ASH SOILS IN WESTERN SUDAN

The ash soils of the Jebel Marra region of Western Sudan are developed on a relatively recently deposited felspathic ash and do not contain allophane. Though they show some specific characteristics of ash soils elsewhere, many features are common to other soils of entirely different origin in the same region. Because of their immaturity, variation due to altitude and rainfall, which may differ considerably over short distances in the Jebel Marra, Massif, is minimal.
