| Abstract: | The sensitivity of isolated root cap cells of twenty-two corn inbreds to Hm-toxin produced by Sisolates of Helminthosporium maydis have been studied. The experimental results showed that death rate of root cap cells treated with Hm-toxin was highly correlated with the lesion size induced by H. maydis on corn seedling leaves. The coefficient of correlation was more than 0.77 in all the isolates tested. The results indicated that it was satisfactory to use the root cap cells in bioassay to evaluate the resistance of corn inbreds against H. maydis. This bioassay not only was quick, simple and exact but could screen resistant materials on a large scale in room. |
