阅读在本质上具有交际功能 ,是提高语言能力的基础。在抓好精读的同时 ,必须重视泛读。阅读课的重要任务是扩大词汇和培养语感。精读课还要兼顾听、说、写、译能力的培养。本文就大学英语教学中的能力培养问题提出自己的看法

Reflections on the Teaching of College English

This paper discussed the question of development of language faculties in the course of college English teaching.Reading comprehension,with its communicative function in essence,is the basis of other language abilities.A college English teacher naturally exerts himself to conduct an intensive reading course in his English class,yet he should never forget to pay enough attention to extensive reading ,which is usually done out of class,due to the limited teaching hours.The authors hold that the main tasks for an English teacher in the reading courses are to enlarge the students' word hoard and cultivate their language sense.A successful English teacher should also make efforts to train his students in their capacity of listening,speaking,writing,and transtlating in and out of class.
