The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of a probiotic bacterium, Enterococcus faecium ZJ4 on growth performances and immune responses of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The tilapias were treated with E. faecium ZJ4 at a final concentration of 1 × 107 cfu ml− 1 in aquaria water every 4 days. Six aquaria with three replicates for treated and controls were used. After 40 days, the tilapias supplemented with the probiotic showed significantly better final weight and daily weight gain (DWG) than those fed the basal diet (Control) (P < 0.05). There was no remarkable difference (P > 0.05) in the total serum protein, albumin content, globulin concentration and A/G ratio between the treated and control tilapias. The result of lysozyme activity assay was similar to these biochemical indexes. However, the complement component 3 content, myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity and the respiratory burst activity of blood phagocytes were higher (P < 0.05) in E. faecium treated tilapias (trial 1) than the controls.  相似文献

A feeding experiment was carried out to determine the efficiency of different commercial sources, chemical forms and levels, of dietary astaxanthin, to appropriately pigment the red porgy (Pagrus pagrus) skin. According to this, total carotenoid content, profiles and chemical forms present in the skin were determined. In order to establish the potential for antioxidant protecting role of astaxanthin supplemented diets, peroxide levels and lipid composition of skin were also determined.

Red porgy alevins were fed six dietary treatments in triplicate; a basal diet (B) without carotenoids; two diets (N25 and N50) formulated to supply either 25 or 50 mg kg− 1 of an esterified source of astaxanthin (Haematococcus pluvialis, NatuRose™); two diets (CP25 and CP50) with either 25 or 50 mg kg− 1 of unesterified astaxanthin (Carophyll® Pink); and a positive control diet (B + S) proved as a successful pigmenting-diet in previous experiences (B + S, 88% basal diet:12% frozen shrimp) [Cejas, J., Almansa, E., Tejera, N., Jerez, S., Bolaños, A., Lorenzo, A., 2003. Effect of dietary supplementation with shrimp on skin pigmentation and lipid composition of red porgy (P. pagrus) alevins. Aquaculture 218, 457–469].

All fish fed carotenoid supplemented diets displayed a pink-coloured skin after 4 months of feeding in contrast to the greyish appearance displayed by fish fed the basal diet not supplemented with carotenoids (B). Furthermore, astaxanthin diesters were the major carotenoid in the skin of pink fish. A second carotenoid, tentatively identified as tunaxanthin diester, was also detected. The best results in terms of skin natural reddish hue, total carotenoid and astaxanthin contents were found by using the esterified forms of dietary astaxanthin (N25, N50 and B + S). Interestingly, the lowest levels of lipid peroxides were found in the fish fed these three treatments. However, no effect of treatment on lipid composition was found. In conclusion, red porgy alevins are able to efficiently utilise dietary natural or synthetic astaxanthin, and deposit this pigment in its esterified form to acquire an acceptable pink-coloured skin compared to that of the wild fish.  相似文献

The nutritional response of Litopenaeus schmitti larvae to substitution of Chaetoceros muelleri by Spirulina platensis meal (SPM) was evaluated. The substitution levels (S) were 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%, dry weight basis. Final larval length (FL) ranged from 1.98 to 3.16 mm for the different substitution levels. There was a significant relationship between S and FL, described by the following quadratic equation: FL = 2.853 + 0.01598S − 0.000233S2. The substitution level (S) yielding maximum FL was 34.2%. Development index (DI) values ranged from 2.84 to 3.93 and were dependent on substitution level. The corresponding equation was DI = 3.799 + 0.00945S − 0.000189S2 (P < 0.01). Maximum DI was obtained at 25.0% substitution. Survival was high (82–87%) and no significant differences were found between treatments. Protein digestibility of either microalgae was high, with 92% for SPM and 94% for C. muelleri, with no significant differences between them. The results in this study indicate that an adequate balance of nutrients in relation to the requirements of the species is critical. To simultaneously improve FL and DI, a 30% substitution of C. muelleri by SPM is suggested. This is equivalent to feeding 0.15 mg larvae− 1 day− 1 dry weight basis of a 70% C. muelleri/30% SPM diet, representing 0.078 mg protein larvae− 1 day− 1, 0.026 mg lipids larvae− 1 day− 1 and 2.732 J larvae− 1 day− 1.  相似文献

The culture of the mulloway (Argyrosomus japonicus), like many other Sciaenidae fishes, is rapidly growing. However there is no information on their metabolic physiology. In this study, the effects of various hypoxia levels on the swimming performance and metabolic scope of juvenile mulloway (0.34 ± 0.01 kg, mean ± SE, n = 30) was investigated (water temperature = 22 °C). In normoxic conditions (dissolved oxygen = 6.85 mg l− 1), mulloway oxygen consumption rate (M·o2) increased exponentially with swimming speed to a maximum velocity (Ucrit) of 1.7 ± < 0.1 body lengths s− 1 (BL s− 1) (n = 6). Mulloway standard metabolic rate (SMR) was typical for non-tuna fishes (73 ± 8 mg kg− 1 h− 1) and they had a moderate scope for aerobic metabolism (5 times the SMR). Mulloway minimum gross cost of transport (GCOTmin, 0.14 ± 0.01 mg kg− 1 m− 1) and optimum swimming velocity (Uopt, 1.3 ± 0.2 BL s− 1) were comparable to many other body and caudal fin swimming fish species. Energy expenditure was minimum when swimming between 0.3 and 0.5 BL s− 1. The critical dissolved oxygen level was 1.80 mg l− 1 for mulloway swimming at 0.9 BL s− 1. This reveals that mulloway are well adapted to hypoxia, which is probably adaptive from their natural early life history within estuaries. In all levels of hypoxia (75% saturation = 5.23, 50% = 3.64, and 25% = 1 .86 mg l− 1), M·o2 increased linearly with swimming speed and active metabolic rate (AMR) was reduced (218 ± 17, 202 ± 14 and 175 ± 10 mg kg− 1 h− 1 for 75%, 50% and 25% saturation respectively). However, Ucrit was only reduced at 50% and 25% saturation (1.4 ± < 0.1 and 1.4 ± < 0.1 BL s− 1 respectively). This demonstrates that although the metabolic capacity of mulloway is reduced in mild hypoxia (75% saturation) they are able to compensate to maintain swimming performance. GCOTmin (0.09 ± 0.01 mg kg− 1 m− 1) and Uopt (0.8 ± 0.1 BL s− 1) were significantly reduced at 25% dissolved oxygen saturation. As mulloway metabolic scope was significantly reduced at all hypoxia levels, it suggests that even mild hypoxia may reduce growth productivity.  相似文献

The blue swimmer crab, Portunus pelagicus, is an emerging aquaculture species in the Indo-Pacific. Two experiments were performed to determine the effects of salinity on survival, growth and haemolymph osmolality of early juvenile P. pelagicus crabs. The salinities tested for the first experiment were 10, 15, 25 and 40 ppt, and for the second experiment 5, 20, 30, 35 and 45 ppt. Each salinity experiment was triplicated, with each replicate consisting of 10 stage 4 juveniles. Each experiment lasted 45 days. Mortalities and incidence of “molt death syndrome” were recorded daily, while the intermolt period, carapace length, carapace width and wet weight were measured at each molt. At the end of the experiments the haemolymph osmolality and dry weights were measured.

Results demonstrate that salinity significantly affects both the survival and growth of early P. pelagicus juveniles. Mortality was significantly higher (p < 0.01) for juveniles cultured at salinities ≤ 15 ppt and at 45 ppt. At a salinity of 5 ppt a complete mortality occurred on day 20. In all salinity treatments, the majority of mortalities were due to “molt death syndrome”. In experiment 1, immediate effects of salinity on growth and development were seen at 10 ppt as the intermolt period was significantly longer (p < 0.01) and the mean carapace size increase was significantly less (p < 0.01) at the first molt compared to the other treatments. Meanwhile, the specific growth rates (carapace length, width and wet weight) were significantly lower (p < 0.05) at high salinities (≥ 40 ppt) due to longer intermolt periods and significantly lower (p < 0.05) carapace size or wet weight increases.

The haemolymph osmolality exhibited a positive linear relationship with the culture medium with an isosmotic point of 1106 mOsm/kg, equal to a salinity of approximately 38 ppt. Based on the osmolality graph, high metabolic cost for osmoregulation due to increased hyper- and hypo-osmotic stress appeared to cause lower survival and specific growth rates of the crabs. The results demonstrate that a salinity range of 20–35 ppt is suitable for the culture of early juvenile P. pelagicus.  相似文献

This study examined the efficacy of bithionol as an oral treatment for Atlantic salmon Salmo salar affected by amoebic gill disease (AGD). The current commercial management strategy of AGD is a costly 3 h freshwater bath. It is labour intensive and the number of baths needed appears to be increasing; hence, there is an effort to identify alternative treatments. Efficacy was examined by feeding AGD-affected Atlantic salmon twice daily to satiation with bithionol, an antiprotozoal, at 25 mg kg− 1 feed. Three seawater (35‰, 17 °C) re-circulation systems were used each consisting of three tanks containing 32 Atlantic salmon smolts with an average (± SEM) mass of 90.4 g (± 5.2). Three feeds were examined in the trial including bithionol, plain commercial control and oil coated commercial control. Feeding commenced 2 weeks prior to exposure to Neoparamoeba spp. at 300 cells L− 1 and continued for 28 days post-exposure. Efficacy was determined by examining gross gill score and identifying percent lesioned gill filaments twice weekly for 4 weeks post-exposure. Bithionol when fed as a two-week prophylactic treatment at 25 mg kg− 1 feed delayed the onset of AGD pathology and reduced the percent lesioned gill filaments by 53% and halved the gill score from 2 to 1 when compared with both the plain and oil controls during an experimental challenge. There were no palatability problems observed with mean feed intake of bithionol over the trial duration with fish consuming higher levels of the bithionol diet compared to both the oil and plain controls. This study demonstrated that bithionol at 25 mg kg− 1 feed, when fed as a two-week prophylactic treatment for Neoparamoeba spp. exposure, delayed and reduced the intensity of AGD pathology and warrants further investigation as an alternative to the current freshwater bath treatment for AGD-affected Atlantic salmon.  相似文献

Argopecten purpuratus can be cultivated using Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) as a method to increase production. In order to determine physiological response of A. purpuratus under different salinities and temperature conditions, two groups of juvenile scallops (small: h = 6.5 mm and large: h = 25.5 mm) were acclimated and close-cultured at salinities of 34, 38, and 42 g/l, at 16 and 22 °C and fed on Isochrysis galbana and Chaetoceros calcitrans. Survival, shell growth and scope for growth were determined at the end of the trials. Survival showed an inverse relationship with temperature and ammonia levels. In small scallops an increase in salinity at 16 °C increased survival. However, this relationship was not evident at 22 °C. On the other hand, salinity did not affect survival of large juveniles. Small juveniles had a lower survival (approximately 40%) than larger scallops (up to 85%) throughout the trials. Oxygen consumption was not affected by salinity. Small scallops showed similar oxygen consumption at 16 and 22 °C but in large juveniles higher values were registered at 22 °C. In large juveniles routine consumption at 16 °C was higher (up to 35%) than standard consumption. This pattern was not evident at 22 °C, suggesting that oxygen demand is higher regardless of feeding condition. NH4+–N excretion rate is inversely related to salinity. Only small juveniles showed a higher NH4+–N excretion rate at 22 °C. Scope for growth was positive in all treatments, although the upper limit of salinity should not be based only in this index. Higher scope for growth values at 38 and 42 g/l was related with a reduction in ammonia excretion and high absorption efficiency. In addition, an increase in salinity produced a reduction in NH3–N proportion and under hypersaline conditions scallops tended to decrease excretion as a way of osmoconformation. This explains our findings of higher survival rates at higher salinities. Even though the scope for growth is positive at 42 g/l, the osmotic stress reduces the survival chances. The data obtained can be considered useful information for A. purpuratus culture under controlled conditions.  相似文献

A total of 360 Nile tilapia at an average initial body weight of 3.9 g were randomly allocated to four treatments, each of which had three replicates of 30 fish per tank and used to investigate the effects of Cu2+‐exchanged montmorillonite (Cu‐MMT) on intestinal microflora, digestibility and digestive enzyme activities. The dietary treatments were: (i) basal diet, (ii) basal diet + 1.5 g kg?1 MMT; (iii) basal diet + 30 mg kg?1 copper as CuSO4 (equivalent to the copper in the Cu‐MMT treatment group), or (iv) basal diet + 1.5 g kg?1 Cu‐MMT. The results showed that supplementation with Cu‐MMT significantly improved growth performance as compared with the control and fish fed with Cu‐MMT had higher growth performance than those fed with MMT or CuSO4. Supplementation with Cu‐MMT reduced (P < 0.05) the total intestinal aerobic bacterial counts and affected the composition of intestinal microflora with Aeromonas, Vibrio, Pseudomonas, Flavobacterium, Acinetobacter, Alcaligence, Enterobacteriaceae decreasing as compared with the control. Addition of MMT improved (P < 0.05) the apparent digestibility of dry matter and crude protein, and the activities of intestinal amylase, lipase, and alkaline phosphatase as compared with the control. Addition of Cu‐MMT improved (P < 0.05) the apparent digestibilities of dry matter, crude protein, ether extract, and crude ash, and the activities of total protease, amylase, lipase, and alkaline phosphatase as compared with the control. While supplementation with CuSO4 had no (P > 0.05) effect on intestinal microflora, digestibility, and digestive enzyme activities the results showed that Cu‐MMT exhibited antibacterial activity in vivo resulting in a positive effect on digestive enzyme activities, and then promoted the digestion and absorption of dietary nutrition.  相似文献

The Caribbean scallops Argopecten nucleus and Nodipecten nodosus are currently being placed into mass culture in Colombia. The limited availability of wild seed upon which to base these cultures has promoted research into the development of artificial production of this seed in hatcheries. In support of this effort, we studied the effects of different diets on the physiology of the two scallop species in order to determine the optimal feeding regimes for maintenance of adult specimens in the laboratory. Seven monoalgal diets were tested, including Chaetoceros calcitrans, Chaetoceros muelleri, Isochrysis galbana (Ig), Nannochloris oculata (No), Phaeodactylum tricornutum (Pt), Tetraselmis chui (Tc) and Tetraselmis tetrahele (Tt). Four mixed diets were also tested, including I. galbana + C. calcitrans (Ig + Cc), I. galbana + N. oculata (Ig + No), I. galbana + T. tetrahele (Ig + Tt), and I. galbana + lipid emulsion of docosahexanoic acid DHA (Ig + lip). All the dietary trials were carried out under uniform conditions of temperature (25 °C), salinity (36‰) and algal concentration (0.45 mg L− 1). Physiological variables measured in association with each diet included feeding rates (clearance, ingestion and absorption), oxygen consumption and ammonium excretion rates as well as their scope for growth. The results showed that the best scope for growth for both scallops was obtained with diet Ig since this diet induced the highest feeding rates, accompanied by the lowest oxygen consumption and ammonium excretion. The feeding rates and scope for growth of A. nucleus were greater than those of N. nodosus for the majority of the diets, which was attributed to a higher rate of water pumping by the former species. Greater capacity for branchial food retention by A. nucleus was discarded as a possibility since N. nodosus had a greater branchial surface area per unit dry weight than A. nucleus. In spite of these differences, the oxygen consumption and the excretion rates were similar between the two scallops which suggested that A. nucleus was more efficient in its use of oxygen and retention of body proteins for physiological functioning. Mixed diets or addition of DHA did not permit increases in scope for growth in either of the scallops over that observed using monoalgal diet Ig, which suggest that biologically and economically this diet is optimal for the feeding of adult scallops in the laboratory.  相似文献

All seahorse species worldwide have been placed under CITES Appendix II since 2004, because they have been over-exploited for traditional Chinese medicine and aquarium trades. Aquaculture has been recognized as a long-term solution for sustaining the seahorse trade while minimizing wild collection. In this study, we evaluated the breeding and juvenile culture of an important aquarium seahorse species, the lined seahorse Hippocampus erectus, Perry 1810. Pairing, mating and copulation behavior were observed. Gestation time and brood size were 17.33 ± 2.94 days and 272.33 ± 66.45 individuals/brood, respectively. Growth rates differed among juveniles from different broods. Effects of temperature on the growth rates and survivorship of the juveniles during the first two weeks were compared. The highest growth rate and survivorship of the juveniles occurred at 28–29 °C among the temperatures tested (24–33 °C). Growth rate and survivorship of the juveniles during the first 9 weeks at 28 °C were investigated. The final standard length and survivorship of the juveniles were 6.32 ± 0.52 cm and 71.11 ± 10.18%, respectively, and the relationship between the wet weight and the standard length of the juvenile seahorses can be expressed as: W = 0.0034 L2.5535 (r2 = 0.9903, n = 12, P < 0.01). These findings suggest that H. erectus is a good candidate for commercial aquaculture.  相似文献

Levels of glucose, lactate, pO2, pCO2, HCO3, TCO2, Na+, K+, Cl, protein, and oxyhemocyanin in the hemolymph and its osmolality and pH were measured when tiger shrimp, Penaeus monodon (13.5 ± 1.5 g body weight), were individually injected with saline or dopamine at 10 8, 10 7, or 10 6 mol shrimp 1. Results showed that hemolymph glucose, lactate, pCO2, HCO3, and TCO2 values increased from 2 to 4 h; hemolymph osmolality, Na+, and total protein had increased at 2 h; and hemolymph K+ decreased from 2 to 8 h after the dopamine injection. All physiological parameters returned to the control values 4–16 h after receiving dopamine. The dopamine injection also significantly decreased the oxyhemocyanin/protein ratio of P. monodon which occurred at 2 h, resulting from an elevation of hemolymph protein and a slight decrease of oxyhemocyanin. These results suggest that stress-inducing dopamine caused a transient period of modulation of energy metabolism, osmoregulation, respiration, and the acid–base balance in P. monodon in adapting to this environmental stress.  相似文献

In coral aquaculture, sexual reproduction increasingly plays an important role for serving trade and reef restoration purposes. However, until coral juveniles reach a semi-stable size which makes them less vulnerable against algal growth and sedimentation, high mortality rates may occur in the first several weeks to months after settlement. In the present study, the influence of several food sources on the growth and survival of newly settled primary polyps was studied under laboratory conditions for 5 months. In order to estimate effects on specimens of both reproductive modes, experiments were carried out with the brooder, Favia fragum, and with the broadcast spawner, Acropora tenuis. Primary polyps kept in 2-liter aquaria were daily fed with freshly hatched Artemia salina, the micro algae Phaeodactylum tricornutum and a commercially available dry food (Nori Micro, Zoolife®), respectively, at various concentrations. Growth rates in both species were significantly higher in the Artemia treatment with maximum rates of 9.4 ± 4.9 mm2 (mean ± S.D.; d = 5 months) for F. fragum and 26.8 ± 10.3 mm2 (d = 5 months) for A. tenuis compared to all other treatments and the control (no additional food). Survival in F. fragum was overall higher than 60% in all treatments with maximum rates of 85.0 ± 12.6% at the highest Artemia concentration. Survival rates in A. tenuis ranged from 28.9 ± 4.7% (lowest Nori concentration) to 86.2 ± 5.9% (medium Artemia concentration). The present study shows that Artemia nauplii may greatly enhance the growth and partly enhance the survival of early sexual recruits which may significantly help to more rapidly overcome the early and most fragile post-settlement stages. As a consequence, the residence time for sexual coral recruits in cost- and labour-intensive hatcheries may be greatly reduced.  相似文献

The activities of main digestive enzyme (proteases, amylase and lipase) and animal husbandry (mainly growth and survival) were studied in common pandora Pagellus erythrinus larvae until 30 days after hatching (DAH). Three different illumination levels (10, 30 and 100 lx) were compared in triplicate and green water technique was carried out. At the end of the experiment, illumination did not affect neither survival nor growth except 10 lx treatment. Similarly, specific growth rate (SGR) was different in 10 lx treatment (p < 0.05), although no differences were found in group 30 and 100 lx treatments (p > 0.05). In all groups, trypsin and chymotrypsin specific activities were firstly detected on day 3 related with mouth opening and slightly increased until 20 and 25 DAH respectively, and after this date specific activities of those decreased. Although, there was a significant difference between 10 lx treatment and other experimental groups (p < 0.05), no differences were found in other treatments (p > 0.05). Pepsin was firstly detected on day 25 related with stomach formation and sharp increase was observed until 30 DAH and then slight decrease was measured from this date and no differences were found between all groups. Amylase was firstly determined on day 2 and increased to day 5. After this date, slight decreases were measured in all groups and continued until end of experiments. The highest specific activity of amylase was determined in 30 lx treatment and no significant differences were found between groups (p > 0.05). Lipase was firstly detected on day 4 and increased to day 10. Then, activity of lipase decreased until day 15 and increased again until 25 DAH. Slight decreases were found in all groups until day 30 and continued to end of experiments. No significant differences were detected among groups (p > 0.05).

Finally, the significant improvement in survival, larval development and specific enzyme activities of larvae were determined in 30 lx treated group. It is thought that this phenomenon is related to optimal keeping conditions provided by the medium illumination level for Pagellus erythrinus larvae.  相似文献

To examine the age, growth and reproduction of silky sharks, Carcharhinus falciformis, in the waters off northeastern Taiwan, 469 specimens (213 females and 256 males) were collected from August 2000 to January 2002 at the Nanfanao fish market, northeastern Taiwan. The relationship between body weight (W) and total length (TL) for both sexes combined was expressed as: W = 2.92 × 10−6 TL3.15 (n = 469, p < 0.01). The relationship between TL and vertebral centrum radius (R) for both sexes combined data was estimated as: TL = 25.979 + 18.197R (n = 250, p < 0.01). Growth bands (including translucent and opaque zones) in precaudal vertebrae formed once a year between December and January and were counted up to 11 and 14 for females and males, respectively. The von Bertalanffy growth function (VBGF) was used to model the observed length at age data. The sexes combined VBGF predicted an asymptotic length (L) = 332.0 cm TL, growth coefficient (k) = 0.0838 year−1, age at zero length (t0) = −2.761 year (n = 250, p < 0.01). Size at 50% maturity for males was estimated to be 212.5 cm based on the logistic curve, which corresponded to 9.3 years. Females matured at 210–220 cm, which correspond to 9.2–10.2 years. The length at birth was estimated to be 63.5–75.5 cm TL. The number of embryos per litter was 8–10 and sex ratio of embryos was 1:1.  相似文献

Feeding enriched Artemia induces growth failure in Pacific bluefin tuna (PBT) Thunnus orientalis larvae; however, feeding of yolk-sac larvae of marine fish promotes larval growth. It is considered that this growth failure partly results from dietary docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n-3, DHA) deficiency. Therefore, we examined the effect of DHA contents in enriched Artemia on the growth of PBT larvae. Artemia nauplii were enriched with graded levels of DHA ethyl ester, and fed to PBT larvae for 9 days. Yolk-sac larvae of Japanese parrotfish Oplegnathus fasciatus were used as a reference diet. The DHA contents in Artemia increased with the enrichment from 0 mg g− 1 dry weight basis (DW) to 25 mg g− 1 DW, while the content in the reference diet was 21 mg g− 1 DW. Feeding of enriched Artemia significantly improved the growth of PBT larvae. However, this improvement was negligible when compared with the excellent growth of the larvae that were fed the reference diet. PBT larvae that were fed the reference diet accumulated approximately twice or much higher levels of DHA in the neutral and polar lipids in the body when compared with the larvae that were fed enriched Artemia. These results show that PBT larval growth cannot be promoted by feeding enriched Artemia even if the DHA contents in Artemia are elevated to the same levels as those of yolk-sac larvae. The incorporation of dietary DHA into phospholipids in the fish body may be desirable for the normal growth of PBT larvae.  相似文献

Gene transfer has offered a new tool for the development of improved fish strains for aquaculture. Monosex fish populations could minimize the impact of genetically modified organisms in the environment. In Oreochromis aureus, the use of pseudofemale spawners (sex-reversed male with a female phenotype) is an alternative technique for producing genetically male tilapia offspring. O. aureus fry were treated with 17β-estradiol at 100 mg/kg of food for 45 days. We obtained 77.1% females and 45.9% in the control group. Females randomly taken from the treated group were crossed with normal males. Fry from pseudofemales producing more than 90% male progenies were submitted to 17 β-estradiol treatment to obtain F2 pseudofemales. The results of the sex-reversal were low and variable ranging between 66.0 and 84.3% females. F2 pseudofemales were crossed with transgenic males from the F70 line (O. aureus × O. urolepis hornorum) and non-transgenic (O. aureus) males. The sex ratio of progeny of F2 pseudofemale deviated significantly (P < 0.01) in favor of males in the crosses with transgenic (90.2%) and non-transgenic (89.3%) males compared to the results observed with normal females (51.0 and 52.3%, respectively). The mean fry production with pseudofemales (per m2/day) was similar to the normal females in the crosses with transgenic and non-transgenic males. To our knowledge this is the first report on the production of a near monosex population in genetically modified fish.  相似文献

A growth experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of replacement of fish meal (FM) by meat and bone meal (MBM) in diets on the growth and body composition of large yellow croaker (Pseudosciaena crocea). Six isonitrogenous (43% crude protein) and isoenergetic (20 kJ g− 1) diets replacing 0, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75% FM protein by MBM protein were formulated. Each diet was randomly allocated to triplicate groups of fish in sea floating cages (1.0 × 1.0 × 1.5 m), and each cage was stocked with 180 fish (initial average weight of 1.88 ± 0.02 g). Fish were fed twice daily (05:00 and 17:30) to apparent satiation for 8 weeks. The water temperature ranged from 26.5 to 32.5 °C, salinity from 32 to 36‰, and dissolved oxygen content was approximately 7 mg l− 1 during the experimental period. Survival decreased with increasing dietary MBM and the survival in the fish fed the diet with 75% protein from MBM was significantly lower than other groups (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in specific growth rate (SGR) among the fish fed the diets with 0 (the control group), 15, 30 and 45% protein from MBM. However, SGR in the fish fed the diets with 60 and 75% protein from MBM were significantly lower than other groups (P < 0.05). No significant differences in feeding rate were observed among dietary treatments. The digestibility experiment showed that the apparent digestibility coefficients (ADC) of dry matter, protein, lipid and energy of MBM were significantly lower compared with those of FM (P < 0.05). Essential amino acid index was found to be correlated positively with SGR in the present study, suggesting that essential amino acid balance was important. Body composition analysis showed that the carcass protein and essential amino acids were not significantly affected by dietary MBM. The lipid and n-3 highly unsaturated fatty acid (n-3 HUFA) in fish muscle, however, significantly decreased with increasing dietary MBM. These results showed that 45% of FM protein could be replaced by MBM protein in diets of large yellow croaker without significantly reducing growth. It was suggested that the reduced growth with higher MBM was due to lower digestibility and imbalance of essential amino acids.  相似文献

The copper plus zinc superoxide dismutase (Cu, Zn-SOD) was purified from haemolymph of the Oriental river prawn, Macrobrachium nipponense and partially characterized. Partial protein precipitation in crude extract was affected by using heat treatment and (NH4)2SO4 fractionated precipitation methods. Fractionation of superoxide dismutase was performed by DEAE-cellulose 32 ion-exchange chromatography and followed by CM-cellulose cation-exchange chromatography. The molecular weight of it was about 66.1 kDa, as judged by SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The enzyme was sensitive to cyanide and H2O2, and contained 1.08 ± 0.14 atom of copper and 0.98 ± 0.11 zinc per subunit shown in atomic absorption spectroscopy, which revealed that purified SOD was Cu, Zn superoxide dismutase. The purified enzyme had an absorption peak of 269 nm in ultraviolet region and the enzyme remained stable at 25–45 °C within 60 min. But it was rapidly inactivated at higher temperature (50 °C). The activity of purified shrimp Cu, Zn-SOD was remained stable over the range pH 5.8–8.3. Treated with 10 mM mercaptoethanol, the enzyme activity significantly increased. However, the enzyme activity was obviously inhibited by 10 mM CaCl2, ZnCl2, SDS, EDTA–Na2 and 1 mM and 10 mM K2Cr2O7. The results showed that it might be a kind of EC-SOD. And it was the first report of some characterizations of this EC-SOD in M. nipponense.  相似文献

L. vannamei postlarvae are normally raised with a protein dense diet (50% protein) rich in fishmeal. Part of the protein is utilized for energy purpose instead of protein synthesis. Based on a previous energy partitioning study, the effects of two isoenergetic compounded feed treatments – animal protein (AP) and vegetable protein and carbohydrates (VPC) – upon growth efficiency and energy budget of shrimp postlarvae and early juveniles were determined. Recovered energy (RE) or production (P) after 50 days trial was similar (2 J day 1) in both treatments, from PL14 to PL19. However, early juveniles discriminated between animal protein (116 J day 1) and vegetable protein and carbohydrates (88 J day 1). The difference in respiration indicated a higher heat increment with AP compared to VPC. At maintenance level, energy used was lower with AP than VPC treatment. Postlarvae and early juveniles employed protein as a main energy substrate (O:N < 20). Differences in the efficiencies observed in the calculated energy budget were attributed to the presence of carbohydrates in diet and not to the protein source. The advantage of incorporating vegetable protein source in the diet of harvesting shrimp may eventually contribute towards a reduction of fishmeal costs and waste products as well as to achieve sustainable shrimp farming.  相似文献

The effects of feed intake level on energy and nitrogen partitioning were studied in juvenile Atlantic cod (250 g) fed two fish meal based diets differing in protein and lipid content (54:31 and 65:16) at 10 °C. Replicate groups of cod were feed deprived for 32 days or fed one of the two diets at 25, 50, 75 or 100% of group satiation for 60 days. Feed intake and oxygen consumption were measured daily and weights and chemical composition of carcass, liver, viscera and whole body were measured at start and end. Diet digestibilities were assessed in a separate experiment.

The whole body and carcass growth rates at a given feed intake did not differ between dietary groups, but the liver grew faster in the fish fed the low protein diet, resulting in higher hepatosomatic indices at the end of the experiment in the groups fed this diet.

The efficiency of utilisation of digestible nitrogen for growth (kDNg) was higher for the low protein diet (0.73 ± 0.02) than for the high protein diet (0.53 ± 0.05), resulting in higher nitrogen retention at a given nitrogen intake. No difference in percentage nitrogen retention was seen in full-fed fish however (31.2 ± 2.5 and 28.4 ± 1.6% for the low protein and high protein diets, respectively). This can be explained by higher nitrogen intake in the fish fed the high protein diet, resulting in a smaller proportion of the intake being used for maintenance.

There was no difference in energy utilisation between dietary groups. The digestible energy requirement for maintenance (DEmaint) was 53.8 ± 0.9 kJ kg− 1 d− 1 (42.3 ± 0.7 kJ kg− 0.8 d− 1) and the utilisation efficiency for growth (kDEg) was 0.80 ± 0.02. The energy retention in full-fed fish was 31.3 ± 3.5 and 31.7 ± 1.0% for the low protein and high protein diets, respectively. The deposited energy was distributed in approximately equal proportions in the liver and carcass, whereas viscera accounted for a minor proportion. At a given energy intake, the fish fed the high protein diet deposited more energy in the carcass and less in the liver than did those fed the low protein diet.  相似文献
