Abstract: | This paper presents an integrated feasibility study on designing systems for remediating petroleum-contaminated sites. Its consists of components of site-condition investigation, multiphase multicomponent transport modeling, remediation technology screening, and remediation-system design. These components are incorporated within a general framework to effectively address the system complexities. Application of the developed method to a petroleum-contaminated site in western Canada indicates that reasonable results have been generated. A comprehensive remediation plan that contains landfarming, soil vapor extraction, and in-situ bioremediation was recommended. The developed system could help petroleum industries to reduce costs at consulting, planning, design, and operation stages of their remediation practices. |
