Abstract: | The development of board and pulp manufacture is discussed inthe light of the country's dependence on imports of timber andtimber products. The development of board and pulp projectsis traced up to the present time, and the individual requirementsare briefly examined. The effects of the country's forestryprogramme, of consumption trends in industry, and of trendsin the main exporting countries on the possible future courseof home development are discussed. The conclusion is reachedthat while expansion is likely in both board and pulp manufacture,pulp development may claim greater attention in spite of itsmore formidable problems. Emphasis is placed on the need forcareful planning in the development of the board and pulp industrie.s |
