This study focused on the concentration change of heavy metals of sediment cores in heavily polluted north area and less polluted middle area of Fuxian Lake in Southwest China.On the basis of the analysis of Cu,Ni,Ti,V,Pb,Cd,and Zn concentration-depth profiles,the pollution history of heavy metals was studied using 137cesium (137Cs) dating.The sources of heavy metals were distinguished by normalization of their profiles to aluminum and analysis of heavy metal concentrations of potential source materials.Geoaccumulation index (Igeo) was used to quantify their contamination intensity.The results showed that all the heavy metals found in the Fuxian Lake sediments originated naturally before 1980s.Cu,Ni,Ti,and V were still mainly natural in the north lake after 1980s,Cu,Ni,Ti,V,and Pb were mainly natural in the middle lake at all time,but the concentrations of Pb and Zn in the north lake were influenced by industrial wastes from the phosphorus fertilizer factory and cement plants.In all the lake,the contaminations of Cd and Zn were the results of agricultural cultivation using a large amount of fertilizers and the atmospheric fallouts of dusts from cement plants.At present,the geoaccumulation indices showed that the Fuxian Lake sediments were moderately to strongly polluted by Cd in the middle lake,and unpolluted to moderately polluted by Pb and Zn and strongly polluted by Cd in the north lake.Moreover,the pollution intensities of Cd,Zn,and Pb have been increased since 1980s.  相似文献

Heavy metal concentrations were investigatedin the overbank sediments in the middle reach of the regulatedOdra River, in south-west Poland. Samples of sediments weretaken in 20 vertical profiles to a depth of 70 cm at 1–20 cmintervals. Regulation and lateral stability of the riverchannel for over 150 years enabled to follow the decrease indepth of the Cu and Pb concentration peaks across thefloodplain. These peaks were recognised at different depth ofthe particular profiles: at about 40 cm in the inter-groininfills several meters from a river bank, at 25 cm in thelevee at the edge of the floodplain, at several cm in crevassesplays and depressions parallel to flood-protectionembankments. These peaks are correlated with maximum Cu and Pbemission and discharge of the mine effluents polluted withheavy metals in the Legnica Copper District at about 1980.Moreover, in profiles localised close to river banks, thereare two peaks of Zn concentrations. The upper peak was datedat about 1987 and seems to be associated with the changes inamount of effluents discharged to surface waters in the upperand middle Odra River catchment. The lower one was dated atthe first half of the 1940s and can be related to changes inindustrial potential and population density after World WarII. Dates of sediment layers in different vertical profilesshow that the highest rate of sediment accretion, 10–20mm yr-1, has occurred in the inter-groin infills. Much lowerrate, 3–6 mm yr-1, has typified the levee on the 3 m-highfloodplain and the lowest one, up to 1–2 mm yr-1, is found increvasse splays on the flood plain.  相似文献

Old (>100 years, situated below 15 cm depth) sediment layers, of two humic forest lakes contained 400 to 600 mg of solvent soluble organic halogen (EOX) (kg C)-1. This was two to three fold more than in the most recent layers at the depth of 0 to 10 cm. Sediment accumulation of EOX in humic forest lakes correlated positively with the sediment accumulation of organic matter. Lake water concentration of adsorbable organic halogen (AOX) correlated positively with water concentration of total organic carbon (TOC) and with the water colour in the different strata, seasons and lakes. These facts suggest that organic halogen in boreal humic lakes originated from the drainage area. Paleolimnological study of diatom remains showed that sediment concentration of organic halogen correlated negatively with the historical pH of the lake water column. This fact supports a view that the presence of organic halogen was promoted by haloperoxidase type of enzyme, which is most active at low pH (3.5 to 4). The dates of forest management events (clear cutting, prescribed burning) matched with the observed changes in lake water column historical pH and decrease in sediment content organic halogen in dated sediment layers. Clear cutting and prescribed burning are known to increase soil pH. This may decrease the intrinsic formation of organic halogens in soil, thereby decreasing the flow of organic halogens from the runoff area to the forest lake. Our results support a conclusion that changes in natural organically bound halogen in the sediment were promoted by acidification, forest fires and forest management in the drainage area. The organic halogen content in the most polluted layer of the pulp mill recipient sediment was 10 to 100 fold as compared to forest lake sediments.  相似文献

The concentrations of, and deposition rates for, the pollutant metals (Pb, Cu, Zn, Ni, and Cd) and the rare earth elements are reported for the sediments and settling particulates in a large, remote lake (Lake Opeongo) in the Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario. Using a mass conservation model based on the rare earth elements, it is estimated that only 40 to 60% of pollutant metals getting into the lake is retained by the sediments. The low retention anada rate may explain the widely reported intra-basin and intra-lake differences in metal contents of sediments and casts some doubt on the use of pollutant metal profiles in retrospective assessment of the human contribution to the metal flux into many lake basins.  相似文献

Concentrations of Cu, Ni, Fe, and Mg in soil/sediment material from 25 wetlands in the Sudbury, Ontario, region decline logarithmically with increasing distance from several ore smelters. Total Cu and Ni reach concentrations potentially toxic to plant life in soil/sediment material near the smelters. Despite random variation in soil/sediment pH and Eh, NH4OAc extractable Cu, Ni and Fe, and DTPA extractable Cu Ni and Mg show the same pattern as total Cu, Ni, Fe, and Mg. The failure of DTPA extractable Fe to show the same pattern as total Fe may be due to the inadequacy of the DTPA soil test when testing Fe in acid soils. Soil/sediment organic C content increases with distance from the smelters, but is unrelated to pH or Eh.  相似文献

Suspended sediments from the lower Changjiang (Yangtze River) were sampled to determine concentrations of Cu, Cd, Pb, Ni, and Cr. The particulate trace element values in the Changjiang are higher than in the Huanghe (Yellow River), but lower than in the other large Chinese rivers (e.g. Pearl River) and polluted rivers. A general pattern of high element levels in the clay minerals and low element concentrations in coarse sediment fractions are observed in the Changjiang. Sequential extraction shows the predominance of metals in the residual fraction relative to labile fractions in the Changjiang, emphasizing the importance of natural weathering and erosion in the drainage basin on the transport of particulate metals. Elevated Enrichment Factors (EF: the ratio of element concentration in microsurface to that in subsurface layer minus 1.0) suggest a potential influence of atmospheric input on the concentrations of particulate metals in the river.  相似文献

以青木关岩溶槽谷区内代表性耕地型与林地型洼地小流域为研究对象,从洼地沉积物入手,探明各洼地沉积物剖面~(137)Cs比活度、六六六(HCHs)、有机质、黏粒含量及容重的深度分布特征;运用~(137)Cs示踪法,辅以HCHs进行沉积物断代,追溯流域近60年来的土壤侵蚀量演变特征及探讨其驱动因素。结果表明:(1)炮台院子耕地型洼地沉积物剖面~(137)Cs、HCHs仅有个别层位检出,无法利用~(137)Cs、HCHs深度分布进行沉积物断代,反映了发育的落水洞对其沉积物剖面影响大。(2)龙洞槽耕地型和劳动村林地型洼地小流域1963—1983,1984—2019年产沙模数分别为231.78,82.04 t/(km~2·a)和68.79,39.46 t/(km~2·a),表明流域生态环境得到明显改善。与1963—1983年时段相比,该地区1984—2019年时段年平均降水量无明显变化,2个小流域产沙模数均显著减小,表明近60年流域产沙强度主要受土地利用方式、水土保持措施等人类活动控制。(3)龙洞槽洼地剖面~(137)Cs、HCHs峰值,表层泥沙~(137)Cs、HCHs数值和不同时期流域产沙模数均明显大于劳动村洼地,主要是由2个洼地分别控制的耕地型与林地型小流域在人类活动影响下产沙强度的差异所致。另外,~(137)Cs和HCHs相结合的示踪方法可较好地用于评估西南岩溶流域产沙量的时间变化。  相似文献

Concentrations of pollutants stored in the surficial bed sediments in the navigation pools of the Upper Mississippi River showed a general decrease after the record flood of 1993. Percent clay and total organic carbon in the surficial sediments decreased as a result of an increase in the proportion of coarser sediment. Decreases in pollutant concentration may have been a result of the dilution by coarser and relatively less polluted sediment that was mobilized and transported into the Upper Mississippi River from its tributaries or from mainstem locations upstream but outside of the sampling area.  相似文献

Heavy metals and some major element concentrations were investigated in overbank sediments and stream bed sediments of the ephemeral Beal wadi creek in the Cartagena-La Union mining district (SE Spain). Two vertical sediment profiles were extracted and the chemical and mineralogical compositions were both investigated by X-ray fluorescence and X-ray diffraction. Geochemical variations in vertical profiles of these two kinds of sediments allow observing noticeable heavy metals pollution (especially Fe, Pb, and Zn) in both kind of sediments but especially in the overbank sediments (reaching values of approximately 13% Fe, 6% Pb, and 6% Zn). A single extraction (DIN 38414-S4 leaching test) was made to observe the transfer of metals from solids to liquid phase. Pb, Zn, Cu, and Cd contents surpass the leaching values established by the DIN 38414-S4 limits established by Spanish legislation to consider these wastes as hazardous wastes. Geochemical comparison between leaching behavior of the two types of sediments reveals a major ability of overbank sediments in transferring heavy metals to the water flow.  相似文献

Nutrient (C, N and P) and metal (Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn) content and dynamics of suspended and channel bed sediments were analysed within the rural Attert River basin (Luxembourg). This basin is representative of the main physiographic characteristics of the country, where there is currently little information available on the composition and dynamics of fluvial sediment. Stream bed fine-grained sediment samples (n?=?139) collected during low flow conditions and time-integrated suspended sediment samples (n?=?183) collected during storm runoff events (October 2005 to April 2008) in seven nested basins ranging from 0.45 to 247?km2 were analysed. Nutrient and metal spatial patterns, temporal trends and the relationship between their content and storm runoff characteristics (e.g. maximum discharge and sediment concentration) were assessed. Results showed a high spatial and temporal variability, mainly associated with basin characteristics and local inputs. Higher values of total C were measured in the highly forested basins located in the northern part of the Attert River basin, whereas the highest values of total P were mainly associated with material coming from grassland and with the inflow of wastewater treatment plants (i.e. higher values of total P were measured in the southern part of the basin). The abundance of metals, not only in suspended but also in channel bed sediments, was generally as follows: Zn > Cr > Ni > Pb > Cu. Both nutrient and metal concentrations were at a maximum at the beginning of the wet season, after having been accumulated during the summer. These values tended to decrease during autumn and winter due to sediment mobilisation, and a higher flow capacity to transport coarser particle fractions from the sources. In general, concentrations of nutrients and metals on suspended sediment were negatively correlated with antecedent precipitation, total precipitation, total specific discharge and maximum discharge, which has been previously associated to a ??dilution?? effect during storm runoff events. Results show that both sediment sources and hydrologic events play an important role on the spatial and temporal variability of sediment-associated nutrient and metal contents.  相似文献

Purpose

Many drainage basins are terminal recipients of hydrophobic contaminants such as pesticides. To minimize adverse effects of the contaminated sediments on wildlife, it is important to understand sediment contamination patterns. This study was conducted at the Salton Sea, which is a heavily polluted large lake in southern California, USA, with the purpose to identify areas with minimal contamination so as to support species conservation.

Materials and methods

We investigated the horizontal and vertical distribution of 14 organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and 12 currently used pesticides (CUPs) in playas at locations near the drainage outfalls. The data were subjected to spatial analysis using Kriging interpolation and converted to contour maps. Statistical comparisons were made among different areas, between different sediment depths, and between air-exposed and submerged sediments.

Results and discussion

Various OCPs were found near two drainage inlets, with mean concentrations of 6?C30???g?kg?1 in air-exposed sediments and 3?C18???g?kg?1 in submerged sediments. Chlordane (detected frequency, DF?=?77?%) and DDT derivatives (DF?=?100?%) were among the most frequently detected OCP. Significantly higher concentrations were found in air-exposed sediments than in submerged sediments, and in subsurface sediments than in surface sediments (P?<?0.01), suggesting historical deposition and burial. Sediments at many locations exceeded the threshold levels for DDE. A total of seven CUPs were detected with the maximum ??CUPs concentration of up to 27???g?kg?1. Bifenthrin was the dominant CUP contaminant, representing more than 60?% of ??CUPs for most samples with the highest concentration of 26???g?kg?1.

Conclusions

Findings from this study provide a snapshot of the spatial distribution in both horizontal and vertical directions of hydrophobic pesticides in a drainage-dominated lake, and such information and the method of investigation may be used for identifying areas of minimal contamination as alternative habitats for this and other impacted lakes.  相似文献

River floodplains have been recognised as important sinks for storing suspended sediment and associated contaminants mobilised from the upstream catchment. However, information on contemporary rates of overbank sedimentation is difficult to obtain using conventional methods. Measurements of the 137Cs content of floodplain sediments provide an alternative approach to obtaining; estimates of medium-term rates (ca. 40 years) of overbank sediment deposition. The 137Cs approach requires only a single site visit and minimum sample preparation. Furthermore, it is capable of providing information on spatial patterns of sediment deposition on floodplains, which is needed to improve our understanding of the processes involved in overbank flow and sediment deposition. This paper reviews the basis for using 137Cs measurements in floodplain sedimentation studies and presents improved procedures for interpreting 137Cs profiles in floodplain sediments and for obtaining estimates of sedimentation rates from single measurements of the total. 137Cs inventories of bulk sediment cores. The results obtained from a case study undertaken on the floodplain of the River Stour, Dorset, UK, are presented.  相似文献

The space-time distribution of some pollutants (Cu, Ph, Zn, Cd, Fe, Mn, V, Ni, Cr) in the sludge of the canals of Venice was studied. The contamination levels were comparable to, or higher, than those measured in the most polluted sediments of the Lagoon of Venice Sediments were collected by two different sampling techniques I ) collection of sediment cores (upper 5 cm) by a syringe-type corer, 2) collection by traps, placed on the bottom of the canal Traps pennitted the sampling of sediments essentially resuspended by overlying water turbulence This sediment fraction is subjected to variations of its physicochemical parameters (principally change of redox conditions) and therefore to pollutant exchange at the water/sediment interface The metals principally exchanged during sediment resuspension were Cd, Pb, Zn and Cu These metals have principally an anthropogenic origin and are bound to the most labile geochemical phases of the sediment (such as sulphides), which can be oxidised during sediment resuspension, releasing metals into the water Fe, Cr and Ni were only partially exchanged, while Mn and V were generally not exchanged, a significant fraction of these metals is of natural origin and is bound to the most refractory phases of the sediment.  相似文献

The Han River, which is the largest river in Korea, is the primary source of drinking water for the 20 million people that live in the Seoul metropolitan and surrounding areas. The sediments in the river are highly polluted due to pollutant inputs from upstream tributaries as well as from partially treated municipal wastewaters. To characterize the contamination of the sediments, disturbed and undisturbed sediment samples were periodically collected from eight locations of the mid-to-lower Han River. They were analyzed for pH, water content, total solids, ignition loss (IL), total phosphorous (TP), total Kjehldahl nitrogen (TKN), and chemical oxygen demand (COD). The mean values of pollutant concentrations in disturbed sediment were determined to be 6.9% for IL, 1,700 mg/kg for TP, 3,350 mg/kg for TKN, and 65,710 mg/kg for COD. Pollutant concentrations of undisturbed samples were found to decrease with sediment depth and time due to the removal mechanism. Monitoring of pre- and post-dredging conditions was also performed, and the results show that the pollutant concentrations decreased from those for the pre-dredging condition to 33–57% for TP, 51–64% for TKN, and 30–62% for COD. It is concluded that dredging was an effective means to reduce the internal pollutant source.  相似文献

Eight soil profiles were sampled from the upland and lowland components of four glacial-fluvial landforms in the Blue Springs drainage basin, Guelph, Ontario. Sediment stratification in these soils was established at depths where statistically significant changes in the values of the ratios of % total sand/% total silt that are calculated on clay-free and carbonate-free basis take place. Limits of significance for differences between populations of stratified sediments were established from the standard error of determination of the ratios of % total sand/% total silt at the 0.01 probability level. A texturally uniform sediment is characterized by a regression line in which the depth (X) is the independent variable and the value of the ratio of % total sand/% total silt (Y) corresponding to the depth is the dependent variable.  相似文献

Sulphur and heavy metal deposition in northern Finland (= in Lapland) and the Kola Peninsula were surveyed using Scots pine bark samples. Sulphur concentrations in bark close to the Kola smelters were on an average twice as high as on the Finnish side of the border. The Cu and Ni concentrations near the smelters were almost 100-fold the mean values in northern Finland. There was a marked decrease in the sulphur and heavy metal concentrations with increasing distance from the emission sources. The effects of emission from the Kola Peninsula were evident in Finland only close to the border, especially in the eastern parts of Inari (NE corner of Lapland) where the Cu and Ni concentrations were 2- to 6-fold those in western Lapland. The sulphur and heavy metal concentrations in most of northern Finland were low. However were the concentrations of Cr in bark in the SW corner of Lapland considerably high, due to the emissions from the Tornio refined steel plants.  相似文献

深入探究农田排水沟水体与底泥界面微环境对界面间物质交换和迁移转化具有重要意义,为了明确不同水力联系的排水沟界面微环境特征,该研究利用微电极测量系统对陕西卤泊滩盐碱化改良区和盐荒地2种水力条件差异较大的排水沟水体与底泥界面微环境进行了研究。结果表明:改良区与盐荒地排水沟水体水质指标和底泥含水率、有机质、硫酸盐含量等方面均存在不同程度的差异,底泥含水率自表层向下逐渐减小;改良区与盐荒地底泥氧气最大渗透深度分别为10.2和2.6 mm,扩散边界层厚度分别为0.4~0.8 mm和0.2~0.4 mm;改良区排水沟底泥硫化氢浓度小于10μmol/L,而盐荒地高至178μmol/L。研究结果可为研究区及类似地区利用排水沟渠湿地控制和治理农业面源污染、改善农田生态环境提供参考。  相似文献

While the presence of fecal indicator bacteria such as Escherichia coli in urban stormwater has been widely documented, their occurrence and persistence in sediments are not as well understood. Recent investigations suggest that E. coli can accumulate in drainage basin sediments and act as a fecal bacterial reservoir within a watershed. We investigate the prevalence of E. coli populations in a tidal creek stormwater catchment and examine their interaction with overlying stormwater under wet and dry weather conditions. Two rain events are sampled more intensively with samples collected prior to, during, and after rainfall to profile bacteria in each matrix throughout a storm. Results of profile sampling and estimates of sediment resuspension provide evidence for E. coli accumulation during dry conditions and entrainment in overlying waters during storm conditions. Profile results suggest the occurrence of steady-state E. coli populations in drainage basin sediments.  相似文献

Concentrations of heavy metals in 74 sediment samples from the Fenghe River, which originates from the north of the Qinling Mountains and flows through Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, China, were characterized by employing geographic information system (GIS) mapping, fuzzy synthetic assessment, and multivariate statistical analysis to determine the enrichment characteristics of heavy metals as well as their potential risks of pollution to sediments. Al, Cd, and Co were the major pollutants, with a high enrichment factor (EF) value. Heavy metal concentrations from samples near the paper plant were maintained at a high level. Significant enrichment of Al, Ba, Cr, Ni, Pb, and Co was found in the midstream and downstream, while high concentration of Cu occurred in the headwater stream. Based on the cluster and principal component analyses, sediment metals mainly came from the paper plants, agronomic practices, natural sources, and tourism, with a contribution of 51.59%, 23.01%, 14.21%, and 9.88%, respectively. Sediment pollution assessment explored using fuzzy theory based on the entropy method and toxicity coefficient showed that 26, 32, and 11 sites fell into Class III (slightly polluted), Class IV (moderately polluted), and Class V (heavily polluted), respectively, and their scores of membership degree in the polluted level were on the rise, suggesting a relatively high degree of sediment metal pollution in the study area. Closely related to the excessive industrial and agricultural applications, metal pollution in sediment is necessary to be addressed in the Fenghe River.  相似文献

根据2008年对渤海湾的调查,重点研究了渤海湾湾内和湾口柱状沉积物重金属的生物地球化学特征,通过剖析不同形态重金属的特征,结合渤海湾生态环境信息的综合分析,系统探讨了渤海湾沉积物重金属的演变趋势、影响控制因素以及潜在生态风险。结果表明,湾内海河口附近沉积柱重金属含量有几次突变,20~22cm段极小值可对应1939年海河北系的洪水,10~12cm段极小值可对应1963年海河南系的洪水,1963年至今重金属含量有逐渐增加的趋势。不同形态重金属百分含量从大到小为:残渣态〉铁锰氧化物结合态〉碳酸盐结合态〉有机结合态〉可交换态,且重金属在海河口附近都表现出较高的可浸取态百分含量。风险评价结果表明,重金属总量富集因子由大到小为:Pb〉Cd〉Zn〉Cr〉V〉Co〉Cu〉Ni,其中Pb、Cd和Zn的富集因子均大于1,说明其有污染,但渤海湾沉积物总体质量良好,潜在生态风险较低。从重金属形态角度评价,V和Cr无污染,Zn、Co、Cu、Ni和Pb在湾内及湾外均有不同程度的污染,而Pb的污染最为严重。  相似文献
