Abstract:Calliptamus italicus is a major dominant grass pest in Xinjiang and overwinters in the soil as diapause eggs. Cold-resistant mechanism of C. italicus eggs was investigated by measuring the contents of key cold-resistant substances such as sugars, alcohols, fat, and amino acids through the developmental process of C. italicus eggs under natural conditions and analyzing the variation trends of these cold-resistant substances. The results showed that during the overwintering of locust eggs, there was no significant variation in fat content. When the temperature was low, trehalose, glycerin, sorbitol, and amino acids were accumulated in eggs during diapause period, indicating that they are the main cold resistant substances and contribute to enhance the cold resistance of C. italicus eggs. Glycogen, glucose, fructose, and inositol provided energy for the development of locust eggs as energy substances, and these substances were transformed into each other in locust eggs. The results provide a basis for further study on the adaptation mechanism of C. italicus.
