Abstract: | Releases of hatchery-reared smolts of Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., in the Rivers Orkla, Gaula and Alta, Norway yielded large percentages of strays (194, 13.7 and 13.8% respectively), based on recaptures from anglers. Homing precision to the rivers of release was independent of the release site on the river. Distribution of recaptured adult salmon within the rivers was dependent on the release site; upstream releases yielded more upstream recaptures than did downstream releases. |
