Development Trend and New Advances in Technology of Wood-Based Panel Industry in USA

In this paper a relatively detailed discussion is made on the problems of supply and demand of wood based panels, prediction of future development, development of principal products, research trend and the latest technologica1 advances. The main lat-est technological advances are researches on methods of traditional adhesive modification, development of new formaldehyde adhesives, extraction of gluing material from renewable resources, bonding techniques of veneer with high water content, extruding and painting technology of foam phenolic resin, new technology of hot pressing by steam jetting, progress in utilizing the wood of mixed tree species and hard-to-bond tree species, and the exploitation of wood from man-made forests for manufacture of panels. The paper describes the basic state of wood based panel industry in USA, the development trend, output, and export trade of wood based panels, the predicted out-put at the end of this century, the way to resolve the contradiction between supply and demand, the measure to attain the objective of development, and the development trend and prospect till the end of this century.
