Abstract:In 2007-2009,aiming at the serious degradation status of the vegetation on the southern edge of Junggar Basin in Xinjiang and the requirements of species selection for protection forest,combined with the region's environmental characteristics and production practices the suitability of trees species in protection forest were evaluated.Firstly,Populus alba × P.bolleana,transgenic saline-alkali Poplar,North American poplar No.1,North American poplar No.2,the insect-resistant transgenic Poplar,Liaoyu Poplar,Juglans nigia,Fraxinus mandshurica,Quercus robur,Finland birch,Corylus heterophylla were chosen as tested trees using expert scoring method.Choosing ecological adaptability,ecological functions,economic indicators as evaluation indexes and ten evaluation factors,to construct suitability evaluation index system of trees species in protection forest on the southern edge of Junggar region.Based on the method of AHP,the index weights were determined.To eleven tree species of protection forest in the southern Junggar region,suitability evaluation were carried out by using exponential sum method.P.alba ×P.bolleana,F.mandshurica,Q.robur,J.nigia,C.heterophylla are chosen as five suitable fine species for the region's ecological protection forest construction.North American poplar No.1,No.2 and Liaoyu Poplar with natural good growth speed can be planted as a kind of test species or planted little as substitute species.
