PRESENT AND FUTURE ROLE OF GRASSLANDS IN ASIA

This paper summarizes and reviews the grasslands of Asia,their natural conditions,divisions,types,characteristics,utilizations,management systems and social-economic conditions for their development.Natural grassland is divi- ded into six types,i.e.tundra,steppe,savanna,desert,meadow and marsh;i.e.cold,temperate and warm grassland.Grassland farming is also divided into three types,i.e.traditional management,extensive management and simultane-ous management of agriculture,forestry and animal husbandry.The basic style is grazing on grassland.At present,as extensive farming is transformed intointensive farming,the closed self-suflieient economy is changing into a com-modify economy.Grassland will play a more important role in economic develop-ment,social improvement and ecological establishment.
