Seed yield from polluted stands of Pinus sylvestris L.

The number of seed scales, filled andempty seeds were evaluated for two populations growingin polluted environments in southern Poland and oneclean population growing in northeastern Poland. Thenumber of filled seeds ranged from 23 to 25 per conefrom both polluted and clean pine stands. Thevariation of investigated characters was higher amongyears than between polluted populations and the cleanone. This could be due to protection by the plant ofthe traits of generative propagation against poisonousimpact of industrial contaminants.
