In arid and semi-arid regions, where water availability is a major limitation in crop production, using alternative water resources, such as saline water is one way to utilize lands. Chamomile (Matricaria recutita L.) as an annual medicinal herb may be considered as an economic substitute for field crops irrigated with fresh water since it has adaptability to wide range of climate and soil. A field examination was conducted during 2004–2005 using complete randomized block design with four replications in order to evaluate the effects of saline irrigation water on morphological characters, mineral content, oil quantity (content, yield), oil composition and apigenin content of chamomile. In each plot, 0.6 g/m2 of seeds were grown in 4 rows. The irrigation water had five different salinity levels (0, 4, 8, 12 and 16 dS m−1). The investigated characters through cultivation were fresh weight of flower (g), dry weight of flower (g), dry weight of aerial stems (g), dry weight of root (g), oil yield (kg/h), oil content (%), oil quality and apigenin content (%). After harvesting, the content of minerals (Na+, Cl, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+) were evaluated in aerial parts and roots of each plot. Mean comparisons for fresh flower weight in different treatments showed that fresh flower yield decreased with increasing salinity and it was higher in control compared to others. Analysis of variance showed that saline irrigation water had no significant effect on oil quantity (yield and content), oil quality (chemical composition) or apigenin content. Our results showed that chamomile is able to maintain all its medical properties, under saline condition and could be cultivated economically in such conditions.  相似文献

The response of nursery seedlings and wildings of oriental beech(Fagus orientalis Lipsky) to canopy gap size was studied ina climax beech forest in northern Iran with respect to seedlingsurvival, shoot growth and vitality. These parameters were followedfor 2 years after planting in gaps of 50, 200 and 600 m2, aswell as in the open field. Foliage coloration was used as acriterion for vitality. The survival rate of nursery seedlingsand wildings dropped rapidly with increasing gap size from 84per cent in 50-m2 canopy openings to  相似文献

Vibrational properties of wood are affected by several parameters, of which extractives can be one of the most important ones. Wood for European musical instruments has been often studied, but traditional Middle Eastern ones had been left unnoticed. In this study white mulberry (Morus alba L.), the main material for long-necked lutes in Iran, was extracted by five solvents of various polarities (water included). Free-free bar forced vibrations were used to measure longitudinal (L) loss tangent (tanδ), storage (elastic) modulus (E′) and specific modulus (E′/γ) in the acoustic range. Their anisotropy between the 3 axes of orthotropy was determined by dynamic mechanical analysis. Native wood had a quite low E L′/γ but its tanδ was smaller than expected, and the anisotropy of tanδ and E′/γ was very low. Removal of extractives caused tanδ to increase and moduli to decrease. Acetone, the most effective solvent on damping despite a moderate extraction yield, increased tanδ L by at least 20% but did not modify E′/γ as much. When used successively, its effects masked those of solvents used afterwards. Anisotropy of E′/γ was nearly unchanged after extraction in methanol or hot water, while tanδ was much more increased in R than in T direction. Results suggest that in white mulberry, damping is governed more by nature and localization of extractives rather than by their crud abundance.  相似文献

Due to the variations in opacity and brightness of peroxide bleached pulp at Mazandaran Wood and Paper Industries Company (MWPI), empirical models were developed to predict chemimechanical pulp (CMP) brightness and opacity from peroxide bleaching conditions and to drive the optimum operating conditions. To overcome the inconsistency problem, a multi-variate regression analysis method was used for model building. The models were then validated using a new data set from the bleach plant at MWPI, assessing the models’ predictive ability and performance. The results show that there is a relationship between bleaching variables and such dependent variables as pulp brightness and opacity. In addition to the hydrogen peroxide charge and pulp initial brightness, the initial opacity had a significant reverse effect on the final CMP brightness. It was also found that the concentration of total Na+ in the CMP tower was the most important variable affecting the final pulp opacity. The validation results demonstrated that these models can be employed as useful tools for process optimization purposes.  相似文献

Investigating population genetic structure and diversity, and resistance to pathogens in crop wild relatives are key steps to assess appropriate conservation and breeding programs. The Caucasian wild apple (Malus orientalis Uglitzk.) is an emblematic fruit tree of the Hyrcanian forest and is supposed to be a contributor to the cultivated apple genome (Malus domestica Borkh. Yet, no study has investigated its population structure, diversity and susceptibility to the two main pathogens of apples, the apple scab (Venturia inaqualis) and the powdery mildew (Podosphaera leucotricha). Here, we investigated population genetic structure and diversity of M. orientalis in the Hyrcanian forest as a mean to identifying future targeted populations for apple conservation and breeding programs. We genotyped using multilocus microsatellite 100 M. orientalis trees sampled in 14 sites. These trees were also screened for presence/absence of six (Rvi6, Vr, Rvi4, Rvi15, Rvi5 and Rvi11) and three (Pl-1, Pl-w, Pl-d) resistance genes to the apple scab and the powdery mildew respectively. Our results showed significant but weak between-site genetic differentiation and isolation by distance pattern suggesting substantial historical gene flow for M. orientalis in this area. We also detected a West-Eastern genetic structure across the Hyrcanian forest with five main populations showing admixture. We also showed a high diversity of resistance genes to apple scab across sites; in contrast, we only found one resistance gene to powdery mildew. These results are a first glimpse to settle wild apple conservation programs in Iran and pinpoint Iranian wild apple populations as an untapped source for apple breeding.  相似文献

The impact of ray and vessel features on the radial air permeability and liquid penetration was compared between poplar (Populus nigra) tension and normal wood. Air permeability was measured by the falling-water volume-displacement method. To measure liquid penetration, specimens were saturated with safranin solution by the full-cell process at low pressure, and the pattern of red color penetration was then examined. Results revealed no significant difference in vessel frequency, intervessel and vessel-ray pit diameter between tension and normal wood, whereas porosity and average vessel lumen area in normal wood were significantly greater than those in tension wood. Regarding rays, their length was not different between normal and tension wood, but the latter had more frequent rays per millimeter. Since xylem rays are important flow conduits in lateral movement of fluids, it could be hypothesized that a larger number of rays in tension wood would lead to improved radial permeability. However, neither air permeability nor liquid penetration varied significantly in the studied specimens. Consequently, the results proved that ray frequency has no determining role in radial fluid flow in poplar tension and normal wood and that the share of intervessel and vessel-ray pits in radial permeability is more important.  相似文献

The main aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of dextromethorphan and midazolam and their combination on morphine tolerance and dependence in mice. In the present study, different groups of mice were rendered randomly and received morphine (50 mg kg(-1), s.c.), morphine (50 mg kg(-1), s.c.) + Dextromethorphan (25, 50 and 75 mg kg(-1), i.p.), morphine (50 mg kg(-1), s.c.) + midazolam (0.5, 1 and 2 mg kg(-1), i.p.), morphine (50 mg kg(-1), s.c.) + [Dextromethorphan (25 mg kg(-1), i.p. ) + midazolam (0.5 mg kg(-1), i.p.)] once a day for four days. Tolerance was assessed by administration of morphine (9 mg kg(-1), i.p.) on fifth day. Withdrawal symptoms (markers for dependence) was assessed by administration of naloxone (4 mg kg(-1), i.p.) 2 h after co-administration of morphine with either Dextromethorphan or midazolam or their combination. Results showed that pretreatment with Dextromethorphan or midazolam decreased the degree of tolerance and withdrawal symptoms significantly. Additionally co-administration ofDextromethorphan and midazolam couldn't decreased the tolerance and dependence significantly. From these results it may concluded that Dextromethorphan and midazolam alone or in combination could prevent the development of morphine induced tolerance and dependence. These effects can be related to the N-Methyl-D-Aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist behavior of Dextromethorphan and GABA-receptor agonist property of midazolam.  相似文献

A case study was conducted in beech forests of northern Iran to determine the effect of the created gaps on some soil properties in beech stand. Changes of soil properties in small (60 150 m 2 ), medium (151 241 m 2 ), large (242 332 m 2 ) and very large (333 550 m 2 ) gaps, as well as under closed stands were studied eight years after the gap creation. Soil samples were taken from three depths, 0 10, 10 20 and 20 30 cm. The gaps were different from their around undisturbed stands in terms of the following soil parameters: Mg +2 concentration of 0 10 cm at medium gap size, bulk density of 10 20 cm at very large gap size as well as K + and Ca +2 concentrations at 20 30 cm at small and large gap sizes, respectively. Furthermore, the size of the gaps had no effect on soil characteristics through the whole profile. Water saturation percent (Sp %) at 0 10cm as well as P and Mg +2 at 20 30 cm was different amongst undisturbed stands around different gap sizes. The center and the edges of the gap were different only in terms of organic carbon at the depth of 10 20 cm. Significant differences were observed between gaps andclosed canopy regarding P and Ca +2 at depth 0 10 cm and 10 20 cm, respectively. It can be concluded that applied silvicultural system for harvesting trees which created these gaps might be suitable for conservation and forest management in the region.  相似文献

We compared the dead wood (DW) conditions of Cheshmeh-sar forest and Sardab forest with different management history, including reserve forest and harvested forest. The First forest took 100% inventory from all the available DW. Also dead trees were compared interms of species, shape, location and quality of fracture in both forests.Volumes of dead wood in Cheshmeh-sar and Sardab forests were 207.47and 142.74 m3, respectively. Due to this significant difference, impact onthe management level was determined. In Cheshmeh-sar forest, 42% ofdead trees were standing and 58% were fallen type while in Sardab forest 38.6% were standing and 61.4% fallen. But the difference was not statistically significant between them (p = 0.0587). In terms of quality, dead trees of hard, soft and hollow had the highest frequency, respectively. However, 71.5% of DW was seen as hard dead in Cheshmeh-sar forestwhile hard dead trees in Sardab forests were 54.2%. Soft quality degree ofdead trees which formed in Cheshmeh-sar and Sardab forest were calculated as 26.6% and 43.4% respectively. Also 30% of the dead trees of Sardab forest were eradicated while in Cheshmeh-sar this amount was reduced to 12%. Due to this significant difference ((Р=0/018), it is concluded that the type of management and human interference are affecting the quality of dead trees and makes us to think the human interferences could effect on the ecosystem of touched forests.  相似文献
