科技英语定语从句汉译的句法重构

在科技英汉翻译实践中,定语从句的翻译往往较难处理,这主要缘于英汉两种语系的迥异差别,英语属形合语言,偏重形式的整合,而汉语属意合语言,偏重意义的整合。事实上,汉语中并没有定语从句之说,作为修饰成分的定语习惯上被放在修饰词之前,汉语没有长定语;而英语定语从句位置较灵活,英语的定语从句在逻辑意义上有时具有状语意义,而汉语的定语一般不具备这种功能。这些差别使得译者在翻译时必须善于变通,根据上下文语境适当在句法层面上调整、灵活处理。

An Approach to Scientific English Attributive Clause Translation from the Perspective of Syntax Reconstruction

In scientific English-Chinese translation, the conveying of attributive clause has been a delicate issue due to the differences between the structure of the two languages, namely hypotaxis and parataxis structure. In many cases, English attributive clauses can＇t be conveyed as attributive structure in Chinese. Therefore, a translator has to make some modification on the syntax level in the light of the logical and semantic relationship of the original sentence.
