The black bream Acanthopagrus butcheri recreational fishery is the largest estuarine fishery in Victoria. This fishery is managed through legal-minimum length and daily bag limits. The success of this management strategy requires a high survival rate for released fish. Deep-hooking is known to reduce the chance of fish survival after recreational capture and release. This study investigated the potential to reduce deep-hooking and the number of under-size A. butcheri caught by varying angling gear and techniques. Three sizes of long shank hook (small [size 8], medium [size 4] and large [size 1/0]) and two angling techniques (slack line and tight line) were tested for their deep-hooking rates and selectivity characteristics. Increasing the hook size from small to large decreased the likelihood of deep-hooking by 6.6 times (95% CI 2.3–16.3 times). Fishing with a tight line instead of a slack line decreased the chance of deep-hooking by almost 100% (95% CI 0.8–3.6). Fishing with a large hook instead of a small hook significantly (F = 6.71, df = 2, P = <0.001) increased the mean A. butcheri length, although this mean size increase was less than 1 cm. This study was able to identify angling gear and angling technique manipulations that reduced the rate of deep-hooking when targeting A. butcheri in Victorian estuaries.  相似文献

From 2003 through 2006, 18,180 big skate (Raja binoculata) were tagged in three regions in British Columbia, Canada: northern Hecate Strait, Queen Charlotte Sound and the west coast of Vancouver Island. To date, this is the largest tagging program conducted for skates or rays worldwide. As of December 31, 2008, 7% of the tagged fish (n = 1238) have been recaptured through the commercial fisheries. Generally, 75% of the recaptured fish were recaptured within 21 km of the tagging location. Long-range movements (up to 2340 km) were undertaken by a small percentage (1.5%) of the recaptured fish. Tagged big skate were recaptured in waters off of Oregon, Washington, throughout the Gulf of Alaska and the Bering Sea. The majority of big skate recaptured outside of Canadian waters were female (83%, n = 15), of which 80% (n = 12) were likely immature at release. Three methods of estimating growth parameters were employed and produced varying results. The Gulland and Holt method was not able to produce growth parameter estimates. The GROTAG method for combined sexes produced von Bertalanffy growth curve parameters L (294.7 cm), K (0.05) and t0 (?1.44) that were similar to published estimates for British Columbia big skates. The von Bertalanffy growth curve parameters produced by Fabens method for combined sexes were L = 168.6 cm, K = 0.16 and t0 = ?0.81.  相似文献

This paper profiles the reproductive biology of and investigates the resilience of Tasmanian striped trumpeter under different levels of fishing pressure and size at entry to the fishery using per-recruit analysis. The spawning season around Tasmania occurs in the austral spring, with peak spawning activity in September and October. Size at 50% maturity was estimated at 543 mm fork length (FL) for females (estimated age = 6.8 years) and 529 mm FL for males (estimated age = 6.2 years). Striped trumpeter is a multiple spawner with batch fecundity estimates ranging from 205,054 for a 2 kg fish (540 mm FL) to 2,351,029 for a 9.5 kg fish (800 mm FL). At the current minimum legal size limit of 450 mm total length (equivalent to approximately 425 mm FL), yield-per-recruit was estimated to be close to maximum, and spawning biomass-per-recruit (SPR) ranged from 35 to 52% of virgin stock, depending on the mortality estimates used. Although these SPR are at a level considered sustainable, this methodology does not incorporate temporal variability, specifically recruitment variability. Therefore, conservative management measures are recommended until a dynamic model is applied to the striped trumpeter population.  相似文献

The sharptail mola, Masturus lanceolatus, is one of the largest teleost fishes in the world, and can be found in warm temperate and tropical regions worldwide. The increase of sharptail mola catch in the eastern Taiwan in recent years stimulated a concern that increasing exploitation of this species might lead to a decline of the stock. However, biological information of this species is very limited. Hence, this study provides the first information on age and growth of this species in the waters off eastern Taiwan based on 265 specimens (105 females and 160 males) collected from January 2003 to November 2006 at the Nanfanao and Hualien fish markets, eastern Taiwan. The relationships between whole weight (W) and standard length were expressed as: W = 9.98 × 10?4 SL2.45 (n = 105, p < 0.01) for females, and W = 3.33 × 10?4 SL2.68 (n = 160, p < 0.01) for males. Based on the MIR analysis, growth band pairs (including translucent and opaque bands) in vertebrae formed once a year and were counted up to 23 and 16 for females and males, respectively. Three growth functions, the von Bertalanffy (VBGF), Robertson, and Gompertz, were used to model the observed length at age data. The VBGF had the best fit and predicted an asymptotic length (L) = 262.5 cm SL, growth coefficient (k) = 0.046 yr?1, age at zero length (t0) = ?3.350 yr (n = 80, p < 0.01) for females, and L = 231.0 cm SL, k = 0.059 yr?1, t0 = ?1.852 yr (n = 135, p < 0.01) for males. The longevities were estimated to be 105 and 82 yr based on the VBGF for females and males, respectively.  相似文献

Pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) is an important fish species for professional and sport fisheries in the Alto-Paraguay Basin, located in the central western Brazil. In this study the D-loop control region of mtDNA sequence data was used to investigate genetic variability within and among populations of pacu. A total of 99 individuals were collected in the Paraguay River and in four other main tributaries. From these, 27 different haplotypes were observed. The overall nucleotide diversity and haplotype diversity were high in all sampling sites with 0.013 ± 0.001 and 0.840 ± 0.035, respectively. Hierarchical AMOVA analysis showed that pacu populations form a single panmictic population with low ΦST = ?0.0012 (p = 0.486) and high gene flow among rivers. Despite high genetic variability, the total capture officially landed in the Upper-Paraguay River Basin has been decreasing steadily during the last years with indications of overexploitation. Taking into account the heterogeneity of habitats, continuous anthropogenic disturbances and lack of genetic structure, it appears that fish from these sampling sites function as a metapopulation, a framework that may be applied to long term fishery management of pacu in the Panatanal.  相似文献

The effect of a high and low non-starch polysaccharide diet (HNSP and LNSP diet) and ultrasound treatment on particle size distribution and carbon bioavailability in fecal waste of rainbow trout (Oncorynchus mykiss) was studied. Feces were collected from four flow-through fish tanks, two tanks fed the HNSP diet and two the LNSP diet. The collected feces were sonicated (disintegrated) in duplicate with high-intensity (0.6 W/ml), low-frequency (f = 20 Hz) ultrasound at five different energy levels (0.6 W/ml for 0, 0.25, 1, 4, and 16 min). The particle size distribution of the treated feces samples was measured by wet sieving (1000, 500, 200, 100, 63, 36, 1.2 μm screen size) and total suspended solids (TSS) measurement. Carbon bioavailability in sonicated fecal waste samples was determined with oxygen uptake rate (OUR) tests. The results showed that: (1) feces from the HNSP diet contained significant more particulate material and bigger particles; (2) carbon bioavailability was almost three times higher in untreated LNSP feces when compared with HNSP feces; (3) almost 50% of HNSP feces could have been recovered on a microscreen of 36 μm after wet sieving, whereas it was only 10% for LNSP feces; (4) the production of small particles (1.2–36 μm), which could pass a drum filter screen and potentially accumulate in RAS, was approximately 50 g/kg feed, showing no significant differences between diets; (5) sonication increased fecal dry matter below 36 μm (p = 0.015), but it had no significant effect on the median particle size; (6) sonication increased carbon bioavailability with 7–10% for the HNSP feces (p = 0.037); (7) fecal particles withstood up to 16 min sonication at an intensity of 0.6 W/ml and a frequency of 20 Hz corresponding to specific energy input of 20,000 kJ/kg DM without major changes in particle size distribution. The results of this study indicate that the applied ultrasound treatment of fecal waste is not an effective method to increase short-term carbon bioavailability.  相似文献

The east Atlantic-Mediterranean penaeid Melicertus kerathurus constitutes a valuable resource for Mediterranean fisheries. In recent years, its world production is almost totally based on the yields from Greece and Tunisia. A two-year study of prawn stock in Thermaikos Gulf (NW Aegean Sea) provided information on age, growth and mortality of the species. M. kerathurus exhibits a marked sexual growth dimorphism, with females showing an overall wider size range and greater size than males. Mean monthly size, CLmax were also in favor of females. Monthly age classes varied from one to four for females and from one to three for males, and corresponded to three generations (0+, 1+, 2+). New generation (0+) cohorts recruited into fishery in waves, from late summer to February. According to the von Bertalanffy growth curve, females grow larger than males, but there is a prominent seasonal growth oscillation in both sexes (females: CL = 62.48, K = 1.15, C = 0.87, WP = 0.16, Rn = 0.170; males: CL = 47.78, K = 1.28, C = 0.97, WP = 0.12, Rn = 0.205). Growth performance indices (φ′, φ) and longevity were in favor of females. K values for both sexes in Thermaikos Gulf are the highest reported for the species, suggesting a higher growth rate and a lower longevity. Estimated values for total, natural and fishery mortality were greater in males. In both sexes, an exploitation rate E > 0.5 was found, implying an intense fishing impact on M. kerathurus stock in Thermaikos Gulf. Intense exploitation in other parts of the Mediterranean and eastern Atlantic, along with the replacement of the species by Eritrean penaeid prawns in the eastern Mediterranean, has resulted in a severe reduction in catches, in most countries. Thus, existing stocks of M. kerathurus should be considered as potentially endangered, and species-specific initiatives towards sustainable management of this resource should be implemented.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of the use of astaxanthin alternate feeding on rainbow trout pigmentation in term of astaxanthin serum concentration, muscle colour and astaxanthin muscle retention. Four hundred and fifty rainbow trout were fed the same basal diet supplemented with two different astaxanthin levels, 100, and 200 mg astaxanthin kg? 1 of diet, hereafter designated as AX100 and AX200, respectively. An additional astaxanthin-free (AX0) diet was used. The experimental treatments were as follows: (1) REF = AX100 diet at each meal each day, served as reference; (2) SD1 = AX100 diet at each meal the first day followed by AX0 diet at each meal every second day; (3) SD2 = AX100 diet and AX0 diet in alternate meals each day; (4) R2 = AX200 diet and AX0 diet in alternate meals each day; (5) R4 = AX200 diet at the first meal the first day followed by AX0 diet at the second meal the first day and at each meal every second day. Fish were fed the experimental feeding schedule for 42 days.At the end of the experiment there were no significant differences among fish fed the different feeding schedules in term of final mean weight, specific growth rate and feed efficiency ratio. SD2 fish group displayed the highest (P < 0.05) astaxanthin serum concentration and the R4 fish group the lowest one. REF and R2 fish groups showed similar astaxanthin serum concentrations. Muscle chroma showed the most pronounced effect. It increased significantly for all fish groups during the experiment. At the end of the experiment REF and R2 fish groups displayed higher values than SD1 and R4 fish groups. Muscle astaxanthin concentrations increased significantly during the experiment whatever the astaxanthin feeding schedule. At the end of the experiment, the highest muscle astaxanthin concentration was recorded for R2 fish group while the lowest was noted for R4 fish group. Except for SD1 and R4 fish groups, muscle astaxanthin retention decreased significantly during the experiment. At the end of the experiment, muscle astaxanthin retention coefficients for SD2 fish group were significantly higher than those for REF fish group. The results reported here provide further evidence of the potential applicability of alternate astaxanthin feeding on rainbow trout pigmentation. Extending the optimisation of the SD2 treatment will therefore be subject for future studies. Its application could result in cost saving in the fish farming industry.  相似文献

Fish oxygen requirement is a fundamental variable of aquaculture system design and management, as it is the basis for determining water flow rates for sustaining stock. A study on oxygen consumption of California halibut (Paralichthys californicus) between 3.2 and 165.6 g was conducted in small raceways (2.41 m long, 0.28 m wide, and 0.22 m high; operational water depth between 0.05 and 0.10 m with a quiescent zone 19 cm long in the effluent section) working as open respirometers in a recirculating system under farm-like conditions. The fish were fed commercial dry pelleted feeds at a ratio of ∼0.70–3.00% of body weight (BW) and stocked at densities between 94% and 316% percent coverage area (PCA). Oxygen consumption rates were determined by mass balance calculations. The mean and maximum oxygen consumption rates (g O2/kg fish/day) for juvenile California halibut under the conditions tested can be expressed by Mday = 15.077W−0.2452 and Mday = 17.266W−0.2033, respectively, where W is fish weight in grams. The determination of oxygen consumption by California halibut in farm-like conditions provides valuable information on the oxygen requirement of these fish in an aquacultural setting. This information can be used for designing and sizing a rearing facility for the intensive culture of California halibut.  相似文献

The effect of different food (live Acetes spp., live Mysis spp., frozen Mysis spp., and mixed food of 50% live Acetes spp. and 50% frozen Mysis spp.) on gonad development of seahorses, Hippocampus kuda Bleeker, was evaluated in this experiment. The developmental durations of testes and ovary of seahorses were significantly different among the four experimental treatments. The live Acetes spp. treatment presented the shortest developmental durations to stage V, which were 87.6 ± 3.84 days and 89.2 ± 3.71 days, respectively, for ovary and testes. The frozen Mysis spp. treatment had the longest developmental durations (F3,15 = 13.284, P < 0.05). The relationship between developmental duration of the ovary and gonad developmental stages could be formulated: Y1 = 12.04x + 24.36 (r2 = 0.9722, n = 16, P < 0.05). The gonadosomatic index (GSI) of parent seahorses among the four treatments differed significantly (F3,15 = 18.364, P < 0.05). The standard GSI of seahorses fed live Acetes spp. was 15.64 ± 1.65%, which was the highest. Feeding live food had a significant effect on the fecundity and spawning of seahorses. The fecundity and spawning number of the live Acetes spp. treatment were 598 ± 45.49 and 552 ± 49.19 individuals, respectively, which were dramatically higher than those of frozen treatment (F3,19 = 34.152, P < 0.05). Live food also had a similar effect on the fertilization and hatching rate during the embryonic development of seahorses (F3,19 = 11.386, P < 0.05). Food treatment could also induce an indirect effect on survival rate of juveniles through gonadal and embryonic development of the parents (F3,15 = 14.519, P < 0.05). In this experiment, the mortality within parent seahorses in the frozen Mysis spp. treatment was the highest (15.1 ± 6.55%), and the survival of juveniles was the highest in the live Acetes spp. treatment (90.4 ± 2.26% at 10 days). In conclusion, feeding live Acetes spp. significantly benefited the gonadal and embryonic development of H. kuda. The effect of temperature (22 °C, 24 °C, 26 °C, 28 °C, 30 °C and 32 °C) on the hatching time of H. kuda was also studied. We demonstrated that the higher the temperature, the shorter the hatching time, as well as the higher the hatching speed. The relationship between hatching time and temperature could be expressed: T =  39.337 t + 677.75 (r2 = 0.9755, n = 30, P < 0.05). In this finding, we provided the sum of effective temperature (SET) and threshold temperature of embryonic development of H. kuda (14066.9 °C h 1 and 13.7 °C, respectively). This new information on the effect of feeding type and culture temperature is beneficial for the commercial rearing and breeding industry of this species.  相似文献

The pelagic thresher shark, Alopias pelagicus, is a cosmopolitan species and abundant in Taiwan waters. Some of its biological information has been documented yet its population dynamics are poorly known. The purpose of this study is to assess the pelagic thresher shark stock status in the eastern Taiwan waters. The whole weights (W) of 51,748 individuals of the pelagic thresher shark landed at Nanfanao and Chengkung fish markets, eastern Taiwan from 1990 to 2004 were converted to precaudal length (PCL) based on the W–PCL relationship (W = 2.25 × 10−4 × PCL2.533, n = 2165). The sexes combined VBGE Lt = 189.5 × (1  e−0.10(t+6.47)) was used to estimate the age for each length group. Total mortality rates (Z) obtained with length-converted catch curves ranged from 0.208 to 0.277 year−1. Natural mortality rate (M) estimated from Hoenig method was 0.132 year−1, and exploitation rate (E) ranged from 0.069 to 0.127 for 1990–2004. Annual abundance was estimated to range from 97,551 in 2000 to 153,331 in 2003 from virtual population analysis, and the highest fishing mortality occurred in ages 8–18 years. There were four different scenarios being simulated in this study. Scenario 1 indicated that spawning per recruit (SPR) ranged from 23.07% in 2001 to 47.71% in 1990 with a mean of 36.41% for the period of 1990–2004. The mean SPR of pelagic thresher for 1990–2004 was below the BRP of SPR = 35% in scenarios 2–4 suggesting that this stock was slightly overexploited. Therefore, to ensure sustainable utilization of this stock, reduction of fishing effort and close monitoring on A. pelagicus are needed.  相似文献

A laboratory study was conducted to assess the effect of PIT tagging on survival and growth of young-of-the-year brown trout (Salmo trutta) and evaluate PIT tag loss as a function of body size at tagging. Transponders (11.5 mm long and 2.1 mm in diameter) were injected into the peritoneal cavity of fish ranging from 41 to 70 mm fork length (FL) using hypodermic needles. A total of 145 tagged fish and 136 control fish of similar size were reared over 4 weeks. Logistic regressions show that survival rate reached 95% for fish ≥52 mm FL at tagging (with a tag retention rate >70%), and 99% for fish ≥57 mm FL (tag retention rate >80%). No significant effect of tagging on growth (fork length and weight) was detected at the end of the experiment. The specific growth rate varied markedly among PIT-tagged fish regardless of fork length, weight or tag-to-body-weight ratio at tagging. Results suggest that juvenile brown trout larger than 57 mm FL (tag-to-body weight ratio in water <3.4%) can be marked by injection of 11.5 mm PIT into the peritoneal cavity with negligible effects on survival and growth, but this leads to a relatively high tag rejection rate (up to 20%).  相似文献

The life history of an increasingly important pelagic commercial and sport fish, the Talang queenfish, Scomberoides commersonnianus, was studied in northern Australia to investigate the stock status and assess current management of the species using minimum legal lengths (MLL). Estimated von Bertalanffy growth parameters were L = 1404 mm FL, K = 0.10 year−1 and t0 = −1.21 year−1. There was no significant difference in growth between sexes. Ages ranged from 1 to 11 years with age composition differing between the commercial (mainly 6–7 years) and sport fishery (mainly 2–4 years). Females matured (L50) at 635 mm FL and 4–5 years. Spawning occurred between August and March when mature females were estimated to produce 259,488–2,859,935 eggs per spawning. Natural mortality (M) was estimated as 0.16–0.26 year−1, while the combined fishing mortality (Fcurrent) from commercial and sport fisheries was 0.38–0.48 year−1. Yield-per-recruit analyses revealed that under current MLL limits (no MLL or 45 cm TL) and natural mortality (M = 0.16, 0.2 and 0.26 year−1), Fcurrent exceeded the reference points Fmax (0.15–0.22 year−1) and F0.1 (0.10–0.15 year−1), suggesting the stock may be growth overfished if the current situation remains unchanged. Although a stock–recruitment relationship is unknown, spawning stock biomass-per-recruit analysis indicates the stock may also be recruitment overfished since Fcurrent exceeded the reference points F25% (0.19–0.24 year−1) and F40% (0.11–0.15 year−1). Increasing the MLL corresponding to L50 of females (70 cm TL) will greatly improve the yield and long-term sustainability of the stock, and also enhance the sport fishery by increasing the number of larger trophy fish.  相似文献

Short-term hooking mortality was evaluated for three sparid species [Diplodus vulgaris (Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire), Sparus aurata L. and Spondyliosoma cantharus (L.)] in the Algarve, south Portugal. Fishes were caught from the shore during October 2009 at a fish farm reservoir (Ria Formosa), using three different hook sizes. The relationships between hooking mortality and seven independent variables were analyzed using logistic regression models. In all, 384 fishes representing the three target species were caught during the angling sessions. The most caught species was S. cantharus (n = 181; 100% undersized), followed by S. aurata (n = 137; 89% undersized) and D. vulgaris (n = 66; 97% undersized). Mortalities ranged between 0% for D. vulgaris and 12% for S. aurata (S. cantharus, 3%). For S. aurata, anatomical hooking location was the main predictor of mortality, with 63% of the fishes that died being deeply hooked. Our results support the current mandatory practices of releasing undersized fish for the studied species, given the low post-release mortality rates observed.  相似文献

Settling rates of faecal material from three size categories of cultured gilthead sea bream, Sparus aurata, and sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax, were determined. Faecal material was collected from underneath commercial cages and subsequently transferred to a settling column. Particle settling velocity was determined using particle tracking software. Image analysis software was used to determine dimensions of selected faecal particles from which particle volume was then estimated. Faecal particles (all fish sizes) had a mean settling velocity of 0.48 cm/s (range 0.05–3.94 cm/s, n = 1021) for sea bream and 0.70 cm/s (range 0.10–6.27 cm/s, n = 1042) for sea bass. The faecal material largely consisted of very small particles and mean particle size was 0.71 mm (n = 151) and 1.12 mm (n = 150) for S. aurata and D. labrax, respectively. More than 50% of the total particle volume had a settling velocity less than 2.0 cm/s in all S. aurata size categories. In D. labrax, more than 75% of the total particle volume had settling velocities greater than 2.0 cm/s. The particle tracking DEPOMOD model was highly sensitive to different representations of these data. The predicted seabed flux of waste faecal material (g/m2/year) for D. labrax using the mean settling velocity at 0 m and 50 m from the cage was 3196 g/m2/year and 248 g/m2/year, respectively. However, when using particle settling velocity and volume distribution data, the predicted flux was over three times greater at 0 m but five times less at 50 m. For S. aurata, the predicted flux using the mean settling velocity was 3018 g/m2/year and 464 g/m2/year at 0 and 50 m, respectively. However, where distribution data were used, the values were over twice as high at 0 m and but were halved at 50 m. These results indicate that use of a single mean settling velocity value in this type of modelling does not accurately predict the extent of benthic flux. In addition, species-specific faecal settling rates should be used when modelling polyculture operations.  相似文献

Irrigated rice fields have enormous potential for expanding the aquaculture production in rice producing countries. Two field experiments were carried out at the Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, to optimize the productivity of integrated rice–fish systems using Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.), and common carp, Cyprinus carpio L. Both experiments were laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replicates per treatment and regular rice monoculture as control. In the first trial, carp and tilapia were tested in single culture and in mixed culture with supplementary feeding at 2× maintenance level. The highest fish yield was obtained in the carp/tilapia mixed culture (586 ± 125 kg ha 1), followed by tilapia alone (540 ± 65 kg ha 1), and carp alone (257 ± 95 kg ha 1). Carp had significantly lower yield than the other two fish groups (p < 0.05) due to high mortality and inefficient feed utilization. As the carp/tilapia combination performed the best in the first experiment, it was tested with different inputs in the second trial, i.e. regular urea fertilization and two different feeding levels. The feeding levels were: continuous feeding at 2× maintenance level (feed level I) and a declining feeding schedule from 4× to 2× maintenance level (feed level II). The highest fish yield was obtained in feed level II (935 ± 29 kg ha 1), followed by feed level I (776 ± 22 kg ha 1), and the non-fed group (515 ± 85 kg ha 1). Yield differences between the treatments were significant at p < 0.05. Rice yields showed controversial effects between the rice–fish treatments and were dependent on the inputs provided. The highest rice production (4.2 t ha 1) was obtained from rice–fish plots with regular urea fertilization. Various significant effects of fish on water quality parameters were observed. Fish decreased the dissolved oxygen (DO) and pH value compared to rice only, especially when supplementary feed was provided. Moreover, fish stimulated the growth of phytoplankton and increased chlorophyll-a concentration. In conclusion, carp/tilapia mixed culture with supplementary feeding was found to be optimal for maximizing the output from rice–fish culture.  相似文献

Aeration experiments were conducted in a brick masonry tank of dimension 4 m × 4 m × 1.5 m to study the design characteristics of pooled circular stepped cascade (PCSC) aeration system. Based on dimensional analysis, non-dimensional numbers related to geometric, dynamic and process parameters were proposed. The non-dimensional geometric parameters – number of steps (N), ratio of total height of cascade (H) to the bottom radius of cascade (Rb), % coverage of circumference of each step by enclosure (Pe) and number of enclosures in each step (Ne) were optimized. Maintaining the optimized geometric parameters (N = 6, H/Rb = 0.25, Pe = 20% and Ne = 9), aeration experiments were further conducted at different discharges (Q) to develop simulation equations for prediction of aeration characteristics of PCSC aeration system at different dynamic conditions. Simulation equations for oxygen transfer and power consumption based on Froude (Fr) criterion were developed subject to 0.0014  Fr  0.0144. SAE of the developed prototype PCSC aerators based on estimated brake power ranged between 2.43 and 3.23 kg O2/kWh.  相似文献

We used a chemical marking experiment to validate the daily periodicity of otolith increment deposition in juvenile sablefish, Anoplopoma fimbria. The sagittal otoliths of 26 live juvenile sablefish were marked twice by immersion in saltwater baths containing elevated levels of strontium chloride (SrCl2) during June–August of their first year of life (age 0). The number of otolith increments detected between strontium bands from three readings (median 15–20) was compared to the number of days between marking events (15–17 days). Median discrepancies between otolith increment counts and days between strontium bands were small (mean 1.1, S.E. 0.81, n = 20) and suggest that otolith increment counts from age 0 juvenile sablefish may provide a useful proxy for daily age. However, median discrepancies in June (mean 4.7, S.E. 0.65, n = 9 otoliths) were significantly (*P  0.05) higher than those in July (mean −1.8, S.E. 0.40, n = 6) and August (mean −1.8, S.E. 0.66, n = 5). Increment banding patterns were more difficult to identify in otoliths marked in June (mean sablefish size 84.9 mm FL) because of changes in the structure of the sagittae associated with the formation of accessory primordia.  相似文献

Avoidance reactions of young-of-the-year fish assemblages were investigated in the offshore zone of three reservoirs in the Czech Republic during late summer. Pikeperch (Stizostedion lucioperca) strongly dominated in the Lipno Reservoir in 2003, bream (Abramis brama) and bleak (Alburnus alburnus) were the most abundant species in the Slapy Reservoir in 2004 and roach (Rutilus rutilus) and bleak dominated in the Želivka Reservoir in 2004 and 2005. Densities of fry ranged between 1.09 ind./100 m3 in the Lipno Reservoir and 2.95 ind./100 m3 in the Slapy Reservoir. In each reservoir, three trawl nets of different widths (dimensions 1.5 m × 3 m, 3 m × 3 m, 6 m × 3 m) were used in the pelagic area at night. For each trawl the estimated fish density was determined as the catch per 100 m3 of water and was compared between all three trawls. The fish length–frequency distribution was also compared between all the trawls. Day catches were much lower compared with those taken at night. Adult fish showed very clear avoidance of fry trawls. At night, no important differences in estimated fry density, obtained by these trawls, were observed in any locality for any fish species, nor in the length distribution of important species between trawls. According to these results, the avoidance reactions of fry in the late summer (August, September), at night, are unimportant. At this time of year, nighttime pelagic trawling appears to be an effective method for quantitative fry sampling. We recommend the 3 m × 3 m trawl for quantitative night sampling of the fry community as a good compromise between assured efficiency and relatively easy handling.  相似文献
