东海发现的贝氏喙鲸

本文首次报道了５０年代末，从舟山沿海捕获的１条贝氏喙鲸，并对其骨骼特征作了简要记述。

A BAIRD'S BEAKED WHALE FROM THE EAST CHINA SEA

A Baird's Beaked Whale,Berardius bairdii of Ziphiidae was collected in the fifties of the present century at coast of ZhouShan.Skeletal leugth of a Baird's Beaked whale attains 9.8 m(Except seventh thoracic vertebrae and twelfth caudal vertebrae were lost). There is no teeth on upper jaw.Two pairs of teeth,the front ones of massive size,are situated at the tip of a projecting lower jaw.Between the first and second pair of teeth with a great interval.Nostril round and broad.The shape like a cockscomb consisting of nosal and maxilla and frontal bone etc.Vertebral formula:C7+T10+L12+CaL8=47.Nasal division is partil to left side,Head shows the shape like an awl.Skeletal specimes of a Baird's Beaked whale was deposited in Zhe Jiang Museum of Natural History.
