In sheep, alpha(2)-agonists can induce severe hypoxaemia. In goats, reports on changes in oxygenation are inconsistent. The aim of this study was to compare the cardiopulmonary effects of dexmedetomidine in six goats and four sheep anaesthetised with sevoflurane and maintained at approximately 1 minimal alveolar concentration. The animals were ventilated mechanically and held in an upright position to minimise the influence of positioning on pulmonary function. After baseline cardiopulmonary measures, 2 microg/kg dexmedetomidine was injected intravenously over one minute, and measurements were made for 120 minutes. In both species, respiratory resistance, alveolar dead space and shunt fraction increased and thoracic compliance decreased significantly; arterial, pulmonary arterial, pulmonary capillary wedge and central venous pressures increased and heart rate and cardiac output decreased significantly. Arterial oxygen tension decreased significantly, with no significant difference between the goats and sheep. Wide interindividual differences were observed in both the goats (mean [sd] 144 [149.1] mmHg, range 54.8 to 443.7 mmHg) and sheep (mean [sd] 129.8 [132.1] mmHg, range 33.7 to 352.8 mmHg), but the cardiovascular and respiratory changes were similar in the two species.  相似文献

Objective To test the possible inhibitory effect of allopurinol on reperfusion injury, caused by oxygen-derived free radicals, of sheep large intestine.
Design An ultrastructural study on caecal tissues from control and treated groups.

Animals

Fifty sheep in four ischaemic and reperfused (treatment) groups and one control group. Three of the treatment groups were subdivided for half to be injected with allopurinol and the other half with its solvent, potassium hydroxide (KOH).
Procedure Ischaemia of the caecum was induced in the four treatment groups for 60 minutes by clamping the apex. Allopurinol and its KOH solvent were injected intravenously in three treatment groups prior to ischaemia. Samples were collected before and 1 hour after induction of ischaemia and 1 min, 1 h and 8 h after reperfusion. Tissues were processed and examined with an electron microscope.
Results Untreated and solvent injected sheep showed minor ultrastructural changes following ischaemia. With reperfusion, there was severe mitochondrial, goblet cell and basement membrane damage. Tissues from allopurinoltreated sheep were preserved and appeared similar to tissues from the control group.

Conclusion:

Pre-treatment with allopurinol prevented damage to tissues whereas untreated or allopurinol solventtreated showed severe damage following reperfusion. It is believed that allopurinol, an analogue of hypoxanthine and xanthine, prevents reperfusion injury by competitively binding with xanthine oxidase. This reduces or inhibits the xanthine oxidase mediated conversion of hypoxanthine to xanthine thereby preventing the formation of oxygen-derived free radicals.  相似文献

The concentrations of plasma ceruloplasmin, plasma fibrinogen, serum haptoglobin and the major cell types in blood together with liveweight changes were monitored during the acute phase response in sheep. Five control sheep, five sheep that underwent sham bronchial obstruction, and five sheep that developed pneumonia after bronchial obstruction were examined. Blood samples were taken and liveweights were recorded from four to six days before until 14 days after the surgical operations (sham and bronchial obstruction). The operations led to an acute phase response in the sheep and the development of pneumonia increased and sustained the response or led to a secondary response. Statistically significant changes observed in the blood of the sheep during the acute phase response included increased concentrations of plasma ceruloplasmin and plasma fibrinogen, depression of erythrocyte numbers and elevation of neutrophil numbers (means on day of maximum change as percentage of pretreatment values; 250 per cent, 400 per cent, 80 per cent and 200 per cent, respectively). Serum haptoglobin showed a pronounced and significant increase in concentration (over 6000 per cent of pretreatment values in some sheep). All three groups of sheep showed significant depression of liveweight after overnight confinement in the surgery but this was sustained for the period of the experiment only in the bronchial obstruction group. The results indicated that measurement of the concentrations of the three plasma proteins may be more useful in the diagnosis of tissue injury and infectious disease than the number of circulating neutrophils in sheep.  相似文献

1. Broilers were divided at 42 to 44 d of age into a Control group (n=30) and a Treatment group (n=30). The mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) and electrocardiogram (ECG) leads II and aV(F) were measured 1, 2 and 4 h after an intravenous injection of 0.9% saline (Control group) or Nomega-nitro-L-arginine methyl esther (L-NAME), an inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase and thus an inhibitor of endothelial nitric oxide (NO) production (Treatment group). 2. At 1 and 2 h but not 4 h post-injection, L-NAME significantly increased the mPAP and the amplitudes of the ECG S-wave and RS-wave leads II and aVF when compared with Control values. 3. The correlation coefficients between the mPAP and the ECG S-wave and RS-wave amplitudes for lead II within the Treatment group were -0.848 and -0.553 at 1 h and -0.798 and -0.512 at 2 h, respectively. The corresponding coefficients for lead aVF were -0.735, -0.596, -0.663 and -0.724, respectively. 4. After suitable mPAP and ECG values had been recorded at each time interval, sodium nitroprusside (SNP), which acts as a short-lived NO donor molecule, was injected intravenously via a right-cardiac catheter. Within 5 min after the SNP injection, the mPAP and the ECG lead II S-wave and RS-wave amplitudes were transiently reduced to levels that, at 1 and 2 h after L-NAME injection, did not differ from Control values. Within 10 min after the SNP injection, all values returned to the levels previously induced by L-NAME. 5. These results demonstrate that L-NAME increased the myocardial contractility and PAP, whereas SNP transiently reversed the effects of L-NAME on myocardial contractility and PAP. It appears likely from these results that the pulmonary vascular endothelium releases NO that in turn reduces the pulmonary vascular resistance or attenuates myocardial contractility in broiler chickens.  相似文献

AIM: To develop a long-acting Vitamin B12 injection to prevent Co deficiency in sheep. METHODS: Formulations of microencapsulated Vitamin B12 in lactide-glycolide polymers were injected intramuscularly or subcutaneously into the anterior neck region of groups of 10 lambs and their efficacy determined from changes in serum and liver Vitamin B12 concentrations. RESULTS: The 95:5 lactide glycolide and the 100 lactide formulations containing more than 12.5% Vitamin B12 w/w significantly increased and maintained serum Vitamin B12 concentrations for at least 210 days as well as liver Vitamin B12 concentrations in treated lambs when compared with untreated controls. CONCLUSIONS: Injections of microencapsulated Vitamin B12 in lactide/glycolide copolymers are able to increase and maintain the Vitamin B12 status of lambs for at least 210 days. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Another option for the prevention of Co deficiency in sheep is now available using a long acting injectable Vitamin B12.  相似文献

The effect of borogluconate on plasma calcium fractions was studied in vitro and in vivo in sheep. In vitro calcium chloride was more effective in raising ionised plasma calcium than calcium borogluconate. Sodium borate or gluconate added to blood caused only small decreases in blood ionised calcium. However, together, a synergistic reduction in ionised calcium was observed. Following calcium borogluconate infusions into sheep, total plasma calcium rose primarily because of an increase in the unionised ultrafiltrable fraction. Other changes observed following the infusion were hypercalciuria, decreased glomerular filtration rate and acidosis. Sodium borogluconate administered subcutaneously lowered total plasma calcium. This probably resulted from enhanced calcium excretion. It is suggested that since the anionic component of calcium solutions alters the availability and retention of calcium, it is likely to affect clinical efficacy significantly.  相似文献

The aim of to the present study was to evaluate the effects of verapamil (VER) on plasma pharmacokinetics of ivermectin (IVM) and doramectin (DOR) in lactating Istrian Pramenka dairy sheep and to investigate the role of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) in transport of avermectins into milk. Pharmacokinetics of IVM and DOR following subcutaneous administration of 0.2mg/kg b.w. was evaluated in four groups of sheep. They were administered either IVM or DOR alone or in combination with verapamil (VER) at a dose of 3.0mg/kg b.w., 3 times at 12h intervals. Blood plasma and milk samples were collected at defined time intervals over 30 days post-treatment to determine IVM and DOR concentration levels. Pharmacokinetic parameters in sheep injected with IVM or DOR alone corresponded to previously published values. Comparison between sheep injected with IVM only, and sheep injected with IVM in combination with VER (IVM+VER) showed significant difference in pharmacokinetic parameters in blood plasma. Area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) truncated at 2 days (AUC(2)) was 15 and 28 μg day/L for group IVM and IVM+VER, respectively. With co-administration of VER, apparent plasma clearance (Cl/F) and mean residence time (MRT) of IVM decreased from 135 to 116 L/day and from 5.8 to 3.8 days, respectively. Similar trends were observed for DOR (AUC(2) 48 vs. 68 μg day/L, Cl/F 61 vs. 46 L/day, and MRT 5.6 vs. 4.4 days for groups DOR and DOR+VER, respectively). This study confirms that co-administration of VER has a significant effect on pharmacokinetic parameters of subcutaneously administered IVM in blood plasma. The influence on DOR pharmacokinetics is much weaker. This could be either due to the difference in lipophilicity or the difference in affinity towards P-gp as a result of structural differences. No significant influence of VER on AUC ratio of IVM and DOR between milk and plasma was observed suggesting that P-gp does not govern transport of avermectins into milk.  相似文献

Three Merino ewes were given cefotaxime IM, and 3 were given cefotaxime subcutaneously (50 mg/kg of body weight each); each dose was suspended in 6 ml of oil. Five dogs were also given an oily suspension of cefotaxime subcutaneously (SC) (50 mg/kg of body weight). The plasma concentrations (Cp) and pharmacokinetic data obtained after cefotaxime in the oily suspension was injected IM and SC were compared with data from the same animals after they were given an aqueous solution of cefotaxime by the same routes. Key pharmacokinetic values obtained after cefotaxime was administered IV to sheep and to dogs are discussed. Mean peak Cp (Cpeak) in sheep when given the oily suspension IM was approximately 53 micrograms/ml at 0.18 to 0.40 hour, and that value in sheep given the aqueous preparation was 62 micrograms/ml 0.08 to 0.18 hour. Mean Cpeak values after the oily suspension and the aqueous preparation were injected SC were 11.0 micrograms/ml (between 0.8 and 1 hour) and 51 micrograms/ml (between 0.25 and 1 hour), respectively. Bioavailabilities were approximately 70% after IM injection was done and 90% after SC injection was done. The beta-plasma half-lives were 0.7 hour after IM injection was done and 2.9 hours after SC injection was done. Mean Cpeak in dogs when given the oily suspension SC was 30 micrograms/ml at 1.0 hour, and when dogs were given the aqueous preparation SC, Cpeak was 27 micrograms/ml at 0.6 hour. Absorption was virtually complete after the oily suspension and aqueous preparations were given.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether inhaled nitric oxide (NO) prevents pulmonary hypertension and improves oxygenation after i.v. administration of a bolus of dexmedetomidine in anesthetized sheep. ANIMALS: 6 healthy adult sheep. PROCEDURE: In a crossover study, sevoflurane-anesthetized sheep received dexmedetomidine (2 microg/kg, i.v.) without NO (DEX treatment) or with inhaled NO (DEX-NO treatment). Cardiopulmonary variables, including respiratory mechanics, were measured before and for 120 minutes after bolus injection of dexmedetomidine. RESULTS: Dexmedetomidine induced a transient decrease in heart rate and cardiac output. A short-lived increase in mean arterial pressure (MAP) and systemic vascular resistance (SVR) was followed by a significant decrease in MAP and SVR for 90 minutes. Mean pulmonary arterial pressure (MPAP) and pulmonary vascular resistance increased transiently after dexmedetomidine injection. The Pao2 was significantly decreased 3 minutes after injection and reached a minimum of (mean +/- SEM) 13.3 +/- 78 kPa 10 minutes after injection. The decrease in Pao2 was accompanied by a sudden and prolonged decrease in dynamic compliance and a significant increase in airway resistance, shunt fraction, and alveolar dead space. Peak changes in MPAP did not differ between the 2 treatments. For the DEX-NO treatment, Pao2 was significantly lower and the shunt fraction significantly higher than for the DEX treatment. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Inhalation of NO did not prevent increases in pulmonary arterial pressures induced by i.v. administration of dexmedetomidine. Preemptive inhalation of NO intensified oxygenation impairment, probably through increases in intrapulmonary shunting.  相似文献

The selenoprotein phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (PHGPx) is highly expressed in testes under gonadotropin control. The expression patterns of PHGPx mRNA by 17beta-estradiol (E2) as an estrogen and tamoxifen (Tam) as an estrogen antagonist were investigated in the reproductive organs of male rats. Twelve-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were subcutaneously injected with E2 (7.5 microg/kg/day) or Tam (5 mg/kg/day) for 1 week. The E2 treatment significantly increased the levels of PHGPx mRNA in both testes and prostates, whereas the Tam treatment significantly decreased the levels of PHGPx mRNA, compared to the vehicle control (p<0.01). The treatment with E2 or Tam slightly decreased the levels of PHGPx mRNA in epididymides. In histopathological examination, severe vacuolization and depletion of germ cells in the seminiferous tubules, cell debris in the tubular lumen, and mild proliferative changes in interstitial tissues were observed in the testes of Tam-treated rats, whereas only mild spermatogonial proliferation was observed in the seminiferous tubules of E2-treated rats. There were no typical histopathological changes in the epididymides of any of the laboratory rats but mild epithelial proliferation in the prostates of E2- and Tam-treated rats. These results suggest that PHGPx mRNA expression may be influenced by estrogen in the male reproductive organs.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of the ergot alkaloid ergovaline with effects of ergotamine on blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and body temperature in conscious sheep. ANIMALS: 3 sheep with indwelling arterial catheters. PROCEDURE: Ergotamine and ergovaline were injected IV (20 nmol/kg), and their effects on arterial blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate and pattern, body temperature, and skeletal muscle electromyographic activity were compared with control values obtained following injections of saline (0.9% NaCI) solution or acetone. RESULTS: Both ergopeptides caused immediate and significant increases in blood pressure (50 to 75 mm Hg) without concomitant increases in heart rate. Ergovaline but not ergotamine significantly increased pulse pressure (35 mm Hg). Both ergopeptides resulted in decreased respiratory rate and increased respiratory depth within the first hour of administration. Body temperature was decreased slightly upon ergopeptide administration but continued to increase thereafter, with greater increases developing with ergovaline than with ergotamine. Increased body temperatures of 3.0 to 3.5 C were maintained for at least 10 hours. Respiratory rate was increased to rates as high as 210 to 220 breaths/min in association with hyperthermia. Ergopeptides had no effect on skeletal muscle electromyographic activity. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: In sheep, ergovaline has similar effects to ergotamine on cardiovascular and pulmonary function and body temperature but is more potent. These effects are consistent with clinical signs observed in the toxicoses developed when ruminants ingest grass with high concentrations of ergopeptides.  相似文献

In the present study, we report the effect of medetomidine followed by atipamezole on plasma glucose, cortisol and noradrenaline in calves, cows and sheep. Eight calves, eight lactating dairy cows and eight adult female sheep were included in a crossover trial. The animals were injected i.v. with medetomidine (40 microg/kg), followed 60 min later by atipamezole i.v. (200 microg/kg) or saline. The wash-out period between experiments was 1 or 2 weeks. In every animal, medetomidine induced a marked hyperglycaemia, which was reversed by atipamezole. Cortisol levels increased significantly in cows and sheep, reaching levels 4-8-fold higher than the baseline levels 25-45 min after injection of medetomidine. Atipamezole did not affect the cortisol levels, except in sheep where an increase was observed. Plasma levels of noradrenaline decreased in cows and sheep after medetomidine injection, reflecting the inhibition of sympathetic activity by the drug. After injection of the antagonist, there was a large increase in noradrenaline levels. In conclusion, a high dose of medetomidine does not seem to reduce the overall endocrine stress response in cattle and sheep, which has previously been reported in other species.  相似文献

The effect of insulin on the ascorbate recycling system in the chicken liver was examined. First, insulin was injected subcutaneously into the chicken, and liver glutathione‐dependent dehydroascorbate reductase (GSH‐DHAR) activity was determined. Insulin increased liver GSH‐DHAR activity, but did not affect plasma and liver ascorbate concentration. Dehydroascorbate increased plasma and liver ascorbate levels, and liver GSH‐DHAR activity. However, distinct changes in plasma insulin level were not observed by dehydroascorbate injection. In addition, reduction of external dehydroascorbate in cultured chicken hepatocytes could not be observed in an insulin‐deprived culture, although the cells reduced external dehydroascorbate in a serum‐free culture with insulin. We concluded that insulin affects the ascorbate recycling system as an essential factor in the chicken liver.  相似文献

Cellular changes in the abomasal tissue and draining abomasal lymph nodes were examined after primary infection of lambs with Haemonchus contortus for 3, 5 or 27-36 days.Infection with H. contortus larvae resulted in a rapid and selective increase in the percentage of CD4(+) T-cells in the abomasal lymph node at 3 days post-infection (PI). By 5 days PI, the lymph node weight had increased two-fold; however, the percentage of lymphocyte populations in the abomasal lymph node resembled that seen in uninfected sheep. Lymph node weights remained at increased levels in the adult nematode infected sheep and down-regulation of B-cell surface markers (sIg and MHC Class II) was apparent in this group. Significant increases in the percentage of CD4(+) T-cells co-expressing MHC Class II, but not CD25, were observed in the larval infected groups except in adult nematode infected sheep. Increased numbers of eosinophils, CD4(+), gamma delta(+) T-cells and B-cells were found in the abomasal tissue by 5 days PI, but no further increases in these cell populations were observed in the adult nematode infected group. In contrast, the level of both lamina propria and intraepithelial mast cells observed in the abomasal mucosa was highest in the sheep carrying an adult nematode burden. These findings indicate that sheep are able to generate an early immune response to infection with H. contortus larvae, characterised by the activation of CD4 T-cells and B-cells in the draining lymph nodes and recruitment of eosinophils, CD4(+) and gamma delta-TCR,WC1(+) T-cells and B-cells in larval infected tissues. However, these changes do not seem to be maintained during infection with the adult parasite where increases in mast cell numbers dominate the local response, indicating that different parasite stages may induce distinct and possibly counteractive immune responses.  相似文献

Concanavalin A (Con A) induced suppressor cell activity was evaluated in a group of ovine progressive pneumonia virus-antibody positive sheep (OPPV+). Decreased levels of suppressor activity were observed in the peripheral blood and regional pulmonary lymph nodes of animals with clinical and pathological evidence of ovine progressive pneumonia (OPP) when compared to animals with no lesions and animals with caseous lymphadenitis involving the lungs and pulmonary lymph nodes. Decreased levels of Con A stimulated lymphocyte proliferation was also observed in the peripheral blood and iliac lymph nodes of sheep with OPP. Sheep with OPP were found to be hypogammaglobulinemic. Sera from OPPV+ sheep had no effect on T and B cell mitogen stimulated responses of lymphocytes from sheep seronegative for antibodies to ovine progressive pneumonia virus (OPPV-) when compared to normal sheep serum.  相似文献

The pharmacokinetics of cefotaxime and probenecid, given by intravenous injection, were determined in six Merino ewes which had been subjected to a 75% reduction in renal mass. These results were compared with results previously determined in sheep with normal renal function. In the sheep with reduced renal mass, the following significant changes in parameter values for cefotaxime were observed. The elimination rate constant (kel) decreased by 47%, the apparent volume of the central compartment (Vc) decreased by 59%, the steady state volume (Vss) decreased by 50%, and the total body clearance (ClB) decreased by 78%. The rate constant for distribution of drug into tissues (k12) increased 6.9 times, the rate constant for distribution out of tissues (k21) increased 3.7 times, and the area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) increased by a factor of 4.9. The parameter values, determined in sheep with reduced renal mass, for probenecid plasma half-life, Vss and the rate constants k12, k21, and kel were not significantly different from the values obtained previously in sheep with normal renal mass. However, the rate constant for renal excretion of probenecid (ke), renal clearance (ClR), ClB and Vc decreased by 79, 90, 54 and 36%, respectively. The results indicate that reduced renal mass increased the plasma half-life for cefotaxime as well as increasing its diffusion into tissue. In the case of probenecid the overall distribution and elimination kinetics were not altered by reduced renal mass; however, the rate of urinary excretion of the drug was reduced.  相似文献

During infection with T. vivax (strain Y 58) four stages can be distinguished: (a) A prepatent period of about 1 week. (b) An acute or fulminating disease characterized by an almost continuous, fluctuating parasitaemia, a decrease of the number of thrombocytes, blood serotonin level, packed cell volume (PCV) and Hb, serum albumin and γ-globulin fractions, a low serum total lipid content and an initial rise with subsequent decrease of the blood bradykinin level. (c) A critical stage of about 4–5 weeks post infection (pi) during which the animal may develop a progressive parasitaemia and may die from disseminated intravascular coagulation. At necropsy microthrombi were a consistent and most significant observation. Accompanying features were oedema and haemorrhages in the various tissues, pulmonary oedema and lobular infarction, patches of necrosis in liver, spleen and adrenals and nephrotic changes in the kidneys. Perivascular mononuclear infiltrates, resulting in local granuloma formation (heart liver), were a constant feature. Related biochemical changes were an increase of the blood urea and serum lactate dehydrogenase levels. (d) A post-critical stage characterized by an ameliorating condition, periods with no or few trypanosomes in the peripheral blood alternating with relatively high peaks of parasitaemia. This was associated with increased blood bradykinin levels, an increase of the PCV and Hb, serum albumin and γ-globulin fractions, number of thrombocytes and blood serotonin level. A return to normal values of the serum total lipids was observed at this stage. Despite this clinical recovery of the animals, at necropsy (on days 90, 98, and 99 pi) there was a moderate to massive histiocyte-lymphocyte-plasma cellular infiltration of the heart, which led to cardiac insufficiency in two heifers. The rise of the d-amino laevulinic acid dehydratase levels of erythrocytes during the decline of the PCV and Hb values is an indication for the production of many young erythrocytes and thereby for the haemolytic nature of the anaemia.  相似文献

Lymphocyte trafficking from blood to lymph and back is a tightly regulated process. Given appropriate stimuli, trafficking of cells through the lymph node changes from a 'steady-state' to a bimodal flow. Initially, a 'shutdown' phase occurs, leading to a dramatic reduction in efferent cell output. This is followed by a 'recruitment' phase whereby the efferent cell output becomes greatly elevated before returning to baseline levels. The shutdown/recruitment process is hypothesised to promote encounters between Ag-specific lymphocytes and APCs in an environment conducive to immune response induction. Cytokines, such as TNF-α have been shown to play an important role in regulating lymphocyte trafficking. Here, we unravel the role of cytokines in the regulation of cell trafficking using an in vivo sheep lymphatic cannulation model whereby the prefemoral lymph nodes were cannulated and recombinant cytokines were injected subcutaneously into the draining area of the cannulated node. We demonstrate that local injection of purified IL-6 or TNF-α stimulates shutdown/recruitment in the draining lymph node. While the effect of IL-6 appears to be direct, TNF-α may mediate shutdown/recruitment through IL-6.  相似文献

Following recovery from ovine footrot, a proportion of sheep in a flock may carry the causative organism and spread it to other sheep if environmental conditions are favourable. Footrot affected sheep have elevated levels of serum antibody against Bacteroides nodosus, but these levels decline rapidly after clinical recovery. When challenged by subcutaneous injection with 470 micrograms of protein extracted from the cell membrane of B. nodosus, without adjuvant, sheep that had recovered clinically from virulent footrot produced a marked increase in specific serum antibody within 7 d, while antibody levels in footrot-free sheep injected with the same antigen, and in saline injected controls, did not increase over a period of 25 d. Artificial stimulation and serological detection of immune memory may be useful in footrot eradication programs by identifying sheep that have had clinical footrot infection. This procedure may be applicable to other diseases where antibody responses are inconsistent or transient.  相似文献

The effect of 5 different copper supplements on copper status of Merino sheep at pasture was examined. Transient increases in plasma copper concentrations occurred following treatment with copper calcium EDTA, copper sulphate, and glass bullets impregnated with copper, cobalt and selenium, but these increases were not considered to be a reliable indication of changes in liver copper reserves. Sheep receiving the glass bullet or 2.5 g oxidised copper wire particles orally or 50 mg copper as copper calcium EDTA parenterally had liver copper concentrations significantly greater than those of untreated sheep for periods up to 51 weeks. Oral doses of 30 mg copper as copper oxychloride, or 300 mg copper as copper sulphate did not alter the liver copper reserves at any stage. The bodyweight and greasy fleece weights were not significantly altered by any of the copper supplements. Plasma vitamin B12 concentrations in sheep given the glass bullet were increased for about 5 months. Thereafter increased plasma vitamin B12 concentrations were observed in all sheep. Blood selenium concentrations were also high during the experiment thereby preventing the evaluation of the glass bullet as a source of selenium.  相似文献
