan is one of the main non‐starch polysaccharides (NSPs) in cottonseed meal. This study aimed to evaluate the anti‐nutrition effect of xylan and to better understand cottonseed meal as a feed ingredient for the Chinese mitten crab, Eriocheir sinensis. A diet containing 280 g/kg fishmeal without cottonseed meal or xylan was formulated as a control (FM diet). A second diet (XYL diet) was supplemented with 53.3 g/kg xylan according to its amount in the third diet, the cottonseed meal diet (CSM diet), which was formulated to include 400 g/kg cottonseed meal. The last diet (CSM + XYLase diet) included 400 g/kg xylanase hydrolysed cottonseed meal, in which most xylan was hydrolysed. Diets were isonitrogenous (370 g/kg crude protein) and isoenergetic (17.58 KJ/g) and were randomly fed to 12 tanks of crabs for 8 weeks. Results showed that no difference was detected among groups in growth performance, serum biochemical index, or digestive and metabolism enzyme activity (p > 0.05). The apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) of dry matter was FM > XYL > CSM + XYLase > CSM (< 0.05). The ADC of protein in crab fed diet FM and XYL was significantly higher than CSM and CSM + XYLase (p < 0.05). Cottonseed meal decreased the fold height of the hindgut, upregulated the expression of peritrophin genes of Es‐PL44 and Es‐PP1 (p < 0.05), while xylan decreased the fold height of the hindgut and upregulated the expression of Es‐PP1 (p < 0.05). These results indicated that the negative effect of cottonseed meal and xylan on digestibility partly compensated by enhanced absorption of the hindgut innerly and by supplementation of xylanase externally, and cottonseed meal is an attractive alternative protein source in general for Chinese mitten crab.  相似文献

A 9‐week study was conducted to evaluate the potential of processed animal protein (PAP) in comparison with soybean meal (SM) to replace fish meal (FM) in practical diets for European catfish, Silurus glanis, on growth performance, liver transaminase activities and expression of growth‐related genes. Seven isonitrogenous (440 g kg‐1 crude protein) and isoenergetic (16.70 MJ/kg) practical diets were formulated by replacing 0 (control), 30%, 60% and 100% FM with either SM or PAP. Each diet was randomly assigned to triplicate groups of 25 fish per cages fixed in the pond. Fish fed the diet substituted 100% FM from SM or PAP had lower (p < .05) growth performance, feed efficiency and protein retention compared to control and other groups. The decreased growth performance occurred concomitant with a decline in the expression level of liver GHR/IGF‐I axis genes. The gene expression and activity of liver protein metabolism enzymes also positively correlated with growth performance. Findings of this study indicated that both SM and PAP were equally effective in replacing FM up to 60% in the practical diet of Silurus glanis. Total replacement of FM either with SM or PAP induced negative influences on growth and feed utilization.  相似文献

Jatropha curcas seed meal was fermented with Bacillus licheniformis (LFJSM) and Bacillus pumilus (PFJSM) separately using the solid‐state fermentation. After fermentation, the crude protein and the total hydrolysed amino acid contents were increased in LFJSM and PFJSM, while fibre content, phytic acid, trypsin inhibitor and saponins were decreased. An 84‐day feeding experiment was designed for the nutritional evaluation of LFJSM and PFJSM in Nile tilapia. Seven isonitrogenous (305.47 g kg?1 crude protein) and isocaloric (18.21 MJ kg?1 gross energy) diets were formulated by replacing 0% (control diet), 25% (LFJSM‐25), 50% (LFJSM‐50), 75% (LFJSM‐75) and 25% (PFJSM‐25), 50% (PFJSM‐50) and 75% (PFJSM‐75) of protein from fish meal with LFJSM and PFJSM. The higher weight gain and the best feed conversion ratio were found in fish fed control diet, PFJSM‐25 and PFJSM‐50, which were insignificantly different. Apparent digestibility coefficient values of dry matter, crude protein, lipid and digestible energy reached a plateau in fish fed PFJSM‐25 and PFJSM‐50. No significant differences were found in haematocrit, haemoglobin, serum alternative complement pathway components, alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase and triglycerides between the control diet, LFJSM‐25, LFJSM‐50, PFJSM‐25 and PFJSM‐50 treatment groups. Therefore, these findings suggest that up 50% of fish meal can be replaced by PFJSM in Nile tilapia diets.  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of fish meal (FM) replacement by Chlorella meal (CM) with dietary cellulase supplementation on growth performance, digestive enzymatic activities, histology and myogenic genes’ expression in crucian carp Carassius auratus (initial body weight: 2.90 ± 0.02 g, mean ± SEM). Six isonitrogenous diets were formulated at two cellulase levels (0 and 2 g kg?1). At each cellulase level, CM was added at three levels of 0, 533.1 and 710.8 g kg?1 to substitute 0, 75 and 100% of dietary FM respectively. Each experimental diet was randomly assigned to triplicate groups with 25 juvenile fish per fibreglass tank for 8 weeks. Dietary CM substitution significantly increased growth, feed utilization, amylase activity and the expression of Myod, Mrf4 and Myf5, but reduced the Myog expression. Dietary cellulase addition increased hepatosomatic and viscerosomatic index, lipase activity and the expression of Mrf4, but reduced trypsin activity and the expression of Myog and Myf5. Dietary CM substitution enlarged the cell size and also caused some karyopyknosis in liver. Our results showed that CM could totally replace FM in diets; dietary cellulase supplementation at the level of 2 g kg?1 played a subtle role in improving growth and feed utilization for crucian carp.  相似文献

Insulin‐like growth factor (IGF) plays a key role in the complex system that regulates bony fish growth, differentiation, and reproduction. In the current study, recombinant tongue sole IGF‐1 and IGF‐2 were obtained using the Pichia pastoris expression system and their comparative bioactivities were investigated. Tricine–SDS–PAGE and western blot analysis showed that the recombinant tongue sole IGFs were secreted into the culture medium and had a molecular weight of 8.7 kDa. The optimal incubation time and pH for recombinant expression of IGFs were 36 hr and 5.0 respectively. Functional analysis demonstrated that both recombinant tongue sole IGF‐1 and IGF‐2 significantly promoted cell proliferation of MFC‐7 in vitro. In addition, the recombinant tongue sole IGF‐1 and IGF‐2 proteins could suppress hepatic mRNA levels of igf‐1 and igf‐2 in vitro, which showed that they have similar physiological functions. Taken together, the biologically active recombinant tongue sole IGF‐I and IGF‐II proteins will allow us to further investigate their physiological roles in growth regulation of this species. Furthermore, the present results also hinted at the potential application of these two recombinant IGF‐I and IGF‐II proteins into the tongue sole farming industry.  相似文献

We evaluated the effect of a diet containing insect meal and insect oil on nutrient utilization, tissue fatty acid profile and lipid metabolism of freshwater Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Insect meal and insect oil from black soldier fly larvae (Hermetia illucens, L.; BSF), naturally high in lauric acid (12:0), were used to produce five experimental diets for an eight‐week feeding trial. 85% of the dietary protein was replaced by insect meal and/or all the vegetable oil was replaced by one of two types of insect oil. A typical industrial diet, with protein from fishmeal and soy protein concentrate (50:50) and lipids from fish oil and vegetable oil (33:66), was fed to a control group. The dietary BSF larvae did not modify feed intake or whole body lipid content. Despite the high content of saturated fatty acids in the insect‐based diets, the apparent digestibility coefficients of all fatty acids were high. There was a decrease in liver triacylglycerols of salmon fed the insect‐based diets compared to the fish fed the control diet. This is likely due to the rapid oxidation and low deposition of the medium‐chain fatty acid lauric acid.  相似文献

Aquaculture fish diets usually contain an addition of fish oil to improve their nutritional value. The effect of the replacement of dietary fish oil (FO) by sunflower oil (SfO) on growth, fatty acid composition and expression of genes implicated in somatic growth, feed intake and fatty acid metabolism was studied in pejerrey fry. Fry were fed per 45 days with diets containing FO/SfO ratios of 100% FO; 50% FO:50% SfO; 20% FO:80% SfO; and 100% SfO. No differences were detected in growth and in the total per cent of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids. Gh, ghr‐I and ghr‐II showed a higher mRNA expression in head and trunk of fry fed with 100% SfO diet. Expression of igf‐II was higher in trunk of fry fed with 100% SfO diet compared with 100% FO diet. The Δ6‐desaturase gene expression was upregulated in head and trunk of fry fed with 100% SfO diet. The nucb2/nesfatin‐1 gene expression decreased in the trunk of fry with increasing dietary SfO. We conclude that the replacement of fish oil by sunflower oil in pejerrey fry feed does not affect growth and is a viable strategy to reduce production costs of this fish.  相似文献

A 70 days feeding trial was carried out on juvenile gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) (mean initial body weight: 362 ± 59 g) to evaluate whether the simultaneous replacement of fishmeal and fish oil by vegetable ingredients affected the muscle's proteolytic potential. Fish were fed either a fishmeal/fish oil diet, a fishmeal/vegetable oil diet, a plant protein/fish oil or a plant protein/vegetable oil diet. The use of dietary plant proteins resulted in lower sulphated glycosaminoglycans' content and lower glycogen phosphorylase activity in the muscle, while both plant proteins and vegetable oil increased muscle pH and reduced cathepsin B activity. Our results indicate that high replacement of fish meal and/or fish oil with plant ingredients has a significant impact on early postmortem metabolic processes and proteolytic potential of seabream muscle, especially when replacing both fish meal and fish oil.  相似文献

This study was designed to investigate effects of dietary Chlorella meal (CM) additive on growth performance, immune responses and appetite regulation of juvenile crucian carp Carassius auratus (initial body weight: 1.27 ± 0.03 g). Four experimental diets were formulated to contain 0% (CM0), 1% (CM1), 2% (CM2) and 4% Chlorella meal (CM4), respectively. Each diet was randomly assigned to triplicate groups with 40 juvenile fish per fibreglass tank for 8 weeks. Weight gain rate, specific growth rate and feed intake increased with increasing dietary CM levels. In contrast, FCR (feed conversion rate) declined with dietary CM levels. No significant differences were observed in moisture, crude protein, crude lipid and ash contents of muscle and liver tissues. Dietary CM addition increased activities of acid and alkaline phosphatase in liver and kidney. Dietary CM up‐regulated the mRNA expression levels of NKEF‐B, MCHII and IgM in kidney, and increased the mRNA levels of NPY and agouti gene‐related protein in the brain, but down‐regulated mRNA levels of MC4R, LEP, LEPR, CART1, CART2 and CCK8 genes. Based on these observations above, this study indicated that dietary CM additive increased growth performance, immune responses and appetite of crucian carp. The results, for the first time, demonstrate a role for the central nervous system in the control of food intake in fish fed dietary Chlorella meal.  相似文献

The suitability of land animal by‐products (ABPs) in feed for Atlantic salmon postsmolts (initial weight 372 g) in sea water was studied in a feeding experiment, using poultry by‐product meal (PBM) and porcine blood meal (BM) as protein sources and poultry oil as fat source. Four extruded feeds were tested in a 2 * 2 factorial model, with or without ABP protein sources and with or without poultry oil. The control feed contained a mix of marine and plant ingredients. Initial feed intake was highest in the ABP protein‐based diets, whereas poultry oil had a weak opposite effect. No differences were seen in growth rate or body weight. Addition of PBM and BM led to increased FCR, and lower retention of crude protein and energy. This could be explained by lower digestibility of amino acids and crude protein, and a slightly lower energy level in these diets. Reduced igf1 mRNA levels in liver and muscle were seen in fish fed dietary ABP protein and oil. Despite lower protein digestibility of ABP protein, this study confirms the suitability of ABP protein and lipid in combination with plant ingredients in feed for Atlantic salmon growers.  相似文献

Soya bean meal‐based formulated feeds have recently become available for snakehead culture in Vietnam. This study was conducted to determine the appropriate replacement of fish meal (FM) protein by another soya product, soya protein concentrate (SPC), in snakehead (Channa striata) diets. Five iso‐nitrogenous (45% crude protein) and iso‐caloric (19 KJ g?1) practical diets were formulated to replace 0% (control), 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% of protein FM by protein SPC (100% FM, 40% SPC, 60% SPC, 80% SPC and 100% SPC respectively). A digestibility experiment was also conducted with the same formulated diets with addition of 1% chromic oxide. Fish fed 100% FM and 40% SPC diets had significantly better growth and survival compared with other treatments. Feed intake, feed conversion ratio, protein efficiency ratio and net protein utilization, trypsin and chymotrypsin activities of experimental fish fed 100% FM and 40% SPC diets were significantly higher than those fed other diets. The apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) of the diet and diet components, ADCdiet, ADCprotein and ADClipid, of fish fed diet 40% SPC and 100% FM treatment were significantly higher than those of other treatments. The cost/kg fish produced in diets 100% FM and 40% SPC was much lower compared with other treatments. Dietary inclusion levels of SPC in diet above 40% significantly affected fish survival, growth, digestibility and trypsin and chymotrypsin activities, although fish chemical composition was not greatly affected.  相似文献

The clamworm Perinereis aibuhitensis is a commercially important polychaete in China, but knowledge about the nutritional demands of this species is limited. In this study, the effects of five lipid sources in the diet, namely fish oil (FO), soyabean oil (SO), rapeseed oil (RO), cottonseed oil (CO) and mixed vegetable oil (MO), on growth, whole‐body composition and antioxidant parameters of juvenile P. aibuhitensis were evaluated. The results showed that clamworms fed the CO diet had higher specific growth rate (SGR) and protein efficiency ratio (PER) than the other treatments. The accumulation of longer‐chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) was observed in P. aibuhitensis, suggesting that P. aibuhitensis had the ability to elongate and desaturate PUFAs with 18C to form longer‐chain PUFAs. The values of n‐3/n‐6 in clamworms fed vegetable oil diets (ranged from 0.20 to 0.31) were much closer to the recommended values for human food compared with FO diet (2.47). Analysis of the antioxidant parameters revealed that clamworms fed the CO diet suffered lower peroxidation burden than those fed FO diet. These results suggested that cottonseed oil is a suitable lipid source for P. aibuhitensis feeds.  相似文献

A digestibility and a growth trial were conducted in this study respectively. Firstly, the apparent digestibility coefficients (ADC) of nutrients and energy in meat and bone meal, porcine meal (PM), hydrolysed feather meal, poultry by‐products meal, fishmeal (FM), soybean meal and spray‐dried blood meal were determined. In experiment 2, an 8‐week growth trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of the substitution of FM by PM under the digestible ideal protein concept at two protein levels in the diets of Japanese seabass, Lateolabrax japonicus. A FM‐based control diet (FM diet; FM: 320 g kg?1, crude protein: 434.9 g kg?1, crude lipid: 124.6 g kg?1) and three other diets were formulated to contain 115 g kg?1 PM and only 160 g kg?1 FM. Two diets were formulated on a crude protein basis without (PM diet) or with (PMA diet) essential amino acid (EAA) supplementation respectively. A low‐protein diet was designed (LPMA diet, crude protein: 400.9 g kg?1, crude lipid: 96.3 g kg?1) with the same level of FM and PM but with the same digestible protein/ digestible energy and EAA profile as the FM diet. The results showed that nitrogen and total amino acid digestibility of the tested ingredients were ranged from 85.6% to 95.5% and from 87.6% to 95.5% respectively. Apparent digestibility coefficients of protein for FM and PM were 91.2% and 95.9% respectively. In the growth trial, the weight gain rate and feed conversion ratio of fish fed the PMA diet did not show a significant difference from those of the control group, but were significantly higher than those of the PM and LPMA groups (P<0.05). Growth was related linearly to lysine and methionine intakes. It was shown that PM could be utilized in the Japanese seabass diet up to 115 g kg?1 to replace about 160 g kg?1 of FM protein under an ideal protein profile. Essential amino acid deficiency (diet PM) or a lower protein level despite having an ideal amino acid profile (diet LPMA) could not support the optimal growth of Japanese seabass.  相似文献

A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of inclusion of Sesbania leaf meal in the diet of Cyprinus carpio as a replacer of de‐oiled rice bran (DORB). Bacillus subtilis was used to ferment the Sesbania leaf meal (SLM) to produce FSLM (fermented sesbania leaf meal). Fishes were fed with five isonitrogenous (30% CP) and isocaloric diets for 60 days and treatments were viz., C (30% DORB, 0% SLM), R15 (15% DORB, 15% SLM), R30 (0% DORB, 30% SLM), F15 (15% DORB, 15%FSLM) and F30 (0% DORB, 30% FSLM) by replacing DORB with SLM. A similar growth performance with control was observed in 15% FSLM group while there was a growth reduction in all the raw leaf meal fed groups. Similarly, the expression of insulin‐like growth factor‐1 (IGF‐1) was significantly (p < .05) higher in control and 15% FSLM fed groups. Growth and metabolic enzymes such as protease, amylase, ALT and AST activities were significantly higher in the fermented leaf meal fed groups compared to their non‐fermented counterparts. Antioxidant enzymes, serum transaminase enzymes (SGOT, SGPT) and total bilirubin (TBR) were found to be increased by enhanced level of RSLM, however, reduced by inclusion of FSLM. However, 30% inclusion level of FSLM even after fermentation showed detrimental effect on growth and metabolic response at cellular and molecular level. Thus, the results concluded that fermented Sesbania leaf meal (FSLM) using B. subtilis could replace 50% DORB (15% FSLM group) in the diet of C. carpio without affecting the growth and other physiological responses.  相似文献

Apparent digestibility coefficients (ADCs) of dry matter, crude protein, crude lipid, gross energy, phosphorus and amino acids in Peruvian fish meal, poultry by‐product meal, meat and bone meal, spray‐dried blood meal, hydrolysed feather meal, corn gluten meal, soybean meal, peanut meal, cottonseed meal and rapeseed meal were determined for juvenile snakehead (Ophiocephalus argus) with initial mean body weight of 78.1 g. A reference diet and test diets that consisted of a 70 : 30 mixture of the reference diet to test ingredient were used with 5 g kg?1 Cr2O3 as an external indicator. Fish meal, poultry by‐product meal and corn gluten meal had higher ADCs of dry matter, crude protein, and gross energy among ingredients tested. Dry matter ADCs ranged 61.9–81.5% for animal ingredients and corn gluten meal and ranged 52.2–68.0% for soybean meal, peanut meal, cottonseed meal and rapeseed meal. Energy ADCs of ingredients followed similar trends to differences in dry matter digestibility. Protein ADCs of animal and plant ingredients ranged 73.6–92.8% and 75.3–85.6%, respectively. Amino acid ADCs generally reflected protein digestibility. Lipid ADCs were relatively high for the ingredients tested. Phosphorus ADCs of animal and plant ingredients ranged 39.5–65.2% and 38.7–57.1%, respectively.  相似文献

Seven isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets containing fish meal (FM) protein replaced by corn gluten meal (CGM) protein at 0% (the control, C0), 10% (C10), 20% (C20), 30% (C30), 40% (C40), 50% (C50) and 60% (C60) were fed to juvenile Pseudobagrus ussuriensis for 8‐weeks to evaluate the effects of FM protein replaced by CGM protein on growth, feed utilization, nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) excretion and IGF‐I gene expression of juvenile P. ussuriensis. The results showed that the replacement level up to 40% did not affect the weight gain, specific growth rate (SGR), feed intake and protein efficiency ratio, whereas these parameters were depressed by further replacement level. Apparent digestibility coefficients (ADC) of dry matter, crude protein significantly decreased, but ADC of phosphorus significantly increased with increasing dietary CGM levels (< .05). Fish fed diets with FM protein replaced by CGM protein led to an increase in nitrogen excretion, but led to a reduction in phosphorus excretion. No significant differences were observed in alpha‐amylase and lipase activities of intestine (> .05). The lowest pepsin activity was found in C60 group. Fish fed diet C40, C50 and C60 had significantly lower serum lysozyme activity compared with fish fed diet C0 (< .05). The lowest plasma alkaline phosphatase activity and the highest plasma alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase activities were observed in C60 group. Fish fed diet C60 had significantly lower hepatic IGF‐I gene expression compared with fish fed diet C10 (< .05). Broken‐line model analysis based on SGR against the CGM substitution level indicated that the appropriate replacement level was 37.7%.  相似文献

This experiment was designed to investigate the effects of dietary valine on the growth performance, feed utilization, digestive enzymes, serum antioxidant and immune indices of juvenile Trachinotus ovatus and determine its valine requirement. Six diets with different concentrations of L‐valine (15.0, 16.6, 18.6, 20.7, 23.5 and 25.4 g/kg dry diet, defined as diet Val‐1 to Val‐6.), were formulated to contain 430 g/kg crude protein with fish meal, soybean meal, peanut meal and precoated crystalline amino acids. Each diet was randomly assigned to triplicate treatments of 20 fish (the initial body weight was 5.34 ± 0.03 g) for 8 weeks. The results indicated that the final body weight and percent weight gain (PWG) increased with increasing valine concentration up to 18.6 g/kg (diet Val‐3), whereas the diets containing higher valine concentration reduced the growth performance significantly (p < .05). Moreover, the protein efficiency ratio, body protein deposition (BPD), muscle protein content, intestinal amylase and pepsin activities, serum T‐AOC, LZM activities, IgM, complement 3 and complement 4 concentration had a similar trend with PWG, and the trend of feed conversion ratio, serum AST, ALT activities, urea and MDA content was opposite. Meanwhile, the lipid contents of whole fish and muscle in diet Val‐6 were particularly lower than other diets (p < .05). The survival rate of diet Val‐1 was lowest in this study and was significantly lower than diet Val‐2 (p < .05). The results of polynomial regression based on PWG and BPD indicated that the optimal dietary valine requirement for Trachinotus ovatus reared in seawater‐floating net cages was 19.87–20.17 g/kg valine of dry diet, correspondingly 46.22–46.91 g/kg of dietary protein.  相似文献
