对2008-2020年我国宠物用病毒类生物制品质量情况进行总结,分析了宠物用病毒类生物制品质量检验中发现的问题,提出了完善兽用狂犬病灭活疫苗效力检验方法、加强纯净性检验方法研究、建立以单抗为基础的宠物用标准物质库、加快宠物用制品重点品种研制等提升宠物用病毒类制品质量和研究的建议。     

A veterinary approach to spiders

Spiders are kept as pets, for scientific study and for display. The veterinary profession is increasingly being consulted for advice on their care. The basic biology and management of spiders are outlined, together with information on physical and chemical restraint. These animals are particularly susceptible to managemental problems but other diseases may also occur. A certain amount of medical and surgical attention is possible.     

Role of veterinarians in the senior citizen-animal bond

As a result of increasing experience with the human-animal bond phenomenon, it is clear that senior citizens can gain much quality of life from such a bond whether it be a permanent and continuing one, resulting from the ownership of an animal, or even periodic, resulting from visitations. Dogs, and other animals, properly selected and trained, can be satisfactory pets for institutional visitation work. Voluntary work is increasingly being performed by people with pets suitable for being brought into custodial places. Evidently, the human-animal bond does much to ignite a spark of interest in people who are confined and who have lost many interests. It can stimulate the interest of elderly people who have lost various outlets for themselves in life due to the contemporary ways of institutionalizing the aged. Input of veterinarians is a significant requirement in these developments.     

A clinical approach to multidrug-resistant urinary tract infection and subclinical bacteriuria in dogs and cats

ABSTRACT

Multidrug-resistant bacteria are increasingly isolated from the urinary tract of pets, particularly those that suffer from concurrent conditions, have been hospitalised, or were treated with antimicrobials in the recent past. Many of the multidrug-resistant bacteria encountered are resistant to all commonly used oral antibiotics. This poses both a therapeutic dilemma in the individual pet and a threat to public health. This article begins with an overview of multidrug resistance in organisms that are commonly isolated from the urinary tract of pets. This is followed by a proposed clinical approach to managing multidrug-resistant urinary bacteria, which summarises current knowledge regarding appropriate sampling and analysis, reviews the current guidelines regarding appropriate antimicrobial use and discusses treatment options that might be considered. The article highlights several shortcomings of the current knowledge to be considered when planning future clinical research and developing policies.     

Raw food diets in companion animals: a critical review

Feeding of raw meat-based diets to pets has become an increasingly popular trend amongst pet owners. Owners, who desire to provide the best for their pets, seek veterinary opinions about food options. This paper reviews and applies standards of evidence-based medicine to grade the available scientific literature that addresses the nutritional benefits or risks, infectious disease risks, and public health implications of raw, meat-based pet diets. Although there is a lack of large cohort studies to evaluate risk or benefit of raw meat diets fed to pets, there is enough evidence to compel veterinarians to discuss human health implications of these diets with owners.     

The evolution of domestic pets and companion animals

The process of domestication, which began 12,000 years ago, before the beginnings of agriculture, continues as humans and domestic animals coexist, interact, and profoundly influence the shape of each other's social spaces. Although its beginnings were simple, this process has become increasingly complex. Attention to relationships between humans and companion animals commonly focuses on dogs and cats; however, companion animals and pets take various shapes in numerous places with and have diverse, overlapping functions and specializations.

Reptile medicine and surgery has advanced so much in the last 15 years, and clients are becoming increasingly aware of the needs of their reptile pets. As such, it is important for veterinary practitioners to advance their education in reptile medicine if they intend to add reptiles as patients to their clinics. Equally important is to realize one's limitations and to not only know when it is time to refer but to find out which practices near them are the best prepared for referral of these unique pets.     

An overview of restraint and blood collection techniques in exotic pet practice

As more data about blood test results become available, blood sampling becomes increasingly important as a diagnostic tool. The increased availability of biochemistry analyzers that sample small volumes of blood has made it possible to get diagnostic profiles and hematology results from pets that have only small volumes of blood to contribute. This article describes techniques for restraint, phlebotomy, and sample preparation of several of the more popular exotic animals in the pet trade. The species covered include birds, lizards, chelonians, snakes, frogs, salamanders, fish, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, hedgehogs, sugar gliders, and giant spiders (tarantulas).

In today's society small rodents and rabbits are increasingly kept as pets. Anaesthesia is necessary for numerous reasons and proves to be a challenge for many veterinarians. Following surgical intervention analgesia is frequently neglected. This article reviews the preparation of small mammals for anaesthesia, the choice of anaesthetics and the possibilities of perioperative care including monitoring, complications, fluid therapy and analgesia.
