Scallop spat production normally requires transfer between growthsystems. Simulated transport experiments were carried out in April, June,December and February to evaluate effects of transport time on greatscallop (Pecten maximus) spat growth and survival. The spat (1.7–1.8 mm in shell-height and 21–25 µg ash free dry weight [AFDW]) wereheld in moist coffee filters at a temperature of 10 °C for up to 24 h,before being replaced into sieves in rearing tanks at 15 °C. The studyshowed that by increasing air emersion time, survival and growthdecreased. No significant difference in the results between 0 and 4 h of airemersion was found, while the effects after 12 and 24 h differed betweenspat groups. Survival and growth rates showed seasonal differences. Meansurvival was 35–71% in April and 77–99% from June to February. In Junemean growth rates attained were 115–128 µm shell-height and 15–18µg AFDW per day compared with 49–69 µm and 3.8–7.0 µgper day for the other spat groups. Great scallop spat may survive atransfer time of 24 h, but transportation for longer than 12 h is notrecommended if subsequent high survival and growth rates are to beensured.  相似文献

In order to optimize Pecten maximus larval performance and post-larval yield, larvae were fed five algal concentrations in the range 3–20 cells μL?1 in 2,800-L flow-through tanks without prophylactic antibiotics. Competent larvae were transferred to a commercial hatchery for settlement and provided uniform conditions for 4 weeks to observe effects. Increased diet concentration increased the sum of fatty acids (FA) in the total larval population, reaching 7 and 25 ng FA larvae?1 at 3 and 16 cells μL?1, respectively. The FA level in competent larvae was not affected by diet concentration and ranged from 30 to 46 ng larvae?1. Increased diet concentration increased larval growth rate, and the larvae were ready to settle 5 days earlier when fed 16 cells μL?1 compared to 3 cells μL?1. Larval ingestion rate increased during life span and with increased larval diet concentrations, but a considerable amount (40–60 %) of the added algal cells was lost from the larval rearing tanks due to the seawater flow. There was no effect on larval survival, final post-larval shell height, % of competent larvae transferred to settlement, or total yield of post-larvae. Final mean post-larval shell height was 509 μm and 25.5 % of competent larvae settled, resulting in a final post-larval yield between 6.9 and 17.6 % of the initial number of d3 larvae. Competent larvae with similar FA content produced similar numbers of post-larvae independent of diet concentration, even if higher diet concentrations resulted in higher rates of larval development and metamorphosis.  相似文献

An increased understanding of ion-exchange processes in raw-humus was obtained by simulations using quantitative mathematical models. The work is based on a series of percolation experiments with a water flow of about 1 mm min?1 through raw-humus samples of 4 cm thickness. For the input solutions consisting of 10?3 N H2SO4, HNO3, HCl and NaCl the results indicate that cation-exchange reactions are the most important processes for the chemical composition of the run-off. Since a large part of the water flows quickly through the soil, both the water residence time and the ion-exchange kinetics must be taken into account. As a basis for the chemical model, a hydrologic sub-model reproducing the residence time distribution of the flow in the soil is used. Considering the ions H+, M+ (monovalent metal ions) and M2+ (divalent metal ions), four different chemical models were tried but only one of them gave satisfactory agreement with the experimental results. This model has 5 independent parameters and consists of first and second order chemical processes.  相似文献

A detailed study of hydrochemical processes associated with vegetation and soils was undertaken at a pristine site in mid-Norway. Inputs to the site during snow-free periods showed a marked seasonality with excess sulphate concentrations in rainfall only during the summer months. However, this represented a small fraction of total annual loading and there was a dominant influence of sea salt deposition. Site vegetation modified the chemistry of water reaching the soil surface, and this also showed a marked seasonal response. The pristine nature of this site results in the soils retaining acid-soluble components which may have been eluted from impacted sites. In the soils, the extractable aluminium remains largely (70%) in the organic bound forms. The contribution of different sources of water in affecting streamwater output quality at this site are discussed.  相似文献

Metabolic function of hepatic hexokinase in perch, Perca fluviatilis   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Feeding previously fasted perch with a carbohydrate‐rich pelleted diet resulted in a rapid transient insulin response followed by a transient increase in the activity of the hepatic low‐affinity hexokinase (glucokinase, GK). The activity of the high‐affinity hexokinase (hexokinase, HK) increased more slowly and steadily to about seven times the fasting value on the 10th day after start of feeding, in parallel with an increase in the hepatic glycogen content. An insulin response was also observed when fasted perch were fed a diet consisting of boiled fillet of cod (a high‐protein, very low‐fat and practically carbohydrate‐free diet). In this case no GK activity was observed, whereas the glycogen content increased steadily from the start of feeding to about the same level as when fish were given the carbohydrate‐rich diet. There was a delayed increase in the activity of HK, starting on about the sixth day (after the glycogen stores were filled), concomitant with increased activities of lipogenic enzymes (glucose‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase, ATP citrate lyase and malic enzyme). The results are in line with the hypothesis that the mitochondria‐bound hepatic HK has a particular anabolic function in glycogen and fat synthesis.  相似文献

In both man and animals, inflammatory changes in the pancreas often occur with disturbances in lipid metabolism, including hypertriglyceridemia and an excess of free fatty acids. Hyperlipoproteinemia type I is a human condition caused by a deficiency of lipoprotein lipase. A similar metabolic disturbance that occurs in mink is of considerable comparative interest, as it is also followed by pancreatitis. Pancreatic lesions in hyperlipoproteinemic mink included overt variably sized nodules with hemorrhage and necrosis. These lesions began as intralobular necrosis of exocrine cells and progressed to total lobular destruction, with eventual involvement of interlobular tissue. Remnants of epithelial cells and lipid-filled macrophages were seen in necrotic areas, along with other types of inflammatory cells scattered in a lipid-rich exudate. Granulation tissue developed rapidly in necrotic areas. Additional observations included ductal proliferation, replacement of epithelial cells with fat, and mural arterial thickening, most conspicuously with vacuolated cells and endothelial proliferation. Extravasation of lipid-rich plasma is thought to be a major intensifier of the inflammatory response.  相似文献

Abstract

A feeding experiment involving histidine supplementation to broiler feed resulted in increased concentration of the histidine containing dipeptides anserine and carnosine in broiler breast muscle. Supplementation with 1 g histidine per kg feed gave a 64% increase in carnosine, and about 10% increase in anserine in the muscle. The standard broiler feed concentrate now in use in Norway seems to contain less histidine than what may be needed for optimal synthesis of carnosine and anserine. These dipeptides have important roles as antioxidants, pH buffering agents and anti-glycation agents. They may have important roles in meat for increasing its stability, shelf life and antioxidant capacity, and it might be speculated that broiler meat rich in anserine and carnosine in the future will be considered a type of functional food, having possible health-beneficial effects. Histidine supplementation of standard Norwegian broiler feed concentrate should be considered.  相似文献

Background

Outcomes of colic treatment are of great interest to clinicians, horse owners and insurers. One commonly used criterion of success is the overall short-term survival rate. This is used as to compare treatments and to measure quality of veterinary care, but may be biased by demographic or social factors such as attitudes towards animal suffering and euthanasia. The aims of this study were to 1) describe and analyse characteristics in horses with signs of colic referred to the University Hospital for Large Animals (UHLA), University of Copenhagen, Denmark over a 10-year period and 2) to compare these rates with those published in other comparable studies.

Results

The overall survival rate for colic horses over the 10-year study period was 68% (confidence intervals (CI): 66–71%; 1087/1588). In the medical group, 1093 horses, short-term survival was 87% (CI: 85–89%). Thirty one % of referred horses were given diagnoses requiring surgical intervention (CI: 29–33%). In this group 32% of the horses were euthanized before surgery (CI: 28–36%; 159/495). Of the surgical cases 27% (CI: 23-31%) were euthanized or died during surgery. Of the horses that recovered from surgery 25% died or were euthanized (CI: 19–32%; 48/189), while 75% survived to discharge (CI: 68–81%).

Conclusions

The short term survival rates of Danish horses with colic were similar or lower to those reported from other countries. Apart from variability of veterinary care, attitudes towards euthanasia vary among the countries, which may bias the outcomes. This study indicates that qualitative interview studies on owners’ attitudes towards animal suffering and euthanasia need to be conducted. Our opinion is that survival rates are not valid as sole indicators of quality of care in colic treatment due to selection bias. If the survival rates are to be compared between hospitals, techniques or surgeons, prospective studies including mutually agreed-on disease severity scores and a predefined set of reasons for euthanasia are needed.  相似文献

Crude extracts of Haplopappus sonorensis (A. Gray) S.F. Blake (Asteraceae), showed activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H(37)Rv. By assay-guided fractionation, 5-hydroxy-3,7,4'-trimethoxyflavone (1). 5,7-dihydroxy-3,4'-dimethoxyflavone (2). and 5,4'-dihydroxy-3,7-dimethoxyflavone (3). were identified as the antimycobacterial principles.
