Abstract: | The techniques used in Nephrops mesh selection studies are described and recent literature on the subject is reviewed. It would appear that Nephrops selection has a shallow ogive, giving a wide selection range (L75−25). The various factors affecting selection are discussed and the importance of studying whole trawl selection is emphasised. Various gear designs are described, and it is concluded that Nephrops fishing ideally requires a gear that steepens the selection ogive, releases undersized whitefish, and remains economically viable. |
