The extensive integration of the city,architecture and greening is the inevitable development of urban form in future.The three-dimensional multidimensional green becomes an important way to expand the green space.From the roof garden concept and function,it is discussed the effects of the Eastern and Western culture on the roof garden production and developmental history,and also the standards and status of plant material selection.The form of roof garden,at home and abroad,is proposed from the main open to the semi-intensive and intensive transition.The selection of roof greening materials is located in the transition period from tne roughing to the cleaning.Taking the typical city as the representative,it is counted the general and regional plant list in North China,Jiangnan,Lingnan and the Southern Yangtze River Area.The results will promote the development of green buildings and cities.
