Abstract: | Preventing the introduction of dangerous organisms into new countries and regions requires an international approach. The article reviews the most dangerous organisms for different continents, and describes in particular the procedures developed in Europe for assessing quarantine risks, through international cooperation within the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization. The activities of EPPO are reviewed, and also those of the ISHS Plant Protection Commission, especially in relation to fruit-tree viruses. The implementation of international cooperation within the European Community, and specifically in Denmark, is described. |
