湿地是地球三大重要生态系统之一，但什么是湿地，湿地公约主要内容与作用是什么，则不为许多人所了解。1992年环境与发展大会后，湿地和湿地公约日益受到人们的关注。简明介绍了湿地的定义、湿地功能、湿地公约内容以及活动，如世界湿地日等。还介绍了我国履行公约的情况。

Wetland and Ramsar Convention

Wetland, as one of the major important eco systems on the earth, has attracted attention of the world. However what is the wetland? What is the Convention on Wetland? A few people can answer these questions precisely. Since 1992 when UNCED adopted Agenda 21, the international community including China has attached importance to wetlands. To meet the requirement of raising public awareness of wetlands the author gives a brief introduction on wetlands including definition on wetland, its functions and the Convention (history, contents and activities). Some information regarding implementation of the Convention in China is also provided.
