Two trials were conducted to estimate the methionine (Met) requirement of juvenile white seabass, Atractoscion nobilis. Diets were formulated to contain 40% crude protein, 10% lipids, and 0.51% cysteine. Graded levels of dl ‐Met were added to create seven diets with dietary Met levels ranging from 0.72 to 0.98%, and nine diets ranging from 0.64 to 1.28% Met in Trials A and B, respectively. Thermal‐unit growth coefficient was fitted to dietary Met levels to estimate the Met requirement using the saturation kinetic model (SKM), the quadratic model (QM), or the broken quadratic model (BQM). The 95% confidence interval (CI) was estimated through the iterative fitting process for the BQM and using a bootstrapping approach for the QM and SKM. In Trial A, the three models estimated the requirement between 0.88 and 1.08%, with wide CI. In Trial B, precisions of the requirement estimates by the SKM and BQM were significantly improved compared with Trial A, though BQM evidently overestimated the requirement. SKM provided the best fit; hence, we conclude that the Met requirement for juvenile white seabass is 0.88% (95% CI: 0.80–1.08%) in the presence of 0.51% cysteine. This estimate provides valuable basis for the formulation of practical diets for juvenile white seabass.  相似文献

Florida pompano Trachinotus carolinus is an important species in which the essentiality of taurine has been demonstrated, yet a quantitative requirement has not been estimated. Two experiments were conducted where a combined twelve diets were formulated with graded levels of taurine (ranging 1.6–41.6 g/kg dry matter) and fed to juvenile pompano (initial weight 7.73 and 4.37 g in trial 1 and 2, respectively). Dose responses were observed in terms of growth, feed efficiency and whole‐body taurine content, but there was no effect on survival. Several regression models were evaluated to determine the most appropriate one to draw conclusions from. A 4‐parameter saturation kinetic model was selected to model feed efficiency, while a 5‐parameter saturation kinetic model fitted the growth data (as thermal‐unit growth coefficient, TGC). A broken‐quadratic model served to estimate a breaking point in the whole‐body taurine content, although it also showed that whole‐body taurine kept increasing even at dietary levels in far excess of the requirement. The dietary taurine requirement was estimated at 2.5 g/kg (2.0–3.3 g/kg, 95% CI, dry matter basis) based on feed efficiency, while TGC was maximized at levels between 4.9 and 31.4 g/kg dietary taurine.  相似文献

The effect of variable taurine inclusion (Tau) (1 g/kg DM to 15 g/kg DM) in the diet of juvenile barramundi (Lates calcarifer) on growth and nutrient utilization was investigated at three levels of dietary methionine (Met) supplementation. Diets were fed to juvenile barramundi (starting weight: 26.8 g) twice daily under a restricted pair‐fed regime for a period of 42 days. No significant effect of dietary Tau supply on growth or nutrient utilization was observed at any level of Met inclusion. Numerical variations suggested a positive effect of Tau provision at the mid‐level of supplementation (6–8 g/kg DM). The best‐fit response model (5‐SKM), fitted to the percentage body weight gain data of fish fed diets with an adequate level of Met, suggested a relatively weak pattern of response (R2 = 0.183) and predicted a Tau requirement of 5.47 g/kg DM (9.64 g/kg CP) similar to that reported for several other species. It was concluded that taurine appears to be conditionally essential to barramundi, whereby provision in the diet when sulphur amino acid supply is insufficient to meet biosynthetic demands may be beneficial, but that the predicted requirement is likely reasonably accurate for use as a minimum level of inclusion.  相似文献

Information on specific nutrients like taurine is important to support a nutritionally balanced diet for marine species such as totoaba Totoaba macdonaldi under culture conditions. Eight isoproteic (50%) and isolipidic (12%) experimental diets were formulated to contain graded levels of taurine (0.23%, 0.45%, 0.91%, 1.28%, 1.76%, 2.20%, 2.72%, 3.01% as‐is) using ethanol‐washed fishmeal (FM) as primary protein source. Green liver, low gallbladder‐somatic index (GBSI), low apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) of lipid, low erythrocyte turnover, low plasma cholesterol and triglycerides, as well as low visceral fat, were detected in the basal diet (T‐0.23) after 10 weeks. Thermal‐unit growth coefficient (TGC) was best modelled by a five‐parameter saturation kinetic model (5‐SKM, p < .001) with marginal differences (R2 = .13) of juvenile totoaba (initial weight 10.0 ± 1.0 g). Low GBSI (0.095%) was accompanied with low ADC of lipid (78.9%) in the low‐taurine diet (T‐0.23). GBSI and ADC of lipid were best modelled by four‐parameter SKM (4‐SKM, R2=.72 and .87, respectively, p < .001). Plasma cholesterol increased linearly with dietary taurine (R2 = .75, p < .001), while plasma triglycerides increased quadratically (R2 = .53, p < .001), suggesting modulations of lipid metabolism in totoaba. Plasma bilirubin levels increased linearly, and the lowest concentration was found in the basal diet (T‐0.23); however, haematocrit and haemoglobin levels were changed slightly between the treatments. This study demonstrates that supplementation with a low level of taurine (0.45% as‐is) in a washed FM‐based diet can normalize the physiological condition of juvenile totoaba. Green liver, GBSI, ADC of lipid, plasma cholesterol and triglycerides may be informative diagnostic tools for taurine deficiency in totoaba.  相似文献

Taurine is an important amino acid derivative for marine and freshwater fish, especially during early development. We investigated the range of taurine concentrations that influence the growth and survival rates of California yellowtail (CYT; Seriola dorsalis) during transition from live feeds to microparticulate diets, as well as the extent to which nutrient leaching from the microparticulate diets affects these ranges. We tested particle‐assisted rotationally agglomerated (PARA) particles with four levels of taurine: 4 (low taurine; LT), 45 (medium taurine; MT), 93 (high taurine; HT) and 122 g/kg (very high taurine; VHT). Our results showed that CYT postlarvae had no significant differences in growth, survival and feed consumption rates between the MT, HT and VHT treatments. However, it should be noted that the PARA particles containing 122 g/kg (VHT) taurine were especially prone to leaching and may have had taurine concentrations as low as 34.9 g/kg before they settled on the bottom of the tank. Therefore, the actual dietary taurine concentrations experienced by the larvae were likely lower than the initial dietary concentrations. More research is needed to evaluate the potential nutrient toxicity of elevated dietary taurine concentrations for marine fish larvae and juveniles.  相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary taurine on growth performance and feed utilization of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) larvae. Four plant protein‐based, isonitrogenous (400 g kg?1 protein), isoenergetic (19 MJ kg?1) diets supplemented with four taurine concentrations (0.0, 5.0, 10.0 and 15.0 g kg?1; designated as T0, T0.5, T1 and T1.5, respectively) were prepared. The diets were fed to triplicate groups of fish larvae (0.024 g average body weight), to apparent satiation, three times per day for 60 days. Larval growth rates and feed utilization efficiency were significantly improved with increasing supplemental taurine up to 10 g kg?1 and decreased with further taurine supplementation. The quadratic regression analyses indicated that the maximum larval performance occurred at about 9.7 g kg?1 of total dietary taurine. Fish survival was significantly lower at 15 g kg?1 dietary taurine than at other taurine levels. Body protein significantly increased, while body moisture and ash decreased, with increasing dietary taurine up to 10 g kg?1 and decreased with further taurine supplementation to 15 g kg?1. Body lipid was not significantly affected by dietary taurine concentration. A number of body amino acids (tryptophan, arginine, histidine, leucine, isoleucine, valine, alanine, glycine, threonine and taurine) significantly increased with increasing supplemental taurine up to 10 g kg?1 and then decreased with further increase in dietary taurine levels. The rest of body amino acids were not significantly affected by dietary taurine. The present results suggest that about 9.7 g kg?1 dietary taurine is required for optimum performance of Nile tilapia larvae fed soybean meal‐based diets.  相似文献

A 12‐week feeding trial was conducted to determine the dietary threonine requirement of fingerling Indian major carp, Catla catla (3.35 ± 0.11 cm; 0.59 ± 0.06 g). Six casein‐gelatin based (33% crude protein; 3.23 kcal g?1 digestible energy) amino acid test diets with graded levels of analysed threonine (0.74%, 0.96%, 1.21%, 1.48%, 1.72% and 1.93% dry diet) were fed to satiation to triplicate groups of fish. Absolute weight gain (g per fish), feed conversion ratio, protein retention efficiency, threonine deposition, RNA/DNA ratio and carcass protein significantly improved with the increase in dietary threonine and peaked at 1.48% of the dry diet. Haematological indices were also found to be best in fish fed at 1.48% threonine diet. Quadratic regression analysis of absolute weight gain, feed conversion ratio, protein retention efficiency, threonine deposition, RNA/DNA ratio, carcass protein, haemoglobin (g dL?1), haematocrit (%) and RBCs (106 × mm?3) at 95% of maximum and minimum response exhibited the threonine requirement of fingerling C. catla between 1.35% and 1.48% dry diet, corresponding to 4.09–4.48% dietary protein. Present finding would be useful in formulating threonine‐balanced feeds for the intensive culture of C. catla.

Two growth studies (56 days) were conducted with juvenile all male Oreochromis niloticus, using six mixed diets with threonine and five mixed diets, with methionine as the first limiting amino acid (LAA), respectively. Diets were randomly assigned to four repetition tanks with 25 fish per tank. Growth results and body nutrient analyses yielded protein deposition data depending on the uptake of the LAA. For further modelling, a nonlinear N‐utilization model was utilized for assessing the dietary efficiency of threonine and methionine utilization, respectively. By use of the observed dietary AA efficiency, threonine and methionine requirement data were established, depending on the daily protein deposition. The optimal dietary AA concentrations (8.3 g kg−1 versus 9.9 g kg−1 threonine; 7.3 g kg−1 versus 8.8 g kg−1 methionine) were derived for 70% of the potential for protein deposition (NDmaxT) and predicted daily feed intake (3% versus 2.5% of BW). Observed methionine requirements are imposing for the upper limit for methionine replacement by cystine and minimal catabolism of methionine to yield cystine. Generally, the modelling provided requirement data in line with current recommendations. Variation of the dietary AA efficiency by modelling procedure ranks this factor as very important for the conclusion of amino acid requirement data.  相似文献

Three trials were run to identify the limiting dietary amino acids in practical, soy‐based formulations for California yellowtail juveniles. In the first trial, four diets were formulated with 20% fish meal and 43% soy protein concentrate. The basal diet was supplemented with methionine, lysine, and taurine (MLT), and each supplement was then individually deleted in three additional diets (LT, MT, and ML). A significant decrease in growth was only seen in fish fed the ML diet. The second and third trials were designed to test graded levels of dietary taurine and methionine, respectively. Dietary taurine ranged from 0.32 to 1.5%, and methionine levels ranged from 0.95 to 1.19% of the diet with constant levels of cysteine (0.73%). While weight gains were considered adequate to detect a dietary amino acid deficiency, there was no significant effect of graded levels of either taurine or methionine on final weights, growth rates, survival, or feed efficiency. In conclusion, the practical diets tested required taurine supplementations, but did not require lysine or methionine supplementation. While these data are insufficient to determine the taurine or methionine requirement of California yellowtail, it provides minimum levels likely to meet these requirements. Additional research is necessary to determine taurine and methionine requirements precisely in this species.  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of different taurine levels on the conjugated bile acid composition and growth of juvenile rockfish. Five taurine level diets were made by the supplementation of taurine (0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0%) to a basal diet. Fish meal washed with 70% ethanol to exclude taurine was used for the sole protein source. Feeding experiments were accomplished at 15°C using juvenile fish (initial BW: 13.5 g). Fish were fed the experimental diets for 4 months. At the end of experiments, fish were weighed and stored at ?80°C for analysis of free amino acids and conjugated bile acids contents. The growth performance and feed efficiency of Korean rockfish were improved by taurine supplementation in the experimental diets. The taurine contents of the whole body increased with the increase in the taurine supplementation. The primary conjugated bile acids in gall bladder were taurocholic acid (83.5–165.6 mg mL?1) and taurochenodeoxycholic acid (6.3–20.0 mg mL?1). Total bile acids increased with increases in dietary taurine. Taurocholic acid content was more than 95% of the total conjugated bile acids. This indicates that taurine is the sole amino acid to make conjugated bile acid in Korean rockfish. Dietary taurine levels improved the conjugated bile acid composition in juvenile Korean rockfish.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   The effects of dietary taurine levels and lipid contents on the conjugated bile acid composition and growth performance of juvenile Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus were investigated. Six types of diet (three different levels of taurine at two different levels of lipid) were fed to juveniles (average body weight, 0.04 g). Fishmeal that was washed with 70% ethanol to remove taurine was used as the sole protein source. Feeding experiments were carried out at 20°C for 6 weeks. At the end of the experiments, fish were weighed and analyzed for free amino acids in the body and the composition of the conjugated bile acids. The body weight and percent weight gain of the juveniles were improved by the dietary taurine supplementation. The taurine contents of the whole body and tissues increased with the increase of the dietary taurine contents. The conjugated bile acids in the gall bladder consisted of taurocholic acid and taurochenodeoxycholic acid, which increased with the increase of the dietary taurine level. Taurocholic acid accounted for more than 95% of the total conjugated bile acids. This indicates that taurine is the sole amino acid to conjugate bile acid in Japanese flounder.  相似文献

Dietary arginine requirement of fingerling Catla catla (3.55 ± 0.05 cm; 0.61 ± 0.02 g) was determined by feeding casein–gelatin‐based isonitrogenous (33% crude protein) and isocaloric (3.40 kcal/g digestible energy) amino acid test diets containing six graded levels of l ‐arginine (1, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2, and 2.25% dry diet) for 12 wk. Maximum absolute weight gain (6.93 g/fish), protein efficiency ratio (2.13), protein deposition (0.36), arginine retention efficiency (78%), and best feed conversion ratio (1.42) were recorded in fish fed 1.75% arginine of the dry diet. Maximum carcass protein (15.57%) and RNA/DNA ratio (4.79) were also recorded for the group fed 1.75% arginine of the dry diet. Quadratic regression analysis at 95% maximum or minimum response of above growth parameters yielded optimum arginine requirement of fingerling C. catla at 1.67% of the dry diet. On the basis of the above analysis of the growth parameters, it is recommended that the inclusion of dietary arginine at 1.67% of the dry diet is optimum for formulating arginine‐balanced, cost‐effective quality feeds for the mass culture of fingerling C. catla .  相似文献

A feeding trial was designed to assess the effects of dietary protein and lipid content on growth, feed utilization efficiency, body composition, and hematological indices of juvenile filefish, Stephanolepis cirrhifer. Eight experimental diets were formulated with a combination of four protein (35, 40, 45, and 50%) and two dietary lipid levels (7 and 14%). Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of fish (3.2 ± 0.06 g) to apparent satiation for 8 wk. Fish growth performance and feed utilization were significantly affected by increasing dietary protein and lipid levels, with no significant interactions between factors. The highest growth performance value, in terms of weight gain, was observed in groups fed the diets with 50% protein (399%). However, fish fed the diet containing 45% protein had comparable growth (357%) while achieving relatively higher protein efficiency ratio. Hepatosomatic index was significantly affected by interaction of dietary lipid and protein with the highest values observed in those fish fed the highest protein (45–50%) and lipid (14%) diets. There was a significant increase in body lipid content (5.1 to 6.6%) and a decrease in body protein (15.8 to 14.8%) and ash (2.47 to 2.16%) with increasing dietary lipid levels from 7 to 14%. Muscle lipid content was significantly affected by both dietary protein and lipid levels and tended to increase with increasing dietary protein and lipid levels, ranging from 0.13 to 1.20%. Liver lipid content (65.9 to 68.7%) was significantly increased with the increase in dietary lipid levels while liver moisture content (28.9 to 25.9%) showed a clear decreasing trend. Hematological values were also altered with the increase in either dietary protein or lipid levels. These findings may suggest that a diet containing 45% protein and 7% lipid, with a protein to energy ratio of 23.8 mg/kJ, could deliver sufficient nutrient and energy to support acceptable growth and feed utilization and avoid excessive fat deposition in juvenile filefish.  相似文献

Six extruded dry diets formulated to contain one of two levels of digestible protein (37% or 44%) and one of three levels of digestible lipid (16%, 23% or 30%) on a dry weight basis and a seventh diet (commercial control) were used to feed triplicate groups of post‐juvenile coho salmon Oncorhynchus kisutch in sea water. Fish were fed to satiation twice daily for 168 days. Growth performances were monitored every 28 days. On day 168, samples were taken from each replicate group per dietary treatment for determinations of whole‐body and muscle proximate compositions. Fatty acid compositions and astaxanthin concentration in both the experimental diets and fish flesh were assessed by gas chromatography (GC) and high‐performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) respectively. Coho salmon fed diets containing the higher lipid levels (23–30%) exhibited improved feed efficiency, protein efficiency ratio, percentage protein deposition and percentage gross energy utilization. Higher protein content diets supported better growth than those that had lower protein content, but the former led to lowered protein efficiency ratio, percentage protein deposition and gross energy utilization. Fish fed the diets with high lipid levels (23% or 30%) also had higher astaxanthin content in raw flesh.  相似文献

Dietary lysine requirement of fingerling Heteropneustes fossilis (6.96 ± 0.05 g) was quantified by conducting 12‐week feeding trial in a flow‐through system at 28°C. Casein–gelatin based isonitrogenous (38% CP) and isocaloric (14.7 kJ g?1 DE) amino acid test diets with six levels of dietary lysine (1.5%, 1.75%, 2.0%, 2.25%, 2.5%, 3.0% dry diet) were fed to apparent satiation in triplicates. Broken‐line and second‐degree polynomial regression analyses at 95% plateau of absolute weight gain (AWG; g fish?1), feed conversion ratio (FCR), protein deposition (PD; g fish?1) and lysine deposition (LD; g fish?1) exhibited lysine requirement between 2.0% to 2.3% of the dry diet, corresponding to 5.3–6.1% protein.  相似文献

Juvenile channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus were fed casein–gelatin‐based semi‐purified test diets with graded amounts of arginine (ARG, 0.5%, 1%, 2% and 4% of dry diet) for a 6‐week period, to evaluate the effects of dietary ARG supplementation on performance indicators, levels of plasma ARG, ornithine, citrulline, glutamine and glutamate, as well as selected innate immune parameters. Incremental dietary ARG resulted in significant improvements in weight gain, feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratios, protein retention, protein deposition and arginine deposition. Fish fed the 4% ARG diet had significantly higher values for all performance indicators, although these values were not different from those of fish fed the 2% ARG diet with the exception of protein retention, protein deposition and arginine deposition. Conversely, fish fed the 0.5% ARG diet had significantly lower values for all analysed plasma amino acids. Similarly, both phagocyte superoxide anion production and neutrophil respiratory burst were significantly decreased in fish fed the 0.5% ARG diet. These results demonstrate that the indispensability of dietary ARG is not only related to optimized protein utilization for growth but also its supplementation to fish diets may significantly impact several aspects of the immune system, including phagocyte function and thus improve overall fish health.  相似文献

An 8‐week feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of different taurine levels on the growth performance of juvenile white shrimp fed with low‐fishmeal diets. Six level diets of dietary taurine were prepared by the supplementation of taurine (0, 0.4 g kg?1, 0.8 g kg?1, 1.2 g kg?1, 2.0 g kg?1 and 4.0 g kg?1) to a control diet (100 g kg?1 fish meal). Each diet was randomly assigned to triplicate groups of 30 shrimps (0.48 ± 0.0 g), each three times daily. Shrimp fed the 0.4 g kg?1 and 0.8 g kg?1 taurine‐supplemented diets, showed significantly higher weight gain, protein efficiency ratio and protein retention efficiency than those of shrimp fed the other diets. The quadratic regression analysis (y = ?55.59x2 + 187.1x + 750.2 R² = 0.587) indicated that a maximum weight gain occurring at 1.68 g kg?1 of taurine level. The whole body and hepatopancreas taurine contents of the taurine‐supplemented diets were on the same level and higher than those of the control group. Total free amino acid content in the hepatopancreas was significantly affected by taurine supplementation. The results of the present study demonstrate that the white shrimps require taurine as an essential nutrient for growth performance.  相似文献

To investigate the dietary effect of taurine on the larval stage of tuna species, Pacific bluefin tuna (PBF) and yellowfin tuna (YFT), larvae were reared until 16 days after hatching (dAH) and 14 dAH, respectively, and replicate samples were fed either non‐taurine‐enriched rotifers (T‐0) or rotifers enriched with 800 mg taurine L?1 (T‐800). Most PBF and YFT larvae were at the preflexion stage until 7 and 8 dAH, and there were no differences in the growth performance and total protein content of larvae between the T‐0 and T‐800 groups (t‐test; P > 0.05). Thereafter, however, for larvae of both species, these parameters in the T‐800 group significantly increased with enhanced notochord development compared to those in T‐0 group (t‐test; P < 0.05). Except for the RNA content in PBF larvae, there were no significant differences in changes of DNA and RNA content with larval growth between the T‐0 and T‐800 groups, but both PBF and YFT larvae showed increased protein DNA?1 and protein RNA?1 ratios in the T‐800 group compared to the T‐0 group after notochord flexion. This indicates that taurine is an important nutrient for the rapid growth of early stage PBF and YFT larvae, and we conclude that the growth improvement of PBF and YFT larvae by dietary taurine supplementation is due to the increase in protein synthesis efficiency after notochord flexion.  相似文献
