Repellents gegen vorratsschädliche Insekten

The repellency of diethyltoluamide, dimethylphthalate and N,N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide was evaluated especially against adult insects and in some cases also against larvae of 13 compounds stored product insects species. The results revealed that these compound have a high and broad repellent effect on stored product insects. Diethyltoluamide and N,N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide were more efficient repellents than dimethylphthalate. Each species and various different developmental stages of each species revealed a different reaction against various compounds. The repellent efficiency was higher on adult insects than on larvae. The lasting effect of all the 3 compounds was strongly decreased within 3 to 4 weeks. The repellent effect of diethyltoluamide persisted longer on filterpaper than on different packaging foils.
