Synthesis and screening of a new group of fungicides: 1-(2-phenyl-1,3-dioxolan-2-ylmethyl)-1,2,4-triazoles

A series of substituted 1-(2-phenyl-1,3-dioxolan-2-ylmethyl)-1,2,4-triazoles has been prepared and evaluated in the glasshouse for fungicidal activity. Compounds with 2,4-dichloro substitution on the phenyl ring and with a lower alkyl side chain on dioxolane ring were found most promising for the control of powdery mildew gherkins and barley and for the control of bean rust. These compounds were systemically active and some are being developed commercially for various applications.
