Abstract:Biochar addition to soil is currently being considered as ameans to sequester carbon while simultaneously improvingsoil health, soil fertility and agronomic benefits. Thefocus of this special issue is on currentresearch on the effects of biochar application to soil forovercoming diverse soil constraints and recommendingfurther research relating to biochar application to soil. The biochar research has progressed considerably withimportant key findings on agronomic benefits, carbonsequestration, greenhouse gas emissions, soil acidity, soilfertility, soil health, soil salinity, {it etc.}, but moreresearch is required before definitive recommendations canbe made to end-users regarding the effects of biocharapplication across a range of soils, climates and landmanagement practices
Keywords:agronomic benefits   carbon sequestration   greenhouse gas emissions   pH   soil fertility   soil health   soil salinity
