Monoclonal integration of bovine leukemia virus (BLV) proviral DNA into bovine genomes
was detected in peripheral blood from two clinical cases of enzootic bovine leukosis (EBL)
without enlargement of superficial lymph nodes. A BLV-specific probe hybridized with 1 to
3 EcoRI and HindIII fragments in these 2 atypical EBL
cattle by Southern blotting and hybridization, as well as in 3 typical EBL cattle. The
probe also hybridized to a large number of EcoRI and
HindIII fragments in 5 cattle with persistent leukosis. These results
suggest that the detection of monoclonal integration of BLV provirus into the host genome
may serve as a marker of monoclonal proliferation and malignancy in difficult to diagnose

We examined the effects of chicken egg hydrolysate (also known as “bone peptide” or BP)
on bone metabolism in 5- to 8-month-old orchidectomized dogs. The bone formation marker
serum bone alkaline phosphatase (BAP) and the bone resorption marker urine
deoxypyridinoline (DPD) were used as indicators to measure changes in bone metabolism. The
following results were observed that Serum BAP was higher in dogs fed BP-enriched food
throughout the clinical investigation. Serum BAP was statistically significantly higher in
dogs fed BP-enriched food than in dogs fed non-BP-enriched food at 2 months after
orchidectomy. This suggests that BP promoted bone formation immediately after

Hypoxic conditions in various cancers are believed to relate with their
malignancy, and hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) has been shown to be a major
regulator of the response to low oxygen. In this study, we examined HIF-1α expression in
canine lymphoma using cell lines and clinical samples and found that these cells expressed
HIF-1α. Moreover, the HIF-1α inhibitors, echinomycin, YC-1 and 2-methoxyestradiol,
suppressed the proliferation of canine lymphoma cell lines. In a xenograft model using
NOD/scid mice, echinomycin treatment resulted in a dose-dependent regression of the tumor.
Our results suggest that HIF-1α contributes to the proliferation and/or survival of canine
lymphoma cells. Therefore, HIF-1α inhibitors may be potential agents to treat canine

The major taste active component, glutamate (Glu), improves the taste of meat. In this study, we investigated the effect of a short‐term high‐protein (HCP) diet on the intramuscular free Glu content to improve the taste of meat. Furthermore, we elucidated how the muscle free Glu content was controlled by the HCP diet. Chicks (14 days old) were fed the control diet or HCP diet for 10 days. Plasma and muscle free amino acid concentrations, and activity and messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of muscle enzymes related to Glu metabolism were determined. Muscle free Glu content was increased (P < 0.01) by 51%. Activity and mRNA expression of glutaminase (GA), which is one of the major Glu‐related enzymes, were significantly decreased (P < 0.05) in the HCP group because of feedback inhibition. The mRNA expression of lysine α‐ketoglutarate reductase (LKR), which is the enzyme involved in lysine (Lys) degradation and Glu production, was significantly increased (P < 0.001) in the HCP group. These results suggest that short‐term dietary HCP feeding is an effective treatment for improving the taste of meat. Twenty-three lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from three cultivars (Akiaoba, Nagahahikari and Tachiwase) of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) silage were precisely characterized by a combination of phenotypic tests, genotypic 16S ribosomal DNA sequencing and rapid PCR-based analyses, focusing on their useful phenotypes for silage preparation as inoculants. We successfully identified both at the species and subspecies levels: phenotypically novel Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus coryniformis subsp. torquens, Lactobacillus curvatus, Lactobacillus plantarum subsp. plantarum, Lactobacillus sakei subsp. carnosus, Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. dextranicum and Pediococcus parvulus. This is the first report to elucidate the presence of Lactobacillus coryniformis ssp. torquens and Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. dextranicum in Italian ryegrass silages. Physiological and biochemical tests revealed that phenotypic characteristics are different among the different strains of the same species and subspecies, and that the isolates show unique and diverse phenotypes related to fermentation factors, such as available carbohydrates, optimal growth pH and temperature. These results suggest that, for various well-preserved silage preparations, the isolates may be useful in producing novel inoculants corresponding to their optimally climatic and ecological niches. 相似文献
