Abstract: | Abstract. Stock recruitment relationships were examined on 7 rivers. On all rivers, egg deposition, or some other index of spawning, explained 46–87% of the variation in recruitment. On Western Arm Brook, one spawning salmon produced nine, and any increases in egg deposition due to reduced harvests resulted in an eightfold increase in yield one generation later. No data indicate that maximum yield has been achieved on any Canadian river. |
