Application of Recreation Opportunity Spectrum (ROS) in Recreational Resource Management

The Recreation Opportunity Spectrum (ROS) is a concept which has been proved to be one of most useful methods in the resource management and wilderness recreation management.It supports proactive and constructive integration of both recreational experience and opportunity considerations with the ecological considerations necessary for sustainable natural resource management.In this paper,the authors summarized the basic concept of ROS,traced the process of the ROS development,and then focused on its application in recreational resource management abroad,taking its practice in resource planning and management of American and Japanese National Forests as case study.Finally,the authors outlooked the application prospect of ROS in Chinese recreational resource management.
