Prospects of Introduction and Development of Mei in Canada

The writer has been in Canada for more than three years. He is now working at a large ornamental nursery in Vanconvor of British Columbia, specialized in propagation and cultivation of ornamental trees and shrubs. He is interested in introducing and exploiting Chinese traditional ornamental trees and shrubs as Prunus mume, Chimonanthus, tree-peonies, etc. Due to the winter-spring climate around Vancouvor is moist and not very cold, so he suggests to introduce Mei cultivars from China with enthusiasm. Only young plants in vitro and seeds of Mei cultivars can be imported to Canada due to quanrantine restrictions. The writer is anxious to get information on micro-propagation of Mei from China.
