Abstract. The endangered Australian freshwater fish trout cod, Maccullochella macquariensis (Cuvier), was the subject of a captive breeding programme to produce fry for reintroduction into the wild. Trout cod broodfish were maintained in earthen ponds for up to 5 years and underwent gonadal maturation each spring but did not spawn in the ponds. Infestations of the protozoan parasite Chilodonella hexasticha caused the death of at least 21 broodfish. Mature fish, removed from ponds when water temperatures had reached or exceeded 16°C, had a higher proportion of atretic oocytes and fewer fish spawned successfully compared to fish removed at lower temperatures. Ovulation was induced by a single injection of 1000–3000 iu/kg HCG. Between 1188 and 11338 eggs ranging from 2·5 to 3·6 mm in diameter were stripped from individual fish. Hatching commenced on days 5–9 and continued for up to 10 days (at 15·5–23°C). Larvae commenced feeding on days 21–25. Trout cod larvae were grown out to fry (363.3–48.6mm total length [TL]) in fertilized fry rearing ponds then released. Between 1986 and 1989, 8420 trout cod fry were released into several sites in the upper Murray River and upper Murrumbidgee River, and reports indicate that released fish are surviving.  相似文献

Abstract. Field-caught fry of the common wolfish, Anarhichas lupus L., and the spotted wolffish, A. minor Olafsen, were reared on a commercial dry pellet. Both species experienced the same environmental conditions, including an annual fluctuation in temperature from 5·8 to 13·7°C. The spotted wolffish reached 1·58 kg in 2 years from hatching, more than four times the weight of common wolffish (0·37kg). Analysis showed that for both species the specific growth rate decreased with increasing fish size and increasing temperature. Estimates, based upon optimum conditions, indicate that the spotted wolffish would reach a total wet weight of 5 kg (<7°C) in 2 years from hatching, and the common wolffish (7–9°C) a total wet weight of 2·5kg within that same period. Female common wolffish matured at a weight above 0·5kg, whereas those of the spotted wolffish matured at a weight above 2·5kg. The spotted wolffish had a significantly higher fillet proportion (∼50%) than the common wolffish (∼45%) and a significantly lower hepato-somatic index (3·7% and 5% respectively).  相似文献

Abstract. Four feeding trials with Israeli carp, Cyprinus carpio L., were performed in cages or in ponds in order to investigate responses to lysine supplementation of low protein carp feeds under different practical conditions. In each of the trials one of the basic conditions was different: fish size—small (80–125g) or large (560g); temperature—22°C or 26°C; density—cages or ponds. In each trial 2–3 ration sizes × 2–3 lysine levels were tested. A basal diet of 25% protein and 1·35% lysine served for all the trials.
At low feeding levels, no responses to lysine supplements were found either at 22 ± 2°C or at 26 ± 2°C (0600 h) for all fish sizes. At higher feeding levels, at both temperatures, 0·5% lysine-HCl supplements to 1·7% total lysine yielded significant growth increases. Further supplements to 2·1% lysine (=8·4% of the protein) brought an additional response only from small fish of 90g in cages at the highest ration and temperature. In ponds at 26°C, the effects on small fish of 80g were smaller, probably due to available natural food. The reduction in lysine retention suggested that 1·7% lysine might have been adequate even at optimal conditions in ponds.  相似文献

Abstract. This study was conducted to estimate spring hooking mortality of white crappie, Pomoxis annularis Rafinesque, in Buchanan Reservoir, Texas, USA and summer hooking mortality of spotted bass, Micropterus punctulatus (Rafinesque), in Eagle Mountain Reservoir, Texas, USA. Reservoir surface water temperatures averaged 19 and 31°C, during white crappie and spotted bass experiments, respectively. White crappie (mean total length (TL) 267mm, range TL 190–340mm, standard error (SE) TL 6mm) were caught with size 5 single hooks baited with golden shiner, Notemigonus crysoleucas (Mitchill), and spotted bass (mean TL 220mm, range TL 143–326mm, SE TL 7mm) were caught with artificial lures (spinners) fitted with size 4 or 5 treble hooks. Fish were held in cages for 72 h to observe delayed mortality. Four of 43 white crappie (9·3%, 95% one-tail, upper confidence limit (UCL) = 13·7%) died and four of 47 spotted bass (8·5%, UCL = 15·2%) died. One of the white crappie that died was a sublegal-length fish. The relevance of these findings to the management of white crappie and spotted bass sport fisheries is discussed. It is concluded that under any management strategy necessitating release of some portion of the catch of white crappie and spotted bass, high survival of that portion could be expected.  相似文献

Abstract. Adult oysters of Ostrea chilensis Philippi 1845, collected from the Quempilén River estuary, Ancud, Chile, were subjected to different temperature (14,17 and 20°C) and feeding treatments (daily rations of dry weight algae equivalent to 0.75% and 1.5% mean dry flesh wt) to measure their influence on gonad maturation. Males spawned under all these experimental conditions, after 25-27 conditioning days, while females spawned only at the same time at the higher temperatures (17 and 20°C). At high food ration (1.5%), the incubation period lasted for 29 days at 20°C, and 44 days at 17°C. At half food ration (0.75%), however, the incubation period was 24 days at 20°C and lasted for more than 54 days at 17°C, longer than under the natural estuary conditions. Larger larvae and better settlement were obtained from oysters kept at 17°C and high food ration (1.5%).  相似文献

Recent advances on feeding in intensive rearing of juvenile astacids enable research of other factors influencing growth and survival without the confounding effect of inadequate feeding. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of the number of shelters per crayfish and to test different lighting conditions. Stage 2 juvenile Pacifastacus leniusculus were stocked in fibreglass tanks and fed a dry diet for salmonids combined with restricted amounts of decapsulated Artemia cysts. In experiment 1, four, two or one shelters per crayfish were tested for 80 days. No significant differences were found among groups either in survival (final mean: 86.67%) or in growth [final mean: 11.41 mm mean carapace length (CL), 355.45 mg mean weight]. In experiment 2, three lighting conditions were tested for 120 days: continuous lighting of 925 lx, continuous darkness and natural photoperiod. Survival rates ranged from 76.7% to 88.3%, with no significant differences among groups. The crayfish kept under continuous darkness grew faster (final mean: 12.70 mm CL, 543.08 mg weight) than those reared under the other two light conditions. This study shows that, under improved feeding conditions, a minimum number of shelters can be provided, and faster growth can be obtained in continuous darkness.  相似文献

Abstract. The effect of stocking density on growth and survival of Oreochromis niloticus (L.) fry was evaluated. O. niloticus fry (average weight, 10·56 ± 0·28mg and average length. 9·09 ± 0·05nim) were stocked in 2–1 tanks at 2, 5, 10, 15 and 20 fry/1 and reared for 33 days post fertilization, at 30°C (±1°C). Mean lengths, mean weights, and specific growth rates were found to be significantly lower ( P < 0·05) at the higher stocking densities. The coefficient of variation for the five stocking densities was significantly ( P < 0·05) different. Condition factors, however, were not significantly ( P < 0·05) different and survival was high at all density treatments. These data suggest that the culture of O. niloticus is feasible at the density groups tested but 5–10fry/I is recommended for fry culture in the hatchery, if a more uniform size is desired.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   The development of embryos, larvae and juveniles of the Ryukyu-ayu, Plecoglossus altivelisryukyuensis are described based on laboratory-reared specimens. The eggs were spherical, 0.98–1.18 mm (mean 1.06 mm)in diameter with an adherent membrane. The incubation period after fertilizationwas approximately 155 h at a water temperature of 19.7–22.0°C(mean 20.7°C). Newly hatched larvae were 5.0–5.9 mm(mean 5.5 mm) in body length (BL) with 59–62 myotomes.Within 5 days after hatching, the larvae had attained 6.4–8.2 mm(mean 7.8 mm) BL and had completely consumed their yolk.Notochord flexion began at 13.7 mm BL and was completedby 16.3 mm BL. The rudimental dorsal, anal, pelvic andadipose fins appeared at 14.7, 16.3, 21.8 and 21.8 mm BL, respectively. All fin rays reached the same fixed number of adult fish at about28 mm BL. The comb-like teeth began to form at approximately30 mm BL and were fully developed at about 40–50 mm BL.The proportions of P. a. ryukyuensis specimens, which were consistent with adult fish, occurred at approximately40 mm BL.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   Mid-water trawl surveys were conducted from late August to late September in 1999 and 2004 in order to investigate the distribution pattern, hatch date, and growth of juvenile Pacific bluefin tuna Thunnus orientalis in the Sea of Japan. Juveniles were collected at the stations where ambient water temperature (mean water temperature from surface to 30 m deep, WT0−30) was 23.4–25.9°C, and most of them were found in waters where WT0−30 was higher than 24°C. Sampled juveniles ranged 108–280 mm fork length. Based on otolith analysis, they were estimated to grow to approximately 180 and 250 mm at 60 and 90 days old, respectively, and showed similar growth to that of Atlantic bluefin tuna in the Mediterranean Sea. The back-calculated hatch date of the samples was mostly in July and most juveniles spawned in the Sea of Japan.  相似文献

Abstract. Tench, Tinca tinca L., larvae were reared under controlled conditions at water temperatures of 28°C and 31°C during a 15-day period. Feeding with exclusively live Artemia nauplii gave best results, irrespective of rearing temperature (total length 13·6mm; average weight 31 mg; survival rate 83–85%). High survival rates of 81–88% were found also in all groups fed mixed diets, whereas growth rate of tench larvae was significantly influenced by the frequency of supplemental feeding with Artemia. When applied alone, the tested carp starter feed turned out to be insufficient for rearing the larval tench.  相似文献

Abstract. The eggs and yolk sac fry of the mouth brooding tilapia. Oreochromis mossambicus (Peters), were artificially reared in an experimental hatchery system at different temperatures. The hatchability, embryonic development of eggs and growth of yolk sac fry were studied under controlled conditions. It was shown that the upper lethal temperature for O. mossambicus eggs was above 40°C and the lower lethal temperature between 11°C and 17°C. For yolk sac fry these values lay between 34 and 40°C and 17 and 20°C respectively. Fry survival between 24·3 and 34·0°C was near to 100% while al 20°C it was less than 60%. The somatic growth rates of fry at temperature between 20 and 34·5°C up to 10 days post hatch are presented and were found to differ significantly. At 34·6°C a negative SGR was recorded during the period 6–9 days post hatching, but, during the first 6 days, the SGR at this temperature was more than four times higher than at 20°C. At the elevated temperatures, the utilization of yolk is faster and the loss of weight observed was due to starvation. This should be taken into account when incubating under artificial rearing condition so that initiation of exogenous feeding is timed most appropriately.  相似文献

Recent advances in crayfish feeding have enabled the development of size grading studies from the start of first‐feeding. A 180‐day experiment aimed at intensive rearing of Pacifastacus leniusculus was carried out under controlled conditions, evaluating the effects of size grading at two different periods from the onset of exogenous feeding. Stage 2 juveniles were stocked in fibreglass tanks at a density of 100 m2, and fed a dry diet for salmonids combined with restricted amounts of Artemia cysts. Five groups were tested: no grading, grading at 60 days (large and small size) and grading at 100 days (large and small size). After 6 months, no significant differences were found in the survival among groups (mean: 73.06%). The highest final growth (pooled results from upper and lower classes: 17.39 mm carapace length, 1.43 g weight) was achieved by the crayfish sorted at 60 days, showing significant differences from the ungraded group. Smaller crayfish graded at 60 days grew significantly faster than smaller crayfish graded at 100 days. The food conversion ratio was lower in the graded groups (mean: 2.64), showing significant differences from the ungraded group (3.23). This study shows that size grading allows a better performance and an improved feeding efficiency.  相似文献

In the present study, the effect of darkness on the timing of mating and pleopodal egg production in Astacus leptodactylus was investigated. Crayfish were exposed to three different light regimes: natural day light regime (control, mean 10.04-h light/13.96-h dark); 24-h dark (24 h D); 8-h light/16-h dark (8 L:16 D). Experiments were carried out between November 2006 and January 2007 with 36 males and 144 females. The results showed that darkness did not have an effect on the onset of mating and pleopodal egg production in the groups, but it did affect significantly the timing of individual matings; the higher percentage of ovigerous females in the darkness group at the first observation means that on average females under this condition mated and spawned earlier than in the other groups (P < 0.01). The percentage of ovigerous females exposed to constant darkness in the first observation in which crayfish started to mate and spawn was 62.50. These figures for those exposed to 16 D:8 L and control were 43.75 and 37.50%, respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that the reproduction efficiency (i.e., rate of ovigerous females) of A. leptodactylus can be enhanced under controlled conditions by exposing broodstock to constant darkness in their mating and spawning season.  相似文献

From March to May 1978 over 2 million nauplii were hatched from 34 batches of eggs obtained from five Penaeus monodon females. Females of 50–63 mm carapace length, with one eyestalk removed, spawned viable eggs repeatedly within intermoult periods of 20–30 days indicating that one impregnation was sufficient to fertilize several batches of eggs spawned within one intermoult period. A fresh impregnation was necessary after each moult. The number of eggs per batch varied from 19 000 to 460 000 (mean 217 635) and did not decrease with successive batches. The mean hatch-rate was 30.5% and the mean number of nauplii per brood was 66 000. There was a tendency to a lower hatchrate for batches of eggs produced towards the end of an intermoult period. Samples of larvae from 15 broods were cultured to the post-larval stage at densities of 40–250 larvae/l. Mean survival in 3-1 cultures was 79% but was <13% in larger-scale trials.  相似文献

Abstract.— Spawning behavior and development of spotted sand bass Paralabrax maculatofasciatus were studied in the laboratory. Captive fish (15–20 cm standard length) spawned in 100-L aquaria at 24 C and 35 ppt salinity with a controlled photoperiod (13 h light: 11 h dark). Distinct courtship coloration and displays were observed. Courtship began near noon and continued all afternoon. Spawning occurred toward the surface during late afternoon. Development from fertilization to 3 d after hatching is described. Hatching occurred in 24–25 h at 24 C. Larvae were reared in 100-L aquaria with microalgae, rotifers, and Artemia . First feeding occurred 3 d after hatching, and 5.3% survival was obtained at 17 d (4.1-mm mean notochord length, 1.7–5.5 mm range). On a diet of minced clams and fish, first maturity was reached at 7.5 mo (19.5 g mean weight, 8.3–37.9 g range and 90 mm mean standard length, 66–116 mm range).  相似文献

Abstract. The autccology of chub, Leudscus cephalus (L.), in the Renlina Stream, Greece, was carried out in an effort to obtain information on the age, growth, mortality and reproduction of this species. Fork length increment during the first year of life was 8·9cm, after which it decreased. Life span was short (maximum age 8 years) and the instantaneous mortality rates were higher for the older age-groups. Chub reached sexual maturity at the second year of life for both sexes and spawning occurred from the second fortnight of April into May, at a mean water temperature of 18°C. The relationship between fecundity ( F ) and fork length (1) was F = 0·0797 L3·63 The average density and biomass were 1·06 fish.m−2 and 11·38g.m−2 respectively. The relationship between L and the pharyngeal bone size [gape ( G ), tip ( T ) and shank ( S )] in mm and caudal fin length ( C ) (cm) can be described by the equations: L = 0·8605 + 1·550 G , L = -0·0703 + 1·332 S, L = 1·092 + 1·615 T and L = 1·032 + 2·934 C .  相似文献

With the advent of sea cucumber aquaculture in the South Pacific region, a reliable method is needed to induce large numbers of animals to spawn in captivity. Broodstock of the sea cucumber Holothuria scabra , collected from Stradbroke Island, Moreton Bay (27°90'N, 153°24'E) Australia, during the reproductive season from October to January, were used in spawning trials. During the 1997–1998 summer between one to five weeks of captivity, 100% of animals were induced to spawn in four trials at dusk on or close to a new or full moon, using nine males and nine females contained in a Reln tank and 30 cm of filtered sea water, using a 3–5 C temperature shock. H. scabra was induced to spawn in small numbers during the 1996–1997 summer despite a marked degree of weight loss, and all animals spawned during 1997–1998 with minimal loss of weight. The difference in the number of spawned eggs between animals of similar size and mean numbers of spawned eggs in consecutive trials decreased the longer animals were held in captivity before spawning. The hatch rate of eggs was reduced significantly for broodstock held for more than one month. Hatch rate and numbers of spawned eggs are important indicators of egg viability of broodstock maintained in captivity for an extended period.  相似文献

Abstract. A 156-day cage feeding trial was conducted with fingerling seabass, Lates calcarifer (Bloch), and grouper, Epinephelus tauvina (Forskal), so as to test six different dietary feeding regimes, namely no exogenous feeding (NF), frozen fish (FF), commercial shrimp finisher pellet (SP), in-house prepared dry pellet RDI (RDI) and RD2 (RD2), and an in-house prepared moist pellet (frozen fish: diet Rd1, 40:60 mixture w/w — code MP). Seabass fed FF and MP displayed the best growth response, with fish (30/m3) growing from an initial weight of 8·9g and 8·5g to a final weight of 285·5g and 257·5 g in 156 days, with a food conversion ratio of 3·77–5·10 (dry matter basis 1·15 – 1·95), and with a survival of 93·3 and 93·3% respectively. Similarly, grouper fed FF and MP also displayed the best growth response, with fish (30/m3) growing from an initial weight of 23·8 g and 25·8g to a final weight of 471·7g and 388·7g in 156 days, with a food conversion ratio of 3·53–4·16 (dry matter basis 0·89–1·06) and 1·73–2·96 (dry matter basis 1·06–1·80), and with a survival of 90 and 98·3% respectively. The results are analysed from an economical viewpoint and discussed on the basis of other published studies.  相似文献

Abstract. In July and August 1980–1987, mark-recapture experiments with noble crayfish, Astacus astacus L., were performed to estimate density in Lake Steinsfjorden, south-east Norway. Recapture rates were examined for variation according to sex, length, sampling method or length of recovery period, i.e. the time between release and recapture. Lake Steinsfjorden supports a dense, heavily exploited population of noble crayfish with few large individuals.
Recapture rates did not vary with sex, but were significantly lower among crayfish smaller than 90mm total length than for larger crayfish. Different sampling methods (baited traps and scuba) prior to marking did not influence the rate of recapture (in baited traps). When the recovery period was increased from 2 to 4 days, the recapture rate increased two- to threefold, but a further increase in the recovery period to 4–6 days did not increase the recapture rate.
The estimated density of noble crayfish varied between 013 and 036 individuals 5 70 mm total length per m2 (95% CL. varied from 84 to 280%).  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   Shell growth and age determination of Corbicula japonica were investigated from samples collected monthly at two sites and field growth experiments from November 1999 to November 2000 in Lake Shinji. Both specimens did not grow in winter when the water temperature was below 11°C, but grew rapidly from spring to early summer when the water temperature rose from 15°C to 30°C, before further growing slowly from summer to autumn after the main breeding period. The monthly marginal growth distribution of the samples indicated that the concentric groove on the shell surface was an annual growth ring. It is concluded that the age of C .  japonica in the i -ring group when the shell growth resumed in spring was i  + 0.5 ( i  = 1, 2, · · ·), because the first true growth ring was formed at 0–2 mm in shell length, which then faded with growth. Lee's phenomenon was observed in the age determination results, and thus the growth coefficient and the asymptotic shell length of the von Bertalanffy growth equation were not estimated from the samples. However, these parameters were estimated from the annual shell length increments of the experimental individuals, which were 0.331/year and 28.2 mm, respectively.  相似文献
