Effects of Salt Stress on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Hybrid Rice Longliangyou Huazhan and Its Parents

Abstract:Using the hybrid rice combination Longliangyou Huazhan and its parental lines Longke 638 S and Huazhan as the materials,six NaCl concentration gradients(0.2%,0.4%,0.6%,0.8%,1.0% and 1.2%)at the germination stage and three NaCl concentration gradients(0.4%,0.8% and 1.2%)at the seedling stage were set to simulate salt stress conditions to study and analyze the effects of salt stress on seed germination and seedling growth of hybrid rice and its parents.The results showed that various indexes were affected by salt stress to some extent under all of the NaCl concentration gradients at the germination stage,and most of the indexes decreased with the increase of NaCl concentration gradients,and it was further found that 0.6% was the salt-tolerant threshold for Longliangyou Huazhan and its parents.Under 0.2%~0.6% of NaCl concentration gradients at the germination stage,the inhibition rate in germination rate,germination index,vigor index and plumule length were significantly different among three varieties,and the comprehensive evaluation by subordinative function values of the indexes showed that the salt tolerance of three varieties at the germination stage was Longliangyou Huazhan,Huazhan and Longke 638 S from strong to weak.Under the salt stress at the seedling stage,Longliangyou Huazhan had the greatest K^+/Na^+ ratio in the aboveground among three varieties,indicating that its salt tolerance was the strongest.It can be concluded from subordinative function values at the germination stage and the K^+/Na^+ ratio at the seedling stage that the salt tolerance shows a heterosis in rice for the hybrid Longliangyou Huazhan is more tolerant to salt stress than its parental lines.
