To investigate the efficiency of hCG/CIDR after breeding to increase the reproductive performance, 35 synchronized ewes were mated with fertile rams and were assigned to three treatment groups. Ewes in hCG group (n?=?12) received 400 IU hCG on day 11 post-mating, and ewes in CIDR group (n?=?11) received CIDR from day 7 until day 19 post-mating. Ewes in the control group (n?=?12) did not receive any treatment. Blood samples were collected on days 7, 12, 17, and 22 post-mating. Plasma P4 concentrations were higher on days 12 and 17 post-mating in hCG- and CIDR-treated groups (P?<?0.05). However, the concentrations of P4 on day 22 post-mating in hCG and control groups were higher than that in CIDR group (P?<?0.05). Ewes in hCG group produced more quadruplets (P?<?0.05) and triplets, and as a result, they had a larger litter size (P?<?0.05). The lamb mortality rate by weaning in hCG group (3.6%) was less than that in control (11.8%; P?<?0.05) and CIDR (9.1%; P?>?0.05) groups. Post-mating administration of hCG or CIDR did not affect the lamb birth weight in single and quadruplet births (P?>?0.05), but the birth weight of twin lambs was higher in the hCG and CIDR groups (P?<?0.05). Weaning weights of twin lambs were higher in the hCG and CIDR groups (P?<?0.05). In conclusion, hCG/CIDR administration post-mating increased the maternal P4 concentrations and enhanced reproductive performance.  相似文献

The potential effect of rhizobial inoculation on root knot nematodes in chickpea, mungbean and pigeonpea were studied under field condition. The seed treatment with respective rhizobium strains increased the nodulation, leghemoglobin content, bacteriod population, plant growth, yield and nitrogen uptake of three three food legumes compared to the plants without the rhizobium treatment. The nematode (1500?juveniles/kg soil) incited oval galls on the roots of the three legumes, and suppressed plant growth and yield. The galling, egg mass production and soil population of the nematode was greater on the plants without the rhizobium treatment. The pure culture and culture filtrate of the rhizobium strains suppressed the egg hatching and induced mortality to the juveniles of M. incognita over control. The nematode infection reduced the nodulation, bacteroid population and leghemoglobin contents of the nodules and NPK uptake by the plants. Hence, the rhizobia treatment shall be integrated to common agronomic practice of food legume cultivation so as to enhance crop productivity and to protect roots from nematode attack.  相似文献

A sand culture experiment was carried out to study the effects of sulfur deprivation on heat stress tolerance of two cluster bean (Cymopsis tetragonoloba L. Taub) cultivars (GC-1 and Pusa Nau Bahar (PNB)). Three weeks old sulfur-starved and sulfur-supplemented plants were subjected to heat stress (45°C/35°C) treatment for 24 h. Total dry weight, chlorophyll content, Chlorophyll a:b ratio, electrolyte leakage, malondialdehyde (MDA) accumulation, H2O2 content, sugar, glucose-6-phosphate (G-6-P), fructose-6-phosphate (F-6-P), ascorbate and glutathione concentrations and antioxidant enzyme activity (superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT)) were monitored, at the end of the heat stress treatment. Heat stress enhanced and sulfur starvation depleted the contents of sugar metabolites, but the accumulation of sugar, G-6-P and F-6-P were not related with heat stress tolerance. Antioxidant enzyme activities of SOD and CAT were influenced significantly more by sulfur starvation than heat stress. The results showed that under heat stress, the addition of sulfur helps to mitigate the oxidative damage in both the cultivars. However, GC-1 was more heat tolerant as it was characterized by significantly higher total dry weight, chlorophyll content, ascorbate and glutathione content and lower H2O2, MDA, electrolyte leakage than PNB.  相似文献

Hilsa shad, Tenualosa ilisha (Hamilton), in Bangladesh is found in inland rivers, estuaries and the marine environment, throughout the year, but the peak catch period is during upstream migration. Tissue (white muscle, liver, brain) samples (total 640 specimens) were collected from three different localities, representing marine, brackish and fresh water, during the monsoon in the summer of the years 1993–1996 to identify genetic markers and study the population structure of this species. The samples were analysed by starch gel electrophoresis and isoelectric focusing, and stained for 15 enzymes and general muscle proteins. Only phosphoglucomutase, aspartate amino transferase, esterase and unidentified muscle proteins were found to be polymorphic. The allele frequencies for the samples collected in the marine environment deviated from corresponding samples from freshwater and estuarine localities, indicating that hilsa shad in Bangladesh waters comprise more than one gene pool.  相似文献

 Pot experiments were carried out to evaluate the response of rice to Sesbania rostrata green manure N as compared to urea fertilizer N under flooded conditions. After growing S. rostrata for 21 days with a 15N-labelled N source, the labelled Sesbania was applied to wetland rice as a green manure and the uptake of 15N from this substrate was compared to that from labelled urea. Rice was cultivated twice in the same pots. The rice was grown for a period of 49 days in each case, separated by a period of 21 days when the soil was allowed to dry. The 15N content of the soil and shoots and roots of rice was determined and 15N balances established. The total N content of the shoots and roots of rice was determined by a non-tracer method. The percentage recovery of 15N from shoot material which was derived from urea N was more than twice that from S. rostrata. The recovery of 15N from the pots receiving both green manure and urea was low, and not significantly different from that recovered from the green manure treatment. As much as 64.5–73.5% and 40.1–41% of the 15N remained in the soil which had received green manure or urea, respectively. The overall recoveries of 15N varied between 86.5% and 94.4%. At the second harvest, the oven-dry weight of shoots was significantly (P<0.05) higher in green-manure treated pots, but the total N content did not differ significantly. Labelled N remaining in the soil after amendment with the green manure was much more available to the rice crop than that remaining after the addition of urea-N. The total recovery of labelled N (shoots plus roots) amounted to 65.5% and 74%, respectively of the residual labelled N in the two S. rostrata treatments (i.e. 19.55 mg 15N pot–1 and 39.10 mg 15N pot–1) and 23.2% and 23.2% of the residual labelled N in the two urea treatments (i.e. 19.55 mg 15N pot and 39.10 mg 15N pot–1), respectively. Polyculture of olive barb with indigenous major carps was carried out for 8 mo at different densities in earthen ponds. All the experimental ponds were stocked with fingerlings of major carps viz., catla, Catla catla, and rohu, Labeo rohita, at the rate of 3750/ha each. In addition, olive barb, Puntius sarana, was stocked at the rate of 10,000, 12,500, and 15,000 fingerlings/ha in treatment‐1 (T1), treatment‐2 (T2), and treatment‐3 (T3), respectively. Fish in all the ponds were fed with supplementary feed comprising of rice bran (70%), mustard oil cake (25%), and fish meal (5%) at the rate of 3–6% of the estimated body weight. Physicochemical parameters and plankton populations of pond water were within the acceptable range for fish culture. The mean final weight, weight gain, and specific growth rate of catla were very similar in all the treatments while those for rohu and olive barb were significantly higher in T1 than in T2 and T3. The gross and net productions in T1 were significantly higher than in T2 and T3. The net benefit was also highest in T1 followed by T2 and lowest in T3. Under the conditions of this experiment, growth, production, and benefits were greatest at a stocking density of olive barb at 10,000/ha in polyculture with other major carps.  相似文献

This study analyzed water and soil quality and environmental impacts of shrimp farming in the southwestern coastal region of Bangladesh. Shrimp farming in the region is very traditional in nature where two culture systems viz. shrimp–rice and shrimp-only are being practiced, which are characterized by lower production, repeated stocking, irregular feeding, and fertilizing. Water quality in both farming systems was found suitable for optimum growth and survival of shrimp (Penaeus spp.). The level of 5-day biological oxygen demand (BOD5) in both systems even in canal water was within the recommended level provided by the Government of Bangladesh which is less than 5 mg/l. Therefore, effluents of shrimp farms in the study area did not show any nutrient pollution on the surrounding environment. However, saltwater intrusion has caused many problems like loss of agricultural production, reduced availability of fodder for livestock, and fresh water for domestic uses in the coastal region. The findings of this study confirmed that shrimp farming using saline water have long-term effect of soil salinization. As a result, it poses a real threat toward sustainability of coastal shrimp farming as well as coastal development in Bangladesh.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of rice wine (Jinbiao, Yinbiao, Wunianchen, Nv’erhong) on the endogenous protease activity, myofibrillar degradation, and quality characteristics of topmouth culter (Culter alburnus). Rice wine had a pH of 4.3 and calcium ions ranging from 89.30 to 123.70 μg/mL. Nv’erhong rice wine had the highest total phenolic content of 583.38 μg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/mL, while Wunianchen rice wine (WNC) showed the strongest total antioxidant capacity of 87.29 U/mL. WNC presented the optimum inhibitory effect on endogenous proteases of calpain and cathepsin B, D, and L, delaying the degradation of myosin heavy chain and α-actinin, which are important to muscle softening. The quality characteristic evaluation indicated that the addition of rice wine could maintain the hardness and chewiness, increase the springiness of the fish fillet, as well as inhibit the total volatile basic nitrogen production. These results suggest that rice wine had effects of inhibiting endogenous proteases, delaying myofibrillar degradation, and maintaining the sensory quality of topmouth culter.  相似文献
