Due to increasing competition for water resources by urban, industrial, and agricultural users, the proportion of agricultural water use is gradually decreasing. To maintain or increase agricultural production, new irrigation systems, such as surface or subsurface drip irrigation systems, will need to provide higher water use efficiency than those traditionally used. Several models have been developed to predict the dimensions of wetting patterns, which are important to design optimal drip irrigation system, using variables such as the emitter discharge, the volume of applied water, and the soil hydraulic properties. In this work, we evaluated the accuracy of several approaches used to estimate wetting zone dimensions by comparing their predictions with field and laboratory data, including the numerical HYDRUS-2D model, the analytical WetUp software, and selected empirical models. The soil hydraulic parameters for the HYDRUS-2D simulations were estimated using either Rosetta for the laboratory experiments and inverse analysis for the field experiments. The mean absolute error (MAE) was used to compare the model predictions and observations of wetting zone dimensions. MAE for different experiments and directions varied from 0.87 to 10.43 cm for HYDRUS-2D, from 1 to 58.1 cm for WetUp, and from 1.34 to 12.24 cm for other empirical models.  相似文献

The wettability of Scots pine veneers was investigated with different approaches using the Wilhelmy plate method. The probe liquids were water and octane, which differ; in that, water is able to swell the wood sample, whereas octane does not. Novel approaches based on the Wilhelmy plate method to study wettability, liquid penetration, and swelling behavior of wood veneers are introduced. First, immersion to constant depth was performed, and liquid uptake with time was evaluated. Different kinetic regimes, the fastest one associated with contact angle changes and the slowest regime associated with liquid sorption by capillary and diffusion, were observed. Two other approaches, imbibition at constant depth (with initial deeper immersion) and full immersion, were utilized in order to keep the contact angle constant during measurements. Dynamic wettability studies were done by a multi-cycle (10–20 cycles) Wilhelmy method. Based on this, the time-dependent swelling of wood and changes in sample perimeter could be obtained. Generally, water showed higher absorption than octane. In all wettability studies, and for both probe liquids, the penetration process starts with a fast initial sorption, which is followed by swelling in the case of water.  相似文献

Melanoma is one of the most aggressive cancers of all solid tumors. The effect of angiotensin II on expression of three Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs) and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) in B16F10 melanoma cells was evaluated. Also the blocking effect of losartan on angiotensin II induced effects was assessed. B16F10 murine melanoma cells were cultured in RPMI-1640 medium supplemented with 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) and 24 h prior to experiment the serum free medium was used. Angiotensin II (0 M, 10(-10) M, 10(-9) M or 10(-8) M) alone or in combination with Losartan (10(-6) M) in RPMI-1640 replaced the medium for experiments. After the incubation time (0, 1, 2, 6 and 12 h) cells were harvested using 0.05% (w/v) Trypsin and then recovered by centrifugation. The expression of MMP-2, MMP-13, MMP-9 and VEGF in B16F10 cell lysate was assessed by immunoblotting. Angiotensin II significantly enhanced the expression of MMP-2, MMP-13 and VEGF by concentrations as low as 0.1 nM. But angiotensin II could not stimulate any significant increase in MMP-9 expression by angiotensin II in B16F10 cells. Losartan abolished the enhancing effect of every concentration of angiotensin II on MMP-2, MMP-13 and VEGF expression completely and in all incubation times. As a result, angiotensin II through activation of AT1 receptors can stimulate the expression of MMP-2, MMP-13 and VEGF in B16F10 melanoma cells. This is an important conclusion because of the importance of these factors in melanoma invasiveness and the possible important role that angiotensin receptor blockers may play as cancer medications.  相似文献

Canine mammary gland tumours (CMTs) constitute the most common cancer in female dogs and comprise approximately 50% of all canine cancers. With the advent of high-throughput technologies such as microarray and next-generation sequencing, the molecular phenotyping (classification) of various cancers has been extensively developed. The present study used a canine RNA-sequencing dataset, namely GSE119810, to classify 113 malignant CMTs and 64 matched normal samples via an unsupervised hierarchical algorithm with a view to evaluating the association between the resulting subtypes (clusters) (n = 4) and clinical and molecular characteristics. Finally, a molecular classifier was developed, and it detected 1 high-risk molecular subtype in the training dataset (GSE119810) and 2 independent validation datasets (GSE20718 and GSE22516). Our results revealed four molecular subtypes (C2–C5) in malignant CMTs. Furthermore, the normal samples constituted a distinct group in the clustering analysis. Marked significant associations were observed between the molecular subtypes (especially C5) and clinical/molecular features, including positive lymphatic invasion, high tumour grades, histopathology diagnoses, short survival and high TP53 mutation rates (ps <.05). The high-risk subtype (C5) was further characterized through the development of a cell cycle-based gene signature, which comprised 37 proliferation-related genes according to the support vector machine algorithm. This signature identified the high-risk group in both training and validation datasets (ps <.001). In the validation analysis, our potential classifier robustly predicted patients with positive lymphatic invasion, metastases and short survival.  相似文献

Due to the decreasing availability of water resources and the increasing competition for water between residential, industrial, and agricultural users, increasing irrigation efficiency, by methods like subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) systems, is a pressing concern for agricultural authorities. To properly manage SDI systems, and increase the efficiency of the water/fertilizer use while reducing water losses due to evaporation, the precise distribution of water around the emitters must be known. In this paper, the Windows-based computer software package HYDRUS-2D, which numerically simulates water, heat, and/or solute movement in two-dimensional, variably-saturated porous media, was used to evaluate the distribution of water around the emitter in a clay loam soil. The simulation results were compared with two sets of laboratory and field experiments involving SDI with emitters installed at different depths, and were evaluated using the root-mean-square-error (RMSE). The RMSE at different locations varied between 0.011 and 0.045 for volumetric water contents, and between 0.98 and 4.36 cm for wetting dimensions. Based on these values, it can be concluded that the correspondence between simulations and observations was very good.  相似文献
