Rice (Oryza sativa L.)-dominated rainfed uplands of eastern India are facing two major problems such as lack of irrigation water sources and low productivity. In fact, unlined on-farm pond (OFP) technology in this terrain could prove to be an effective agricultural drought mitigation measure for monsoon crops but failed to ensure supplemental irrigation (SI) to the next winter crops. Consequently, the OFP technology could not pick up in the region. In order to overcome the shortcomings in the technology, the location of the OFP has been changed and a new concept of partial rice substitution (PRS) has been introduced in the present study to provide SI for the second crop in winter. Maize (Zea mays L.) and rice crops at upper and lower compartments of the field, respectively, were tried at various crop substitution ratios (CSR) of 70:30, 60:40, 50:50, 40:60, and 30:70 during monsoon season. Rainfall excess from both the compartments was harvested in an unlined OFP located in between the compartments and used for providing SI. In winter, black gram (Vigna mungo L.) and mustard (Brassica campestris) were taken in the upper and lower compartments, respectively, based on availability of water in the OFP. Water balance models were used to simulate the soil moisture in crop root zone as well as storage of water in the OFP. The optimal size of such unlined OFP for average land holdings (1200 m2) in rainfed uplands and under 60:40 CSR was found to be occupying 6 % area of the crop field.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted in three fallow paddy fields situated on the mid-tropical plain zone of a northeastern Indian state(Tripura) to provide rice fallow management options using leftover soil moisture and nutrients. The three experimental fields were managed by growing rice under the system of rice intensification as the rainy season crop and then groundnut, lentil, rapeseed and potato as the post-rainy season crops. Fertilization under the integrated nutrient management system and lifesaving irrigation at critical stages of each post-rainy season crop were provided. Results showed that the field water use efficiency values were 5.93, 2.39, 2.37 and 59.76 kg/(hm2·mm) and that the yield of these crops increased by approximately 20%, 34%, 40% and 20% after applying two lifesaving irrigations in groundnut, lentil, rapeseed and potato, respectively. Therefore, fallow paddy field can provide possible profitable crops during the post-rainy season by utilizing the residual moisture and minimum supplemental irrigation under improved nutrient management practices.  相似文献

The inclusion of grain legumes in rainfed lowland rice farming systems provides an opportunity to increase food production, household income, and human nutrition of impoverished rice farmers in Asia. We examined the effect of rice establishment method on the performance of wet season rice (Oryza sativa L.) and post-rice crops of either chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) or moong [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] on an Udic Haplustalf in the drought-prone, rainfed lowlands of eastern India. Rice was either direct seeded in lines on moist soil immediately after the onset of wet season rain or transplanted after sufficient rainwater accumulated for soil submergence. Crop establishment method had no effect on rice performance in a season (2001) with normal rainfall. In a drought season (2002), direct seeding resulted in mean rice grain yield of 2.3 t ha−1, whereas the transplanted rice crop failed. The agronomic efficiency of N fertilizer applied to direct-seeded rice was comparable for the 2 years (18 and 24 kg grain per kg N applied). Topsoil inorganic N was markedly higher following chickpea and moong than following a post-rice fallow. Direct-seeded rice had higher yield and accumulation of N following a post-rice legume than following fallow, but transplanted rice derived no such benefit from the legume. Direct-seeded rice was established 1–2 months before transplanted rice, and direct-seeded rice matured before transplanted rice by 8 days in the favorable season and by 26 days in the drought season. The soil nitrate present after legumes and fallow rapidly disappeared, presumably by denitrification, following the onset of rains and soil flooding prior to transplanting. A portion of this accumulated soil nitrate was taken up by the direct-seeded rice before it could be lost. But transplanted rice did not benefit from this inorganic N derived from legumes because virtually all soil nitrate was lost before transplanting. Direct seeding of rice ensured better use of residual and applied N, reduced risk due to drought, and favored intensification with post-rice legumes in drought-prone lowland systems.  相似文献

Rice is the main crop produced in the Senegal River Valley under the semiarid Sahelian climate where water resource management is critical for the resource use sustainability. However, very limited data exit on rice water use and irrigation water requirement in this water scarcity environment under climate change conditions. Understanding crop water requirements is essential for better irrigation practices, scheduling and efficient use of water. The objectives of this study were to estimate crop water use and irrigation water requirement of rice in the Senegal River Valley at Fanaye. Field experiments were conducted during the 2013 hot and dry season and wet season, and 2014 hot and dry season and wet seasons. Three nitrogen fertilizer treatments were applied to rice variety Sahel 108: 60, 120, and 180 kg N ha?1. Rice water use was estimated by the two-step approach. Results indicated that crop actual evapotranspiration (ETa) varied from 632 to 929 mm with the highest ETa obtained during the hot and dry seasons. Irrigation water requirement varied from 863 to 1198 mm per season. Rice grain yield was function of the growing season and varied from 4.1 to 10.7 tons ha?1 and increased with nitrogen fertilizer rate. Rice water use efficiency relative to ETa and irrigation requirements increased with nitrogen fertilizer rate while rice nitrogen use efficiency decreased with the nitrogen fertilizer rates. The results of this study can be used as a guideline for rice water use and irrigation water requirement for the irrigation design projects, consultants, universities, producers, and other operators within rice value chain in the Senegal River Valley.  相似文献

Abstract

Historical changes in planting area, yield improvements, and production of both paddy and upland rice (Oryza sativa L.) in Tokyo and the whole of Japan from 1877 to 2003 were reviewed. The area of rice in Tokyo was at its peak (17,000 ha) at the beginning of the 20th century but dramatically reduced thereafter except for the period of 1950s, to200 and 30 ha for paddy and upland rice, respectively, in 2003, due to urbanization. After the 1950s, the land-use efficiency rate in Tokyo was reduced from 180 to 100% and rice self-sufficiency rate from 4 to 0.1%. There was historical yield improvement of paddy rice in Tokyo particularly after 1960s in the Southern and Northern Tama regions, but the current yield level in Tokyo (ca. 400 g m-2) is lower than that in the whole of Japan (more than 500 g m-2) eventhough crop damage due to low temperatures is not serious. The reasons were discussed from the viewpoints of (1) less agricultural inputs and agronomic management, (2) declining rice research after the 1970s, (3) higher elevating air temperature(e.g. 1.4°C for the last 40 years), in Tokyo, and (4) yield component differences. Upland rice in Tokyo has a planting area comparable with paddy rice (ca. 7,000 to 8,000 ha) during the 1950s, but yield improvement during the last 50 yearsis not noticeable (ca. 150 g m-2) with no development of cultivars, and with greater fluctuation of crop situation index due to drought compared with paddy rice. This review paper discusses the importance of urban rice production system, along with a proposal of the alternatives.  相似文献

Crop management plays an important role in the transition from a deepwater rice to a flooded rice production system but information about optimum management strategies are currently lacking. The goal of this study was to determine the effect of planting date and variety on flooded rice production in the deepwater area of Thailand. Two experiments were conducted at the Bang Taen His Majesty Private Development Project in 2009 and 2010 to represent conditions prior to flooding (early rainy season) and after flooding (dry season). The early rainy season crop covered the period from May to October 2009, while the dry season crop covered the period from November 2009 to April 2010. The experimental design was a split plot with four main plots and three sub plots replicated four times. The treatments for the main plot were various planting dates, while the treatments for the sub plots were rice varieties. The dates of the critical developmental phases of rice were recorded and biomass was sampled during the growing period. The collected data were statistically analyzed using ANOVA and treatment means were compared to identify the appropriate plating date and the best variety for the area. The highest average yield was obtained for variety PSL2 across transplanting dates from June 19 to July 23, with an average yield of 3898 kg ha−1. The dry season crop showed that both biomass and yield were affected by the interaction between planting date and variety. The highest yield was obtained for variety PTT1 transplanted on November 9. The research showed that the variety PSL2 is the most suitable variety for early rainy season production with a transplanting date ranging from June 19 to July 23, while the variety PTT1 planted on November 9 was the best management practice for the dry season crop. However, a high yielding flooded rice variety that has a short growth duration is still needed for this area.  相似文献

Rice–wheat (RW) production system, which covers over 13.5 million ha in the Indo-Gangetic Plains of south Asia, is vital for food and nutritional security and livelihood of millions of poor people in this part of the region. Availability of irrigation water under projected climate change scenarios is a great concern, and demonstration of the impact of different irrigation regimes on rice, wheat, and system yields is essential to adopt suitable water saving technologies to minimize risk. This study tested the ability of the agricultural production systems simulator (APSIM) model to simulate the effects of different irrigation regimes on yield, irrigation water requirement, and irrigation water productivity (WPi) of rice, wheat, and RW system in upper-gangetic plains of India. The long-term simulated rice yield showed a steadily declining trend at an average rate of 120 kg ha?1 yr?1 (R 2 = 0.94, p < 0.05), while long-term simulated wheat yields showed a lower declining trend at an average rate of 48 kg ha?1 yr?1 (R 2 = 0.48, p < 0.05). The highest WPi of 8.31 kg ha?1 mm?1 was observed under RW system with the rice irrigation (IR) regime of 8 days alternate wetting and drying (AWD) and five irrigations for wheat with a yield penalty of 25.5 %. The next highest WPi was observed in the treatment with a 5-day AWD regime in rice and five irrigations for wheat, with a yield penalty of 20.1 %. Thus, we can suggest that a 5-day AWD irrigation regime for rice combined with five irrigations during wheat could be the best option under water limiting situations.  相似文献

Wheat straw burial has great potential to sustain rice production under alternate wetting and drying (AWD) irrigation. A field experiment was conducted with three wheat straw burial treatments, including without straw burial (NSB), with light straw burial of 300 kg/hm2 (LSB) and dense straw burial of 800 kg/hm2 (DSB), as well as three AWD regimes: alternate wetting/moderate drying (AWMD), alternate wetting/severe drying (AWSD) and alternate wetting/critical drying (AWCD). The rice growth and grain quality were higher in LSB and NSB than those in NSB under the same AWD regime. The AWMD × DSB treatment resulted in the highest yield, brown rice rate, milled rice rate, amylose content and protein content. Conversely, the AWCD × NSB treatment led to the lowest yield, brown rice rate, milled rice rate, amylose content and protein content. The active absorption area and nitrate reductase activity of roots were higher in the AWMD × DSB treatment than those in the AWCD × NSB treatment, as the former increased organic carbon and nitrogen contents in the rhizosphere, whereas the latter reduced their availability. Total soluble protein content and glutamine synthetase activity were greater in the AWMD × DSB treatment than those in the AWCD × NSB treatment. The activities of superoxide dismutase and catalase were higher in the AWMD × DSB treatment compared with the AWCD × NSB treatment, leading to the amelioration of oxidative cell injury, as shown by a lower malonaldehyde level. This study suggested that farmers should implement AWMD irrigation after leaving the straw residues in the field, followed by deep tillage to improve soil quality and mitigate the drought stress cycles of AWD. This approach can improve rice growth and grain quality and alleviate the problems of disposal of straw residues and water scarcity for sustainable rice production.  相似文献

High temperatures cause physiological and biochemical changes and significantly affect young panicle development of rice (Oryza sativa L.). Brassinosteroids play important roles in enhancing crop stress resistance. In this study, we subjected rice cultivars Huanghuazhan (heat-resistant) and IR36 (heat-sensitive) to high temperature (HT, 40 ºC) or normal temperature (NT, 33 ºC) for 7 d at the panicle initiation stage, in conjunction with application of 24-epibrassinolide [EBR, a synthetic brassinolide (BR)] or brassinazole (BRZ, a BR biosynthesis inhibitor) at the beginning of the treatments. HT exacerbated spikelet degeneration and inhibited young panicle growth, which were partially prevented by EBR application, while BRZ application aggravated the reduction in spikelet number. HT decreased the contents of BR, active cytokinins (aCTK), active gibberellins (aGA) and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), but increased the content of abscisic acid (ABA) in young panicles. The activities of key enzymes involved in sucrose hydrolysis, glycolysis and the tricarboxylic acid cycle in young panicles were decreased with the change of endogenous hormone levels under HT. In addition, the contents of H2O2 and malondialdehyde (MDA) were increased and the activities of antioxidant enzymes were decreased in young panicles. Exogenous application of EBR induced the expression of phytohormone biosynthesis-related genes and down-regulated the expression of phytohormone catabolism-related genes to increase the contents of endogenous BR, aCTK, aGA and ABA, thus promoting the decomposition and utilization of sucrose in young panicles, enhancing the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase and peroxidase, and reducing the accumulation of H2O2 and MDA in young panicles, whereas application of BRZ had the opposite physiological effects. These results showed that brassinosteroids mediate endogenous phytohormone metabolism to alleviate HT injury at the panicle initiation stage in rice.  相似文献

Methane (CH4) emission and water productivity were estimated in an experiment conducted during wet (rainy) season of 2010 at the research farm of Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, India. Treatments comprising three methods of crop establishment viz., conventional transplanting (CT), system of rice intensification (SRI) and double transplanting (DT) were laid out in randomized block design with four replications. Scented rice (Oryza sativa L) variety ‘Pusa Basmati 1401’ was transplanted in puddle field. In CT and SRI 21 and 12-day-old seedlings, respectively, were transplanted while in DT overall 45-day-old seedlings were transplanted. In CT and DT flooded conditions while in SRI saturated conditions were maintained. Results indicated that among the methods of crop establishment, CT had maximum cumulative CH4 emission (32.33 kg ha?1) followed by DT (29.30 kg ha?1) and SRI (19.93 kg ha?1). Temporal CH4 flux fluctuated between 79.7 and 482.0 mg m?2 day?1 under CT; 46.0 and 315.0 mg m?2 day?1 in SRI and 86.7 and 467.3 mg m?2 day?1 in DT. Considerable temporal variations in the individual CH4 fluxes were observed. Flux of CH4 was generally higher in early stage of crop and peaked about 21 days after transplanting coinciding with tillering stage of crop. CH4 flux declined gradually from 75 days after transplanting and stabilized at the harvest stage of rice in all the three methods of transplanting. Global warming potential was highest in CT (807.4 kg CO2 ha?1) and lowest in SRI (498.25 kg CO2 ha?1). However, a reverse trend was observed with carbon efficiency ratio. The water savings to the extent of six irrigations was recorded in SRI over CT. A saving of 27.4 % irrigation water and 18.5 % total water was recorded in SRI over CT while the corresponding values of DT over CT were 14.5 and 9.8 %. Water productivity of SRI (3.56 kg/ha mm) was significantly higher as compared to DT (2.87 kg/ha mm) and CT (2.61 kg/ha mm).  相似文献

Long-term trends of crop yields have been used as a means to evaluate the sustainability of intensive agriculture. Previous studies have measured yield trends from long-term rice–rice and rice–wheat experiments in different sites from the slopes of individual site regressions of yield over time. The statistical significance of each site regression was determined but not that of the aggregate trend, which could give an indication of the magnitude and significance of global yield change. The random regression coefficient analysis (RRCA) and meta-analysis were used in this study to analyze the aggregate yield trend from several long-term experiments (LTE) across the Indo-Gangetic Plains (IGP) and outside the IGP. Both methods show that there has been a significant (p < 0.05) declining trend in rice yield in rice–wheat LTEs in South Asia including China with the recommended rates of nutrients, but that there has been no significant change in wheat and system (rice + wheat) yields. There was no significant year × region (IGP versus non-IGP) interaction in rice and wheat yields. However, RRCA showed that the average yield trend was significantly negative (−41.0 kg ha−1 yr−1) only in the IGP. In the rice–rice LTEs, there was a significant year × site (IRRI versus non-IRRI sites) interaction during the dry season but not the wet season. Rice yields declined throughout Asia in the wet season. The average system (dry + wet season rice) yield trends were significantly negative in both IRRI and non-IRRI sites (−170.1 and −52.8 kg ha−1 yr−1, respectively) but the magnitude of yield decline was significantly greater in the IRRI sites than in the non-IRRI sites.Rice in the rice–wheat LTEs showed a significantly positive yield trend with the addition of farmyard manure (FYM) but the initial yield was generally lower with FYM than without FYM. After 15 years, yield increase due to FYM was not evident in most of the LTE.  相似文献

Abstract

In extensive river floodplains and deltaic lowlands, floods lasting several months render the land unavailable for crop (often rice) production during the rainy season. Aside from crop production during the flood-free dry season, the land area can be utilized for fish production during the flood season. This can be done by enclosing parts of these floodwater areas to produce a crop of stocked fish aside from the naturally occurring ‘wild’ species. The WorldFish Center and its national partners recently tested (1) concurrent rice-fish culture in the shallower flooded areas and (2) alternating rice and fish culture in the deep-flooded areas of Bangladesh and Vietnam through a community-based management system. This paper presents the key results of this work, focusing on the economics of existing land use patters and the impact of community based fish culture on rice yields and income. Rice production was maintained, or even enhanced. Fish production was increased beyond the wild catch by about 600 kg/ha/year in shallow-flooded areas and up to 1.5 t/ha/year in deep-flooded areas, without reduction in wild fish catch. For the overall system on an annual basis, an additional income ranging from US$ 135 per hectare in southern Vietnam to US$ 437 per hectare in Bangladesh was achieved, which is an increase of 20 to 85 percent over the profitability of the previous systems involving cropping and fish capture. The results indicate that community-based fish culture in rice fields is technically feasible, economically profitable, environmentally non-destructive, and socially acceptable.  相似文献

According to hydrological simulations by the Mekong River Commission, average annual flow of the Mekong will not change significantly despite climate change. However, they projected increased variability in wet and dry season flows, which will tend to increase the flood and drought risks to crops. To learn the implications of climate change for rice farming in the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB), a lower part of the Basin from China-Lao PDR border to the South China Sea, climate and hydrological figures related to rice production were compared in between the baseline in 1985–2000 and the climate change scenario in 2010–2050. Special attention was given to their 10 and 90 % exceedance values, which are rough equivalence of 10 and 90 % cumulative probabilities, to see changes in the frequency and extent of extreme weather events. Major findings of this study include the followings: (1) evapo-transpirations will increase in both average and 90 % cumulative probability values, raising irrigation demand. (2) Deviation of the annual rainfall will become larger, causing water shortage in reservoirs more frequently in the future. (3) The transplanting date of rain-fed rice will be delayed more likely due to insufficient precipitation in the early wet season, which may result in decreasing rice production. (4) Longer dry spells will be observed during the wet season, raising the drought risk to rain-fed rice. (5) These changes will be generally observed across the LMB, while the extent of the changes varies among regions.

Field experiments were conducted over the period 1994–1996 to investigate the residual effect on rice of a wide range of temperate legume species, grown during the preceding winter season in a warm-temperate environment in Nepal. The incorporation of large quantities of above- and below-ground legume biomass (roots and foliage) resulted in substantial residual effects on the subsequent upland rice crop. The effects on rice yield in terms of percent increase over the control were more pronounced at a site of comparatively lower inherent soil fertility where grain yields of rice grown after high yielding legume crops such as bitter lupin (Lupinus mutabilis) and Persian clover (Trifolium resupinatum) were almost twice as high (up to 7.6 t DM ha−1) than those of the control treatment (rice after wheat). In contrast, the residual effects of below-ground biomass (roots, nodules) on the following rice crop were not very pronounced and resulted in similar residual effects as rice, after fallow. Although up to 480 kg ha−1 of legume foliage N had been applied to rice, only a small proportion of the legume N (up to 70 kg N ha−1) was recovered by the following rice crop. Total rice dry matter yields were highly correlated with the amount of legume N applied, yet other factors such as residue quality and residue management practices appeared to also affect the magnitude of the residual effects. Future work should aim at investigating the effect of residue quality as affected by legume species and residue management practice on decomposition and N mineralisation processes in rice soils.  相似文献

Shallow saline water tables, naturally saline soils and variations in climatic conditions over the two growing seasons, create a harsh environment for irrigated rice production in the Senegal River Delta. At the onset of the growing season, salts accumulated by capillary rise in the topsoil are released into the soil solution and floodwater. Rice fields often lack drainage facilities, or drain from one field to the other, thus building up salt levels during the season. Salt stress may, therefore, occur throughout the growing season and may coincide with susceptible growth stages of the rice crop. The objectives of the present study were to (i) determine varietal responses to seasonal salinity in both the hot dry season (HDS) and the wet season (WS) and (ii) derive guidelines for surface water drainage at critical growth stages. We evaluated responses of three rice cultivars grown in the region to floodwater salinity (0–2, 4, 6, 8 mS cm−1), applied either at germination, during 2 weeks at crop establishment, during 2 weeks around panicle initiation (PI), or during 2 weeks around flowering. Floodwater electrical conductivity (EC) reduced germination rate for the most susceptible cultivar by as much as 50% and yield by 80% for the highest salinity level imposed. Salinity strongly reduced spikelet number per panicle, 1000 grain weight and increased sterility, regardless of season and development stage. The strongest salinity effects on yield were observed around PI, whereas plants recovered best from stress at seedling stage. Floodwater EC <2 mS cm−1 hardly affected rice yield. For floodwater EC levels >2 mS cm−1, a yield loss of up to 1 t ha−1 per unit EC (mS cm−1) was observed for salinity stress around PI (at fresh water yields of about 8 t ha−1). Use of a salinity tolerant cultivar reduced maximum yield losses to about 0.6 t ha−1 per unit EC. It is concluded that use of salinity tolerant cultivars, drainage if floodwater EC >2 mS cm−1 at critical growth stages, and early sowing in the WS to avoid periods of low air humidity during the crop cycle, are ways to increase rice productivity in the Senegal River Delta.  相似文献

Abstract

In recent years, water and labor shortage in Southeast Asia is driving the farmers towards dry-seeded rice systems. Weed infestation is a serious threat for adoption of these systems. A study was conducted in the wet and dry seasons to evaluate the performance of 10 elite “Green Super Rice” (a recently named group of rice genotypes bred for unfavorable marginal environments) genotypes at two different weed infestation levels (partial and moderate weed control) under dry-seeded conditions. Average yield loss due to weed competition in the partial weed control treatment ranged from 12 – 57% in the wet season and 2 – 23% in the dry season. In the partial weed control plots, the drought pyramiding genotype IR83140-B-11-B performed well, resulting in 2850 and 4610 kg ha–1 of yield in the wet and dry seasons, respectively. The yield loss of this genotype in the partial weed control plots relative to the moderate weed control plots was only 21% in the wet season and 10% in the dry season. Results clearly showed that grain yield in different genotypes were positively correlated with leaf area at an early stage of the crop. The study also found negative and linear correlation between grain yield and weed biomass at harvest, demonstrating the importance of weeds in dry-seeded rice systems. The study suggested that genotypes with a larger leaf area could be integrated with other weed management strategies to achieve sustainable weed control in dry-seeded rice systems.  相似文献

Arsenic contamination of shallow groundwater and related health problems are threats for the millions in endemic regions of West Bengal. Contamination of rice grain creates the food chain pathway of mineral arsenic besides drinking water contamination. Present study concentrated on association of arsenic concentration in irrigated water, paddy field soil and rice with the cropping seasons. Irrigated ground water arsenic concentration decreased significantly (p = 0.007) from summer (median 0.42 mg l?1) to winter (median 0.35 mg l?1). Carried over effect created significant decrease (p = 0.03) of paddy field soil arsenic concentration from summer (median 8.35 mg kg?1) to winter (median 6.17 mg kg?1). Seasonal variation was observed in rice straw (p = 0.03) but not in husk (p = 0.91). Arsenic concentration decreased significantly (p = 0.05) in the rice grains collected in winter season (median 0.23 mg kg?1) than the samples collected in the summer season (median 0.30 mg kg?1). In conclusion, seasonal effects need to be considered in case of human health risk assessment from arsenic consumption.  相似文献

Abstract

Water availability is one of the determinants of productivity of rainfed lowland rice (Oryza sativa L.). Quantifying water losses from a paddy field, such as deep percolation and lateral seepage, assists estimation of water availability to the rice crop and development of appropriate water management in the lowlands. The main objective of this study was to evaluate paddy water availability and productivity across various soils in Northeast Thailand. The daily rate of downward water flow from standing water in the field (D) varied between 0 and 3 mm day-1 from clayey to sandy soils when the standing water was connected to groundwater table. However, when the standing water was separated from groundwater table, D increased up to 5 mm day-1 on soils with very low clay content in the topsoil. Daily net lateral water flow from the field (L) averaged over the season varied between 5 and 24 mm day-1 for the outflow and between 3 and 16 mm day-1 for the inflow. Both the inflow and outflow tended to be associated negatively with the soil clay content. The seasonal water loss through D plus L during the growing season in the lowlands was also negatively related to the soil clay content. The yield of a major rainfed lowland rice cultivar in Northeast Thailand (KDML105) varied from 2 to 4 t ha-1 across the region, and the water productivity (the ratio of grain yield to cumulative rainfall from transplanting/seedling establishment to maturity) ranged from 3 to 9 kg ha-1 mm-1. High clay soils could provide good standing water until late in the growing season, so the high production efficiency was measured on such soils.  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted to study the efficacy of 12 herbicide treatments for volunteer rice control with, or without, winter-flooding in Stuttgart and Rohwer, Arkansas, USA over two years (2012–13 and 2013–14). Herbicides were applied either in the fall or at 35 d prior to planting rice in the spring. Commercially harvested Clearfield™ long-grain inbred rice 'CL152' was used as volunteer rice seed, broadcasted and lightly incorporated in October, 2012 and 2013. 'Jupiter' (medium-grain inbred, conventional rice) was planted in May as the rice crop. Winter-flood was initiated soon after the fall herbicide treatments were applied and terminated in February. Winter-flood reduced volunteer rice germination by 34% in 2013 and by 40% in 2014. Some fall herbicide treatments, without winter flood, generally caused more injury to the rice crop planted in the spring than the winter-flooded treatments. Fall application of pyroxasulfone (0.12 kg ha−1), flumioxazin (0.14 kg ha−1), and sulfentrazone (0.34 kg ha−1) as well as pre-plant application of pyroxasulfone (0.12 kg ha−1) and 2,4-D (2.24 kg ha−1), resulted in lower volunteer rice infestation, averaged over flood treatments. Pre-plant application of 2,4-D (2.24 kg ha−1), sulfentrazone in the fall (0.34 kg ha−1) and pyroxasulfone pre-plant (0.12 kg ha−1) injured the rice crop by 20%, 23%, and 47%, respectively. Fall application of pyroxasulfone (0.12 kg ha−1) followed by a lower rate of 2,4-D (1.12 kg ha−1) 35 d pre-plant caused minimal (6%) crop injury and did not reduce yield. This treatment provided better volunteer rice control (73%) than pyroxasulfone alone at 0.12 kg ha−1 applied in the fall (64%). To evaluate the overwintering potential of hybrid and non-hybrid volunteer seeds, these seed types were planted at three depths (0, 7.5, 15 cm) in flooded and non-flooded conditions in a buried-pot experiment at Stuttgart and Rohwer over 2 years. Winter-flood reduced rice germination by 50% in 2013–14 and 40% in 2014–15 (averaged over seed type and burial depth), after 160 d and 130 d of burial, respectively. After the winter, the viability of hybrid seed (germinable + dormant) was higher (13 and 53%) than that of non-hybrid seed (8 and 27%) in both years.  相似文献

Direct-seeded rice systems are increasing in Asia as farmers respond to the high labor cost and shortage of water. Echinochloa crus-galli is one of the most problematic and competitive weeds in direct-seeded rice systems. Because of concerns about excessive herbicide use, there is an interest in developing cultural weed management strategies. However, the design of such strategies requires a better understanding of the weed response to crop density, nutrition, and water regime. A study was therefore conducted in pots to determine the effect of water (flooded and aerobic), nitrogen (N) fertilization (0, 100, and 200 kg N ha−1), and rice density [0, 4 rice plants (≈20 kg seed ha−1), and 16 rice plants (≈80 kg seed ha−1)] on the growth and reproduction of E. crus-galli. When grown alone, the growth and seed production of E. crus-galli were higher in flooded conditions than in aerobic conditions. However, no such differences were observed when E. crus-galli was grown with rice interference. E. crus-galli growth and seed production increased with increases in N rate. Irrespective of water regime and N rate, the growth and seed production of E. crus-galli declined with increases in rice density. At 100 kg N ha−1, for example, E. crus-galli shoot biomass and seed production decreased by 84–86% and 82–87%, respectively, when grown with 16 rice plants compared with its growth without rice interference. The results suggest that growth and seed production of E. crus-galli can be greatly reduced by increasing rice seeding rate. However, there is a need to involve other weed management strategies to achieve complete control of E. crus-galli and other weed species.  相似文献
