| Abstract: | The present work reports the chromosome numbers of 12 species, 2 varieties and 158 cultivars of Crataegus plants in China. Chromosome number of each species is shown in Table 1. Chromosome numbers of the other 4 species, 2 varieties, 118 cultivars are reported for the first time. It was found that Crataegus songarica K. Kcch and the cultivated varieties "yidouchangkou" hawthorn of Shandong are tetraploids (2n=4x=68), and "Baiyangmian" howthorn,"Hangyangmian" hawthorn, "jinxian" the big hawthorn, "Zuofu 1" hawthorn, "Zuofu 2" howthorn are triploids (2n=3x =51), while all the rest are diploids(2n=2x=34). |
