ABSTRACT:   Feeding habits of Favonigobius gymnauchen , Repomucenus spp. and Tarphops oligolepis were examined during the period from May to August in 1999, 2000 and 2001 at a sandy beach in the central Seto Inland Sea, Japan. The three species of fish accounted for more than 60% of all fish collected in terms of number of individuals. All three species mainly consumed small crustaceans. However, the major prey of F .  gymnauchen and Repomucenus spp. differed from that of T .  oligolepis . F .  gymnauchen and Repomucenus spp. mainly consumed mysids and small crangonid shrimp (<12 mm in body length), which predominated in the study area. T .  oligolepis actively selected only epifaunal mysids Nipponomysis ornata and avoided crangonid shrimp and gammarids . The frequencies of occurrence of fish in the guts of the three dominant species were very low, and larval and juvenile Japanese flounder were not observed in any of the three fish species. The diet of juvenile Japanese flounder was similar to that of the three species. From these results, it appears that these three fish are competing species for the flounder.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:     To estimate the daily rations of Paralichthys olivaceus , Tarphops oligolepis and Favonigobius gymnauchen and to clarify diel variation in food availability to them, diel sampling was conducted over a 24-h period at a sandy beach in the Seto Inland Sea, Japan. The mean total length and body weight (BW) of P. olivaceus , T. oligolepis and F. gymnauchen were 32.6 mm (0.35 g), 23.7 mm (0.13 g) and 50.2 mm (1.03 g), respectively. The mean stomach contents index and percentages of stomachs with food were high during the day but low at night, indicating that these species are day-feeders. Paralichthys olivaceus and F. gymnauchen consumed mainly mysids and crangonids, whereas T. oligolepis fed chiefly on mysids. The estimated mean daily rations (95% confidence intervals) for P. olivaceus , T. oligolepis and F. gymnauchen made with the bootstrap method were 18.1 (9.3–31.3)%BW, 13.2 (7.9–24.3)%BW and 3.7 (1.7–7.4)%BW, respectively. Mysids were more abundant in the near-bottom layer during the day than at night, but the opposite was true for crangonids.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   The abundance of food organisms and feeding habits of larval and juvenile Japanese flounder were examined during the period from May to August in 1999, 2000 and 2001 at the sandy Ohama beach, the central Seto Inland Sea. The food organisms collected with a sledge net consisted of 40 families from 18 orders, dominated by mysids, crangonids and gammarids. The mean densities of mysids, crangonid shrimp ( Crangon spp.), gammarids and fish were 2.74, 6.74, 2.91 and 0.15 individuals/m2, respectively. The main prey of the flounder ( n  = 202; range of total length 9.80–75.95 mm) was mysids and small crangonid shrimp (<14 mm in body length). Prey fish availability was low, as the density of fish was low. The small crangonid shrimp was abundant, and the large crangonid shrimp, which could prey on larval flounder, was not abundant. The crangonid shrimp was important not as a predator for the flounder but as prey. The flounder preferred epifaunal mysids, Nipponomysis ornata and Anisomysis ijimai , to sand-burrowing mysids, Iiella oshimai , and avoided crangonid shrimp.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   The species composition of demersal fish was studied in nearshore waters (33–116 m depth) of south-eastern Hokkaido, the coldest area around the Japan Archipelago due to the influence of the cold Oyashio Current, using bottom gillnet samples collected during October 1996, August 1997, May 1998 and September 1999. The water temperature just above the sea bottom in the study area was lowest (< 2°C) during May and then rose through autumn (> 14°C). Cottids were the most abundant family in terms of both overall biomass and number, but their gravimetric dominance decreased from May (84%) through October (14%), whereas pleuronectids and stichaeids increased. Of the 57 fish species sampled, plain sculpin Myoxocephalus jaok was the dominant species in terms of overall biomass, accounting for 29.0% of the total biomass, followed by horned sculpin Enophrys diceraus (19.5%), Kamchatka flounder Atheresthes evermanni (6.5%) and blackline prickleback Acantholumpenus mackayi (4.9%). Plain sculpin dominated during May and September, but its predominance was low during October (9.6%), when witch flounder Glyptocephalus stelleri (22.7%) and blackline prickleback (10.8%) became important. This seasonal change appears to reflect the annual life cycle events of the fish, such as spawning.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   Wild adult maturing and immature female Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus were collected in June 2004 and January 2005, respectively, to clarify a possible role of gonadotropin-releasing hormones (GnRHs) in reproduction. Levels of salmon GnRH (sGnRH), chicken GnRH-II (cGnRH-II) and sea bream GnRH (sbGnRH) in the brain and pituitary were examined by time-resolved fluoroimmunoassay. Three forms of GnRHs were detected in the discrete brain at various levels. In the pituitary of both maturing and immature fish, sbGnRH was abundant together with a pronounced amount of sGnRH, whereas cGnRH-II was almost below the detectable limit. In maturing fish, levels of sbGnRH were high in the telencephalon, hypothalamus and pituitary, while levels of sbGnRH of immature fish were very low in these regions. These results indicate that sbGnRH is mainly responsible for gonadotropin secretion, and that sbGnRH in the anterior part of the brain is associated with gonadal maturation in the Japanese flounder.  相似文献

The olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus is one of the most commercially important fish species in Korea. In order to formulate better diets for cultured olive flounder we evaluated the optimum dietary protein requirements for larval, fry and juvenile olive flounder, and the optimum dietary protein to energy ratio for juvenile olive flounder. Results of four separate experiments suggested that the optimum dietary protein requirements were 60% in larvae (0.3 g), 46.4–51.2% in 4.1-g juvenile, and 40–44% in 13.3 g growing olive flounder. The optimum dietary protein to energy ratio based on weight gain, feed efficiency, specific growth rate, and protein retention efficiency was 27–28 mg protein/kJ 2 energy (35 and 45% CP for diets containing 12.5 and 16.7 kJ energylg diet, respectively).  相似文献

Onset and development, and diel rhythm of aggressive behavior were observed in the early life stages of Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus . The frequency of nip was counted as an index of aggressive behavior. No aggressive behavior was observed during the larval stage until day 39 after hatching (when fish were 13.2 mm in standard length (SL)) in the experimental tanks. The onset of aggressive behavior was observed on day 39, coinciding with completion of metamorphosis from the larval to the juvenile stage, and it developed until day 46. During the metamorphosing stage, typical shivering behavior (Ohm (Ω)-posture) was observed, and it showed a peak on day 19 (SL 7.6 mm) and decreased thereafter. Ω-Posture disappeared in the juvenile stage. Aggressive behavior and Ω-posture were only observed in the daytime. Settlement was first observed from day 19 in less than 30% of larvae and all individuals settled from day 39. As Ω-posture was observed regardless of the presence or absence of food and the peak of frequency in Ω-posture was observed in a specific stage of metamorphosis, this behavior is not related to feeding behavior, and it is possibly a precursor to aggressive behavior in this species.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:     The acute toxicities of boron were examined for Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus and red sea bream Pagrus major in terms of fish size and water temperature. Japanese flounder of 0.1–70.0 g and red sea bream of 0.6–20.3 g were exposed to different concentrations of boron for 96 h at 20°C under semi-static conditions. In both fish species, the median lethal concentration (LC50) for 96 h of boron increased linearly with increasing fish size, ranging from 108 to 252 mg B/L for the flounder, and from 97 to 172 mg B/L for the sea bream. The effect of water temperature on acute toxicity was examined for Japanese flounder of 0.6 and 1.5 g at 10, 15, 20 and 25°C, and for red sea bream of 0.6 and 2.4 g at 12, 15, 20 and 25°C. The toxicity of boron for the flounder increased linearly with increasing water temperature. The 96 h LC50 values ranged from 299 to 108 mg B/L for the 0.6 g flounder and from 350 to 113 mg B/L for the 1.5 g flounder. A similar trend was shown for the 2.4 g red sea bream; however, the relationship for the 0.6 g red sea bream was not significant.  相似文献

Turbot iridovirus (TBIV), a member of the genus Megalocytivirus in the family Iridoviridae, was isolated from diseased turbot, Psetta maximus (L.), in Korea in 2003. In this study, experimental infection of turbot, Japanese flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus (Temminck & Schlegel), and rock bream, Oplegnathus fasciatus (Temminck & Schlegel), with TBIV was performed to evaluate the viral susceptibility of these fish species. After virus exposure, the mortalities of turbot reared at 22 and 25 degrees C were 60% and 100%, respectively, suggesting that TBIV is the causative agent of the mass mortality of turbot that occurred in Korea in 2003. Moreover, TBIV was detected in Japanese flounder and rock bream by polymerase chain reaction after experimental infection (26 days post-inoculation) despite no viral pathogenicity in these fish, suggesting that these two fish species are also susceptible to the virus. It is possible that horizontal transmission of TBIV occurs among these three fish species because turbot is routinely cultured with Japanese flounder and rock bream in Korea.  相似文献

The present study was undertaken to examine the antibacterial abilities of intestinal bacteria isolated from juveniles and larvae of Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus . Newly hatched larvae of flounder were held in a 100 L plastic circular tank and fed rotifiers, Artemia nauplii and commercial feeds, depending on the developmental stage of the fish. Genera Aeromonas , Moraxella and Vibrio were predominantly isolated from the intestinal tracts of Japanese flounder at larval and juvenile stages, whereas Aeromonas , Bacillus , coryneforms, Moraxella , Pseudomonas and Vibrio were detected at high densities in live diets and artificial feeds. Antibacterial bacteria accounted for 1.7–24.3% of the intestinal isolates against Lactococcus garvieae , Pasteurella piscicida , Vibrio anguillarum and V. vulnificus . In particular, as much as 53.3% of Vibrio spp. other than Vibrio -swarmer isolated from 197-day-old juveniles inhibited the growth of P. piscicida . These results suggest that intestinal bacteria having antibacterial activity play a role in the prevention of infectious diseases.  相似文献

牙鲆抗鳗弧菌病家系筛选及其分析   总被引:4,自引:3,他引:1  
2007年以从养殖牙鲆(Paralichthys olivaceus)中筛选出的抗病选育群体、从日本引进的日本群体以及从黄海捕捞的野生群体为基础,进行各种组合方式的交配,建立了63个牙鲆家系;2008年又建立了30个家系。对2007年培育的59个家系和2008年培育的30个家系进行了鳗弧菌(Vibrio anguillarum)感染实验,结果表明,不同家系间的抗病力存在极显著的差异(P0.01)。从2007年培育的59个家系中筛选出4个抗病家系,鳗弧菌感染后存活率达到50%以上;2008年的30个家系中5个家系抗病力较强,鳗弧菌感染后的存活率达到60%以上。2008年培育的30个家系其4月龄和6月龄的感染后存活率的相关系数为0.403(P0.05),表明不同生长时期的感染结果具有一致性。230d的体长和体质量与对鳗弧菌的抗病力存在显著的相关关系(P0.05),皮尔森相关系数分别为0.282和0.237。研究发现,日本群体与抗病选育群体的杂交后代抗病性能表现优异,可以通过日本群体与中国群体间的杂交进行遗传改良,达到培育出高产、抗病牙鲆新品种的目的。  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   The tail beat and activity behavior of four captive Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus , were monitored with acceleration data-loggers while the fish swam in an aquarium. Depth, swimming speeds and two-axis acceleration data were collected continuously for approximately 20 h per fish. Simultaneously, the swimming behaviors of the fish were filmed at different angles. Using the specific characteristic of the acceleration profiles, in tandem with other types of data (e.g. speed and depth), four behavioral patterns could be distinguished: (i) 'active' swimming; (ii) burying patterns; (iii) 'inactive' gliding; and (iv) lying on the bottom. Tail beat frequency ranged from 1.65 ± 0.47 to 2.04 ± 0.25 Hz (mean ± SD; n  = 4). Using the relationship between tail beat frequency and swimming speed, the 'preferred' swimming speed of the fish was estimated to be between 0.6 and 1.2 body lengths (BL)/s. Additionally, fish rarely swam faster than 1.2 BL/s. This study shows that the acceleration data-loggers represent a useful and reliable system for accurately recording the tail beat of free-ranging fish and estimating flatfish behavior.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   To determine the growth performances and habitat characteristics of spotted halibut Verasper variegatus , successive samplings were conducted in the south-eastern coastal area of Shimabara Peninsula in Ariake Bay. The push-net samplings were performed at Kamaga beach from May 2003 to April 2004 to determine the horizontal distribution of larvae and juveniles, while the gill net samplings were done in the coastal waters of Tatsuishi beach from July 2003 to July 2004 to collect the larger juveniles and adults. A total of 478 individuals from metamorphosing larvae to 2-year-old fish (15.2–447.0 mm total length [TL]) were sampled. In particular, the 2003-year class fish were successively collected from May 2003 to June 2004 (15.2–350.0 mm TL; n  = 418) and the mean total length in March, June, September, December 2003 and May 2004 was 22.4, 82.5, 172.5, 203.9 and 296.4 mm, respectively. The present study found that metamorphosing larvae migrated into the estuarine tidal flats during March 2003; newly settled juveniles inhabited the shallow intertidal areas; and juveniles had a remarkably high growth in shallow coastal areas. It is suggested that young fish around 300 mm TL migrated from the nursery grounds in Ariake Bay to deeper waters around Tachibana Bay during May–June 2004.  相似文献

采用MiSeq 16S rRNA高通量测序技术和生物信息学分析方法,构建了牙鲆(Paralichthys olivaceus)工厂化人工育苗模式下仔稚幼鱼阶段6个不同发育时期18个样品的16SrRNA基因测序文库,共获得7462个OTU (Operational Taxonomic Unit),分类为42个菌门972个菌属.对肠道菌群的形成过程及结构多样性变化分析显示,牙鲆初孵仔鱼的菌群组成多样性丰富,体内的优势菌为变形菌门(Proteobacteria)、厚壁菌门(Firmicutes)和拟杆菌门(Bacteroidetes);在9日龄和21日龄摄食轮虫(Rotifer)和卤虫(Artemia sp.)幼体样品中,肠道的优势菌群结构较单一,变形菌门成为此时期肠道的优势菌群;45日龄摄食配合饲料后,肠道中变形菌门的相对丰度显著降低,厚壁菌门和拟杆菌门的相对丰度明显增大,成为肠道菌群的优势菌群.在属水平的菌群结构中发现,牙鲆仔稚幼鱼肠道优势菌群的种类和数量都发生了较大变化,在9日龄和21日龄时期肠道中弧菌属(Vibrio)相对丰度最高,到45日龄后相对丰度锐减到最低水平;拟杆菌属(Bacteroides)和普氏菌属(Prevotella)在80日龄后达到较高水平,成为肠道优势菌属;厚壁菌门的8个菌属在80-115日龄时期均发展成为优势菌属,定植于牙鲆的肠道.本研究揭示了工厂化人工育苗模式下牙鲆仔稚幼鱼肠道菌群结构及演替规律.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   Fast skeletal muscles of Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus and red sea bream Pagrus major were examined for quantitative and qualitative changes of mitochondrial ATP synthase (FoF1-ATPase) in association with rearing temperatures. The specific activities of FoF1-ATPase from Japanese flounder reared at 10°C, 15°C and 25°C for 4 weeks were determined to be 81 ± 11, 74 ± 13 and 83 ± 11 nmol/min·mg mitochondrial protein, respectively. The corresponding activity from red sea bream reared at 8°C for 5 weeks was determined to be 65 ± 9 nmol/min·mg mitochondrial protein, which was higher than 33 ± 9 nmol/min·mg mitochondrial protein in fish reared at 23°C. The contents of α- and β-F1-ATPase in total mitochondrial proteins were not significantly different between fish reared at different temperatures for the two fish species. However, the contents of β-F1-ATPase in the total fast skeletal muscle extracts, prepared from Japanese flounder reared at 10°C, were 2.1- and 2.9-fold higher than those for fish reared at 15°C and 25°C, respectively. The corresponding content from red seabream reared at 8°C was 2.2-fold higher than that for fish reared at 23°C. Therefore, the changes in FoF1-ATPase depending on rearing temperatures were species-specific.  相似文献

The spatial and temporal occurrence of pelagic fish stages and their biological variability may affect their dispersal and survival, and ultimately fish recruitment. We collected Atlantic cod larvae at one station inside and at one station outside the Gullmar Fjord, eastern Skagerrak, in order to investigate small-scale larval group differentiation. Rectangular midwater trawl hauls were taken every 6 h (during 24 h) from three separate depth intervals between the surface and 70 m depth. About 80% and 20% of all larvae occurred above the halocline at the Fjord station and the Coastal station, respectively. Hatching (at both stations) occurred from the 3rd week in February to the 1st week in May, indicating that cod larvae were present for at least 5 months (from late February to early August). The length and hatch date frequency distributions of larvae from the surface layer were unimodal inside the fjord but bimodal outside the fjord. Analyses of seven microsatellite DNA loci indicated that larvae collected inside the fjord (where local spawning occurs) were genetically distinct from larvae sampled on the outside (FST = 0.0026). The two age cohorts outside the fjord were not, however, genetically different, nor were larvae collected at different depths. We conclude that small-scale variability of vertical concentration and larval life history variability should have consequences for interpreting models of larval dispersal and survival, and subpopulation structure analyses.  相似文献

To determine the distribution of marine birnavirus (MABV) in cultured populations of different marine fish species, 1291 pooled tissue samples from 2672 fish belonging to 22 species and one hybrid were collected from Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, during 1999-2001. Using cell-culture MABV was isolated from three species: yellowtail, Seriola quinqueradiata Temminck & Schlegel (positive number/sample number, 10/419), amberjack, S. dumerili (Risso) (4/72), and Japanese flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus (Temminck & Schlegel) (41/481). Using PCR on MABV-negative samples, the MABV genome was detected in the same three species [yellowtail (9/409), amberjack (4/68) and Japanese flounder (93/440)] and two additional species, spotted halibut, Verasper variegatus (Temminck & Schlegel) (5/11), and goldstriped amberjack, S. lalandi Valenciennes (1/5). These MABV-positive species can be taxonomically divided into two groups: the genus Seriola and flatfish. In Japanese flounder, MABV was detected during all seasons, and the infection rate was correlated with water temperature. Aquaculture sites with MABV-positive fish were evenly distributed over the surveyed area, suggesting that MABV is widely distributed at aquaculture sites in Kagawa Prefecture. The nucleotide sequence at the variable region, the VP2/NS junction, revealed that the 39th base mutation occurs host-specifically for flatfish. Flatfish are suspected to be the main reservoir of MABV and might be responsible for establishing the infection cycle in aquaculture environments.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   To investigate the changes in maternal effects during early development in Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus , four-by-four factorial mating by artificial fertilization was performed to produce 16 families. Larvae and juveniles of each family were reared under common environmental conditions until completion of metamorphosis. The magnitude of maternal effects was estimated as the differences between sire and dam variance. Maternal effects were highest at hatching, and then disappeared at 30 days after hatching. During early development, larval size at hatching was largely affected by egg size, but this effect decreased as larvae grew. Estimated mean heritability during early development was nearly constant (0.14 ± 0.06 for total length and 0.10 ± 0.05 for body depth). Therefore, it is suggested that early development in Japanese flounder is affected by both maternal effect and genetic factors.  相似文献

Abstract –  The reproductive activities of two dominant fish species, roach Rutilus rutilus and rudd Scardinius erythrophthalmus were investigated from August 2000 to July 2002 in an oligotrophic lake, Lake Sapanca, in the northwest of Turkey. A total of 907 roach and 593 rudd individuals were examined. Macroscopic appearance of ovary, gonadosomatic index and oocyte diameter frequency distribution suggested that the spawning season of roach and rudd were from early April (13 °C) to late May (18 °C) and from early May (17.5 °C) to late June (23.5 °C), respectively. The spawning cycles of both species showed the same tendency in two successive years. The estimated mean total lengths at first maturity ( L T50) were 12.26 and 14.98 cm for male and female roach, respectively, and 7.12 and 8.10 cm for male and female rudd, respectively. The sizes at 50% maturity corresponded to 3 years for roach and 1 year for rudd, for both sexes. The ratio of males to females was 1.3:1 and 1.2:1 for roach and rudd, respectively. The average condition factor K was 1.21 for rudd and 1.14 for roach, and it was not affected by sex or reproductive effort. Absolute fecundity varied from 7829 to 95,387 eggs between ages 3 and 9 for roach and from 1807 to 35,629 eggs between ages 1 and 7 for rudd. Comparisons of these results with earlier studies from more northern regions revealed that spawning of both species in this area started earlier, but spawning temperature and the duration of spawning was approximately the same.  相似文献

The requirement for taurine in juvenile Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus was determined by feeding diets containing various levels of taurine and cystine. Test diets supplemented with 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5% of taurine or with 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5% of L -cystine were prepared. The basal diet contained 55% protein from white fish meal. These diets were fed to juvenile Japanese flounder with an initial mean bodyweight of 0.9 g (total length (TL) 48 mm) for 5 weeks. Approximately 1.4% taurine content in the diet was required for optimum growth of juvenile flounder. A positive linear relationship was noted between the content of taurine accumulated in the muscle, liver and brain and the level of taurine in the diet. However, there was no increased taurine content in tissues of fish fed the cystine-supplemented diet. In contrast, the fish fed control and cystine-supplemented diets showed higher contents of cystathionine in the tissues. The concentration of cystathionine in tissues rapidly decreased with an increase of taurine in the diet. It was also observed that for each of the dietary groups, a trace amount of taurine was excreted. These results suggest that the taurine content in the diet affects the sulfur amino acid metabolism of juvenile Japanese flounder, and indicate that juvenile flounder are unable to biosynthesize taurine from cystine.  相似文献
