Defects and Classification of Rattan Canes and Its Derivatives

This paper discusses the main defects, classification standard and industrial specification of rattan cane and its derivatives. The defects of rattan canes mainly include genie defect, environmental defect, biological detect and mechanical defect. The classification of rattan canes is carried out by stage, and it is basically in accord with the diameter, length, color, hardness, defect, internode length and diameter uniformity along the whole length of rattan cane. The industrial specification of rattan canes include the apparent characteristics as color, the physical mechanical properties as strength and bending tolerance, the machining performances as straightness degree and size, the coating capability and so on. The uniform defect terminology, trade name and standard specification are the foundation to develop good trade of rattan canes and cane products.
