This study describes the macroscopic and microscopic lesions in farmed rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) naturally infected with genetically identified Aeromonas salmonicida, A. hydrophila, and A. veronii species. The genus Aeromonas includes bacteria that naturally inhabit both waterways and organisms. At least 27 Aeromonas species have been identified to date, some of which can cause significant economic losses in aquaculture. As up to 68.8% of Aeromonas isolates may be misidentified in routine biochemical and phenotypic tests, however, reported cases of Aeromonas infection in fish may be wrongly identified. Our findings confirmed that the 3 Aeromonas species studied are associated with septicemia and dermal lesions in rainbow trout.  相似文献

The isolation and identification of Avibacterium paragallinarum serovar B-1 from severe infectious coryza outbreaks in broiler breeders in Panama is reported for the first time. Infectious coryza was absent for over a decade in the breeder farms area. Disease outbreaks were characterized by an up to 45% drop in egg production and increased mortality. Use of a commercial trivalent bacterin and a strengthened biosecurity program prevented outbreaks in susceptible flocks in the farm.  相似文献

Between 2008 and 2010, 14 isolates of Avibacterium paragallinarum were identified as serovar C-1 in Mexico. All isolates were obtained from commercial laying hens suffering infectious coryza despite a history of vaccination. The enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus-based PCR genotyping showed that all isolates had a common pattern. Until recently, serovars A-1, A-2, B-1, and C-2 were the serovars prevalent in Mexico. Serovar C-1 has been identified in Japan and recently in the Americas in Ecuador. Our current study suggests that Av. paragallinarum serovar C-1 is an emerging serovar in Mexico. Our results also indicate that the Mexican isolates of Av. paragallinarum serovar C-1 may have a clonal relationship. Knowledge of the genetic diversity of Av. paragallinarum may be of value in understanding vaccine performance and identifying the best combination to achieve broader protection.  相似文献

Genome-wide insertional mutagenesis of Arabidopsis thaliana   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Over 225,000 independent Agrobacterium transferred DNA (T-DNA) insertion events in the genome of the reference plant Arabidopsis thaliana have been created that represent near saturation of the gene space. The precise locations were determined for more than 88,000 T-DNA insertions, which resulted in the identification of mutations in more than 21,700 of the approximately 29,454 predicted Arabidopsis genes. Genome-wide analysis of the distribution of integration events revealed the existence of a large integration site bias at both the chromosome and gene levels. Insertion mutations were identified in genes that are regulated in response to the plant hormone ethylene.  相似文献

The presence of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) in salmonids predominantly produces a high mortality rate in first-feeding fry. Genomic analysis of the vp2 gene sequence is most commonly used to determine the genetic diversity of IPNV isolates. Recently, information obtained from the vp1 gene allowed for efficient analysis of the genetic diversity of IPNV. In this study, the vp1 gene from a Mexican IPNV isolate was characterized and compared with IPNV isolates from Europe, North America, and Asia. The results indicate that the Mexican isolate is most closely related genetically to the 2310 strain from Spain.  相似文献

Brazilian castor bean (Ricinus communis L) crops have expanded towards semiarid lands, in which soil salinity is an important factor limiting plant development. In order to evaluate the effects of salt stress on leaf gas exchange, pigments, and dry matter accumulation of seedlings, seeds of castor bean var. BRS Nordestina were planted in 15-L pots filled with 13 kg of soil (control) or with soil plus 2 g NaCl kg−1 soil corresponding to 30 mM NaCl (salt treatment). Seedlings were grown under greenhouse conditions and the effects of salinity were assessed by measuring physiological parameters at 38 and 59 days after germination. Salt treatment induced decreases in leaf water potential at pre-dawn (ψpd, 42%), stomatal conductance to water vapor (gs, 36%), and net carbon assimilation rate (A, 24%) only at 38 days after germination. At the same time, the values for transpiration rate were unchanged and the hydraulic conductance was increased (34%). After 59 days under hypersalinity, leaf ψpd increased to −0.44 MPa, although gs, A, transpiration rate, and hydraulic conductance were not different between treatments. Salt stress effects on chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and chlorophyll a + b contents were evident only on experimental day 59. The dry matter accumulation of leaves, roots and stems, as well as the total dry matter, and the root to above ground ratio increased with plant growth in both treatments, however, these parameters were lowered in salt-stressed seedlings. In short, all physiological variables were more drastically affected after 38 days under high salinity, and despite acclimatization of A after 59 days exposure to salt, no recovery of the dry matter accumulation was observed in the seedlings, suggesting that this species does not tolerate salt stress at its initial growth stages.  相似文献

Several studies of fish have shown that aluminum may induce hypoxia, hypercapnia, metabolic acidosis, and respiratory failure. In lymphocytes, morphologic abnormalities and reduced immune activity have been observed. Nevertheless, there is little data on oxidative stress and such data are essential in order to identify its mechanism of action. The common carp Cyprinus carpio, an omnivorous fish commonly used in commercial aquaculture, has been proposed as a test organism in toxicologic assays due to its economic importance and wide geographic distribution. The aim of this work was to evaluate Al-induced oxidative stress in lymphocytes of the common carp C. carpio. Specimens were exposed to three different concentrations of Al (0.05, 120, and 239 mg/l) in a static exposure system for 96 h. At the end of the exposure period, blood was collected and lymphocytes were separated. Lipid peroxidation, oxidized protein content and the activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase were measured. Results show that the tested Al concentrations modified the activity of antioxidant enzymes and elicited higher levels of lipid peroxidation and oxidized proteins. The degree of damage induced was concentration and tissue dependent.  相似文献

Paracetamol is an antipyretic analgesic widely used globally. It has been recurrently found in water bodies and is known to elicit toxic effects in aquatic species; however, its potential ability to induce oxidative stress in sentinel species remains unknown The objective was to establish a methodology to evaluate the toxicity elicited on the sentinel species Hyalella azteca by paracetamol-enriched sediment using oxidative stress tests. Concentrations used in assays were determined using the previously obtained median lethal concentration (72?h LC50). The following oxidative stress biomarkers were evaluated: lipid peroxidation (LPO), protein carbonyl content (PCC) in order to determine oxidized protein content, and the activity of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPX). LPO and PCC increased significantly while SOD, CAT, and GPX decreased significantly (p?<?0.05) with respect to controls. Paracetamol induces oxidative stress on H. azteca, and the set of tests employed is helpful in evaluating the toxicity of this group of pharmaceuticals on aquatic species.  相似文献

The enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus polymerase chain reaction (ERIC-PCR) technique was used for fingerprinting of reference strains and Mexican isolates of Haemophilus paragallinarum. A total of nine ERIC patterns were given by the nine serovar reference strains of this bacteria. Two Modesto (C-2) reference strains from different sources showed the same ERIC pattern. Seventeen ERIC patterns were obtained among 29 Mexican isolates included in the study, belonging to serovars prevalent in Mexico (A-1, A-2, B-1, and C-2). Obtained results indicate that the ERIC-PCR technique could be used as a molecular laboratory tool for subtyping of H. paragallinarum.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of nursery shading on the Yellow-ipe seedling (Tabebuia chrysotricha) growth, photosynthesis, and photosynthetic acclimation after being transferred into direct sunlight. The Yellow-ipe seedlings were grown under 0, 50, 70 and 95% shade. At the 134th day of sowing, leaf gas exchange and chlorophyll were measured under current growth shading, after exposure to 15 min and two day full sunlight. With the increase of shading, the Yellow-ipe seedlings allocated more biomass to the stem and leaves and less to the roots, and there was an increase in the leaf area ratio and specific leaf area. In relation to 0% of shading there was a increase of 211% in stem, 116% in leaf, and a reduction of 200% in roots biomass when seedling were grown under 95% of shading. The total biomass accumulation had a high correlation with collar diameter (r = 0.96). More than 70% of the shading reduced the photosynthesis, and after transferring the seedlings into full sunlight, more than 50% of the shading induced a reduction in chlorophyll, stomatal conductance, photosynthesis and instantaneous carboxylation efficiency, suggesting the presence of a photoinhibition process. The Yellow-ipe seedling growth under nursery conditions should not be done under more than 50% shading, which may result in the lower seedling quality and poorer acclimation to transplantation, particularly to severe degraded areas with direct sunlight. The species can be used for recovering from totally devastated forest areas to initial recovery when full canopy are forming.  相似文献
