Franz Hermann Müschen worked from 1797 to 1847 as choirmaster, organist, and teacher in Belitz, a small town in the German region of Mecklenburg. His main work was to develop the Belitz fruit nursery, which was carried on by his youngest son Johann Georg Bogislav Müschen. Father and son published several leading papers on fruit growing in north Germany. The elder son Samuel Christian Heinrich Müschen became a well-known grower of dahlias and roses.
