Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare L.) was cultivated at the Norwegian Crop Research Institute at the Apelsvoll Research Centre, Division Kise, in the period from 2000 to 2001. The study focused on different harvesting regimens for high biomass production and essential oil (EO) yield and quality. Two tansy genotypes from Canada (Richters and Goldsticks) and three Norwegian genotypes (Steinvikholmen, Alvdal, and Brumunddal) were studied. The Canadian genotypes reached a height of 130-145 cm and showed a higher dry weight of aerial plant parts compared to the Norwegian plants in 2000. Similar oil yields could be observed for the Canadian types and genotype Steinvikholmen in the range of 30.8-34.6 L/ha when the plants were harvested twice during budding and before flowering after regrowth (year 2001). In contrast, single harvesting at the full bloom stage resulted in higher oil yields, between 42.1 and 44.5 L/ha (Canadian genotypes), whereas 21.0-38.4 L/ha was obtained from the Norwegian types. Tansy genotypes could be grouped into the following chemotypes: the mixed chemotypes Steinvikholmen (thujone-camphor), Alvdal (thujone-camphor-borneol), Goldsticks (thujone-camphor-chrysanthenyl type), and Brumunddal (thujone-camphor-1,8-cineole-bornyl acetate/borneol-alpha-terpineol) and the distinct chemotype Richters, with average concentrations of (E)-chrysanthenyl acetate >40% in both leaf and flower EO.  相似文献

Use of coldwater recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) are still very rare in Norway, and only two farms are producing Arctic charr. This project took place in one of these commercial Arctic charr farms; Villmarksfisk AS in Bardu, Northern Norway.The farm gets its make-up water from ground water that holds 5 °C year around. Temperature in the rearing water varies between 7.5 °C (“low”) to 12 °C (“high”) through the year. The biological filter in the RAS seems to work stable at both “low” and “high” temperatures, including after incidents when feeding has been stopped for a day and started on top again the day after. Such an extreme change in loading was measured as a 70% increase in TAN concentration, with only minor changes in nitrite levels recorded. The biofilter also kept the nitrite stable and low in spite of diurnal variation in TAN excretion at normal feeding regimes (every day in three periods at day-time).The farming concept is to stock the farm with wild caught juvenile fish for on-growing to market size fish (0.75–1.00 kg). A drop in growth rate during early autumn has been a main concern for the farm. This may reflect a seasonal shift in growth potential, sometimes referred to as “autumn depression”. Interestingly, there is little sign of seasonal changes in the growth of hatchery-produced fish tested in the farm. Sampling of water quality through the seasons in tanks holding fish undergoing such growth depressions indicate that TAN excretion is much higher per kg feed used in the wintertime than in the springtime. This observation corresponds with the lack of weight gain during wintertime despite that the fish is feeding. Thus, feed conversion calculations indicate that feed utilization also varies with season reaching its nadir during this period.Both challenges concerning RAS in cold water and strongly reduced growth in autumn and winter time, have been investigated from 2005 to 2007 in a project financed by the Norwegian research council and the partners in the agricultural framework agreement.  相似文献

Estimates of the radiocarbon age of seawater are required in correlations between marine and terrestrial records of the late Quaternary climate. We radiocarbon-dated marine shells and terrestrial plant remains deposited in two bays on Norway's west coast between 11,000 and 14,000 years ago, a time of large and abrupt climatic changes that included the Younger Dryas (YD) cold episode. The radiocarbon age difference between the shells and the plants showed that sea surface reservoir ages increased from 400 to 600 years in the early YD, stabilized for 900 years, and dropped by 300 years within a century across the YD-Holocene transition.  相似文献

A total of 855 pig lungs were collected at slaughter and evaluated macroscopically. Bacteriological examinations were carried out on tissue samples from chronic pleuropneumonic lesions (n = 196) and from chronic bronchopneumonic lesions with suppuration (n = 14). Samples from normal lung tissue (n = 22) were also included. Pasteurella multocida was isolated from 54%, Actinobacillus (Haemophilus) pleuropneumoniae from 11%, and Streptococcus spp. from 14% of the pneumonic lesions, respectively. From normal lung tissue P. multocida was isolated from 3 (14%) of the samples, A. pleuropneumoniae was not recovered and streptococci were isolated from only 1 (5%) of these samples. The above mentioned bacterial species were recovered either in pure cultures or mixed with various other microbes. A total of 109 P. multocida strains were further characterized by capsular serotyping and testing for production of dermonecrotic toxin. Ninety-nine (91%) of the strains were capsular type A 10 (9%) were type D. Out of the type A and the type D strains 94% and 90% were toxigenic, respectively. Most of the A. pleuropneumoniae strains were serotype 2. Strains of serotypes 1 and 7 were also identified. The majority of the streptococci were identified as either Streptococcus suis or Streptococcus dysgalactiae. Actinomyces pyogenes was isolated from 14% of the lesions and anaerobic bacteria from 18%, respectively. The significance of the various bacterial species in relation to the development of chronic pneumonic lesions is discussed. Special attention is paid to P. multocida, and it is concluded that this bacterial species is probably of importance for the development of both types of chronic pneumonias.  相似文献

The operational logistics of mass killing of healthy, surplus piglets by manual blunt force trauma, controlled blunt force trauma, intraperitoneal injection of barbiturate, and free bullet were recorded. Objective performance variables evaluated were, speed of application, human resource and input cost, animal restraint required, and failure rate. Subjective evaluation of esthetics and difficulty of application indicated manual blunt force trauma is an unacceptable technique. Under field conditions, physical methods of killing were superior to intraperitoneal injection of concentrated pentobarbital. Considering animal welfare metrics in isolation, controlled blunt force trauma was superior to all other techniques attempted.  相似文献

Three hundred and eighty-four Staphylococcus aureus isolates obtained from mammary secretions from 332 ewes kept for meat production were typed by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). The ewes were from 242 flocks located in 13 counties distributed in four regions of Norway. In total, 64 different pulsotypes were identified, 31 of these were represented by a single isolate. Fifty-nine percent of the isolates belonged to one of five closely related pulsotypes. This group of pulsotypes occurred in all the counties. Although widely disseminated, the proportions of the prevalent and closely related pulsotypes differed between the regions. Nine pulsotypes were unique to single regions but the number of isolates belonging to each of these pulsotypes was low. Resistance to penicillin was found in only 3 of the 384 S. aureus isolates. These represented three different single banding patterns, not related to any of the prevalent pulsotypes found.  相似文献

In the period from 2000 to 2002, studies on peppermint (Mentha x piperita) herb and essential oil (EO) production have been conducted at Planteforsk, Apelsvoll Research Centre Div. Kise in Norway. The trials were aimed at finding the optimal harvest date and suitable drying methods to maximize EO yield and to obtain a desirable oil quality. Peppermint plants from the first production year (2000 and 2001) and the second production year (2002) were harvested during flowering at three developmental stages (early, full, and late bloom). Biomass and leaf production were recorded, and the water content of the plant material was detected after the application of different drying methods: instantaneous drying at 30, 50, and 70 degrees C and prewilting (ground drying) for 1 or 5 days followed by final drying at 30 degrees C. Finally, plant samples were transferred to The Plant Biocentre at NTNU, Trondheim, Norway, for hydrodistillation and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analyses of the EOs. Peppermint oil yield increased from early to full bloom and late bloom (average of all years and drying methods except for 50 and 70 degrees C: 2.95, 4.13 and 4.20 L/daa, respectively) as an effect of biomass production and leaf growth. The flavor-impact compounds, menthol and menthone, reached their optimum at full bloom (43-54 and 12-30%, respectively). Prewilting led to slight decreased EO levels after 1 day (7.7%) and 5 days of ground drying (1.5%) and no EO quality changes, compared to direct drying at 30 degrees C. The plant weight (H2O content) was drastically decreased to the average under 80 and 45% in all years, thus reducing the energy supply and costs for the necessary final drying step.  相似文献

The oxygen consumption of Atlantic salmon was measured in large culture tanks for a period of 20 months from the parr to the adult stage. In addition, diurnal sampling was conducted for estimation of both oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion. The oxygen consumption was affected especially by temperature, season and smoltification. For parr the oxygen consumption rate was 1–6 mg O2/kg min and the ammonia excretion rate was 0·037–0·13 mg N/kg min from autumn to spring. The corresponding rates for adult salmon during the period October to July were 1·5–4·5 mg O2/kg min and 0·075–0·13 mg N/kg min.  相似文献
